The most important thing people should be aware of is that the shock wave is slower than visuals, but surely comes; so seeing such a huge blast, everyone should know that they have to lie down immediately and open their mouth so their ear drums don't burst.
Someone posted a video shortly after this happened and said the best thing to do would be to get on your hands and knees, point your ass toward the explosion, open your mouth and relax. Something about how the shockwave would do less damage that way. I always wondered if that was true.
this is actually very interesting for me. the sudden change of a nice family moment to a huge tragedy. also the observation that we somehow start developing from a "ive experienced that" to a "did you see that video" era, where people not really make their own experience and start telling more stuff about what others experiences. even so far that people instantly start recording everything. I literally can't imagine the terror. I've had dreams about seeing mushroom clouds in the distance and feeling the panic of "omg it really just happened, after all these years of being told about nuclear war etc." Obviously, this wasn't on that scale but you gotta think the terror and uncertainty of what could come next (as you're with your children riding bikes nonetheless) must have been similar. I thank my lucky stars that I got blessed with my particular geographic position in life, and I empathize as much as I can with people less fortunate.

Odd that the sound of the second explosion is heard at the moment we see it, and the sound of the first one fractionally before (although the plume of smoke is partly obscured at first by the buildings). They're obviously some distance away. Assuming this footage is genuine (a big assumption these days), has the soundtrack been offset to make it line up with the visuals?
Robert Landsburg died while photographing the volcano eruption at Mt. St. Helens. He was aware enough to protect his camera while he met his fate from the pyroclastic flow. He was a few miles away. I've approximately geolocated the place where this family was at when the big explosion took place at about 33.9071, 35.5049 -- near the water and near the Beirut New Seaside Park and Cornish which, if I'm right, is about 1.3km from the blast so the family should have been OK. Scary though...
Don't mean to be a downer but the shockwave could travel much further than that for the amount of explosives involved in that critical detonation and it in itself is a significant killer.
@@Beanzz231 -- Yeah, the shockwave would likely travel much further than the distance to the family -- but the intensity of it would be low enough to be non lethal. At that distance the power of the shockwave would be low enough to be easily survivable. There would likely be windows broken at that distance, but the effect on people standing in the open would be unlikely to harm anyone unless they were in marginal health.
So why is there a sound at the exact moment of the explosion? Coincidental prior explosion perhaps? Seems perfectly timed though. Or maybe P-Waves from the ground compressing? They can travel at up to 8km/s. Weird.
There were multiple explosions because there were fireworks stored with the fertiliser - they were going off in huge explosions which caused a domino effect and the fertiliser started exploding
@@Vexarax Yeah I figured there were other explosions. It's just quite a coincidence that there are very few sounds of explosives going off throughout the clip, and then a loud one *just* at the moment the big one goes up. Interesting recommendation. Didn't know about this channel and certainly didn't know there were so many angles of this incident. Never seen this clip either...

I’ve stood in the mountains overlooking Beirut many times and watched the violence and explosions
They had to have been at least 5 miles away from the port and it still looks terrifying.
Incredible how many angles there are and how many people where filming at that moment.
Because they had a warning with the smaller pre explosion. So many people were already recording it.
Not incredible at all. The fire was raging for hours before that and there was a small explosion prior to this one so people kept recording
Seeing those them get closer and closer with their phones to record while knowing what was coming was so scary I hope they didn't get hurt
Pipe bomb moment
Poor Lebanon never can catch a break. Great people, delicious food and beautiful country with rich heritage
Location: Near Rocks (Beirut Central District)
Distance: 1360 Meters
When you see children, the video reaches a whole other level.
I've read here that they are ok.
Someone posted a video shortly after this happened and said the best thing to do would be to get on your hands and knees, point your ass toward the explosion, open your mouth and relax. Something about how the shockwave would do less damage that way. I always wondered if that was true.
You can hear the fireworks go off briefly around 0:25.
Thats a good dad right there. He sensed it before it happened.
this is actually very interesting for me. the sudden change of a nice family moment to a huge tragedy. also the observation that we somehow start developing from a "ive experienced that" to a "did you see that video" era, where people not really make their own experience and start telling more stuff about what others experiences. even so far that people instantly start recording everything. (im not talking about the actual guy filming but the 2 dudes showing up filming as soon as something happens)
I thought the white clouds is the explosion until I watch the end
As a parent i couldn't think of anything worse.. Hope your were all ok.
They were unless someone hit their head on the pavement from the shockwave. They were not as close as you think. they are on Beirut new Sea-Side Park and Cornish if you want to look the street up. its close to a mile away and those white buildings would have protected them from much of the remaining shockwave.
No sound delay? They must have been close.
Just like it was in COD MW 3, but then you already know what happened
It’s crazy watching the others start shuffling over to the sound, cellphones out, like mindless zombies
Everytime those kids see a bike, this will be in their minds. Wouldn't be at all surprised if the little one developed a form of PTSD with bicycles.
Can you share the original link with me please?

@@beirutexplosionangles30 i can't see it
This actually gave me the MW3 vibe where London got nuked with poison gas, that one mission where ur the dad recording ur family and suddenly stopped recording the moment the trucks exploded
Imagine the little girl on her bike getting hit by the pressure wave. This would slam grown buff man onto the ground but with her small weight and then on the bike, this is brutal. I hope she and her (presumably) brother got out relatively fine.
The people walking towards it with their phones like zombies.
today is the day that I learnt here is a entire channel of different pov of the explosion
Prayers to Beirut and its People 😢❤
Hope they are okay. That said it frustrates me seeing others moving towards the problem with their phones out. Instead of moving away securing theirs or others safety
They didn't know it was gonna happen, but you have a good point.
Gotta "do it for the 'gram!"
As a father he did the right thing to stop recording and take his kids to safety.
I thank my lucky stars that I got blessed with my particular geographic position in life, and I empathize as much as I can with people less fortunate.
ive had that dream too... Seeing devastation in the distance and calling my wife and kids... I would say Ill see you on the other side and I know we will find each other because I wont ever stop looking.
I thought I was the only one that had those dreams terrifying fr
I was there in beirut when it happened. It was traumatizing..
@@LiveFreeOrRIPnever had such dreams lol but like today, i woke up to this chilling dream where i was like on the rooftop of a building and i witnessed a dogfight, my country's helicopter came crashing down and the enemies were being chased by jets, scary af lol
Idk man nukes are kinda cool
What is the full climax man ? did panic set in & you ran. ran for your precious children ??
I found this video on Facebook. I didnt film this.
I’ve watched nearly every angle of this explosion, there are a lot of English speakers in Beirut.
Yea I’m Lebanese and I’m English educated. The three main languages in Lebanon are English, French and Arabic
Bro really made a whole channel off one event ☠️
How many kilometers was the Explosion away?
1.36km away
@@beirutexplosionangles30 OK, that Looks inpressive😱
I’ve seen so many of these videos, and I’m just as amazed how many of the people are speaking English.
Yes I’m Lebanese and I’m English educated
Beirut is a pretty international city
it was supposed to be a wholesome moment with the dad and kids biking together :(
totally frightening
Of course.
oh hey its that cicada guy again
Ja.
My heart just dropped from the first seconds of the video seeing the children there
This is how all the paranormal videos end.
Props to the camera man for sacrificing himself to give us this scene.
The amount of videos that came out of this disaster was actually crazy
Beirut looks so advanced. How can they let themselves be hostage of Hezbollah terrorist group
@tinav5650
The biggest terrorist group is the IDF is what you meant to say. Auto correct can be such a pain...
@@hyena131 The IDF doesn’t leave thousands of pounds of Iranian munitions in a warehouse in middle of a civilian area.

No, they simply engage in genocide. Thank you for your post.
At first thought they were far, but then realize they're so close... 😮
This is why you don't hang around and film shit when something's not right. You're supposed to get yourself and your kids the F out of there.

Robert Landsburg died while photographing the volcano eruption at Mt. St. Helens. He was aware enough to protect his camera while he met his fate from the pyroclastic flow. He was a few miles away. His body was found in the ash over two weeks later. The blast in Beirut was a horrible tragedy that could have been prevented.
Fun fact: A *Russian* ship's cargo of dangerous ammonium nitrate was stranded in Beirut port for years.
Since when
Yeah not true, the shipment was from a Moldovan ship called the MV Rhosus and its cargo was offloaded in 2013 and stored (unsafely) in a warehouse until the eventual explosion.
@@ProtonChicken LMGTFY: a shipment of 2,750 metric tons of ammonium nitrate arrived in Beirut on a Russian-owned vessel in 2013. The ship, named the MV Rhosus, was destined for Mozambique - but stopped in Beirut due to financial difficulties.
this is sick...
part 2?
Is there NO ONE capable of recording anything without shouting "O My God" every millisecond, and falling short of actually recording anything with a modicum of quality?
The kid had the best backdrop in cinema history with out cgi and Dad dropped the bag on his camera work 😂😂😂
So why is there a sound at the exact moment of the explosion? Coincidental prior explosion perhaps? Seems perfectly timed though.
Or maybe P-Waves from the ground compressing? They can travel at up to 8km/s. Weird.
There were multiple explosions because there were fireworks stored with the fertiliser - they were going off in huge explosions which caused a domino effect and the fertiliser started exploding
@@Vexarax Yeah I figured there were other explosions. It's just quite a coincidence that there are very few sounds of explosives going off throughout the clip, and then a loud one *just* at the moment the big one goes up.
EDIT: In fact, the sound starts at the **exact** moment of the initial flash of the explosion, literally down to the frame.
Probably still a coincidence, but quite something.
Interesting recommendation. Didn't know about this channel and certainly didn't know there were so many angles of this incident. Never seen this clip either...
How desensitized we have become... Something explodes and is obviously pretty big, so you grab the phone and start recording while walking towards whatever blew up.
