I worked at a plant that used ammonium nitrate. I had no idea it was this dangerous. But still, I’ve learned it takes a flame, AN and fuel to ignite. Where did the large amounts of fuel come from?
It wasn't a plant that blew up, it was a storage facility used by the government. I believe all the fertilizer they were storing was confiscated from a ship (or ships). They were already warned by people that they were putting too much of it in the same spot and that this type of scenario might happen. Government officials, like most in all countries, couldn't give 2 shits about it and so when a small fire broke out, everything fucking blew up.

I cant find anything to say it had been mixed into ANFO. Everyone just says the AN had not been stored properly. Maybe gas in the smoke or something. I dont know
I've approximately geolocated the place where this family was at when the big explosion took place at about 33.9071, 35.5049 -- near the water and near the Beirut New Seaside Park and Cornish which, if I'm right, is about 1.3km from the blast so the family should have been OK. Scary though...
Don't mean to be a downer but the shockwave could travel much further than that for the amount of explosives involved in that critical detonation and it in itself is a significant killer.
@@Beanzz231 -- Yeah, the shockwave would likely travel much further than the distance to the family -- but the intensity of it would be low enough to be non lethal. At that distance the power of the shockwave would be low enough to be easily survivable. There would likely be windows broken at that distance, but the effect on people standing in the open would be unlikely to harm anyone unless they were in marginal health.
Imagine the little girl on her bike getting hit by the pressure wave. This would slam grown buff man onto the ground but with her small weight and then on the bike, this is brutal. I hope she and her (presumably) brother got out relatively fine.
The most important thing people should be aware of is that the shock wave is slower than visuals, but surely comes; so seeing such a huge blast, everyone should know that they have to lie down immediately and open their mouth so their ear drums don't burst.
I literally can't imagine the terror. I've had dreams about seeing mushroom clouds in the distance and feeling the panic of "omg it really just happened, after all these years of being told about nuclear war etc." Obviously, this wasn't on that scale but you gotta think the terror and uncertainty of what could come next (as you're with your children riding bikes nonetheless) must have been similar. I thank my lucky stars that I got blessed with my particular geographic position in life, and I empathize as much as I can with people less fortunate.

Odd that the sound of the second explosion is heard at the moment we see it, and the sound of the first one fractionally before (although the plume of smoke is partly obscured at first by the buildings). I cant find anything to say it had been mixed into ANFO. Everyone just says the AN had not been stored properly. Maybe gas in the smoke or something. I dont know
They had to have been at least 5 miles away from the port and it still looks terrifying.
The two guys phone in the hand recording explosion who walk like robots towards the explosion, it's the scariest thing for me
Just like it was in COD MW 3, but then you already know what happened
You can hear the fireworks go off briefly around 0:25.
Reminds me of that one cutscene from call of duty when a family was just enjoying life until tragedy struck
What is the noise you hear right as it explodes? Is it the sound travelling through the floor?
Everytime those kids see a bike, this will be in their minds. Wouldn't be at all surprised if the little one developed a form of PTSD with bicycles.
The people walking towards it with their phones like zombies.
The different tones of OH MY shows what fear sounds like
ok first off, 0:56 that explosion came out of no where oml
second, THE “OH MY-“ GOT ME LAUGHING WAY TOO HARD 😭
My heart sank when I realized how close they were.
It’s crazy watching the others start shuffling over to the sound, cellphones out, like mindless zombies
The flash and distortion wave are so incredible to see.
This is how all the paranormal videos end.
Incredible how many angles there are and how many people where filming at that moment.
Because they had a warning with the smaller pre explosion. So many people were already recording it.
Not incredible at all. The fire was raging for hours before that and there was a small explosion prior to this one so people kept recording
The guy turned philippino when shit went BOOOM!
Looks so much like that scene from Modern Warfare with the kid playing with the pigeons and the explosion in the back
Famous last words: "OH MY-"
I hope the kids and you were all right, my friend.
I’m just baffled by the amount of people walking towards it with their phones like they just found a rare Pokémon.
I believe that the reason why he stopped recordi is that he had his finger over the "stop recording" button, and he jumped when he seen the explosion
Bro really made a whole channel off one event ☠️
Imagine the little girl on her bike getting hit by the pressure wave. This would slam grown buff man onto the ground but with her small weight and then on the bike, this is brutal. I hope she and her (presumably) brother got out relatively fine.
The most important thing people should be aware of is that the shock wave is slower than visuals, but surely comes; so seeing such a huge blast, everyone should know that they have to lie down immediately and open their mouth so their ear drums don't burst.
saw the little girl on the bike and thought this was gonna be a reenactment of that one mw3 campaign mission…
Man this is the closest I've seen.. definitely within blast kill radius
Seems like a few miles away, the shockwave will be immense. There's not much debris around them as well so I think they're fine.
thats actually pretty far away, thats atleast a few kilometers, they are not in the center of the city, majority of angles are WAY closer
There was a clip of people right on the dock of where the explosion was, which is a lot closer
@@bucky822 clearly thay are not very far, if you see how the fireball size. Other coments claim the distance is 1.3 km or 0.8 miles
@@earthdart5937 thats less than a mile buddy
I literally can't imagine the terror. I've had dreams about seeing mushroom clouds in the distance and feeling the panic of "omg it really just happened, after all these years of being told about nuclear war etc." Obviously, this wasn't on that scale but you gotta think the terror and uncertainty of what could come next (as you're with your children riding bikes nonetheless) must have been similar.
I thank my lucky stars that I got blessed with my particular geographic position in life, and I empathize as much as I can with people less fortunate.
ive had that dream too... Seeing devastation in the distance and calling my wife and kids... I would say Ill see you on the other side and I know we will find each other because I wont ever stop looking.
I thought I was the only one that had those dreams terrifying fr
I was there in beirut when it happened. It was traumatizing..
@@LiveFreeOrRIPnever had such dreams lol but like today, i woke up to this chilling dream where i was like on the rooftop of a building and i witnessed a dogfight, my country's helicopter came crashing down and the enemies were being chased by jets, scary af lol
Idk man nukes are kinda cool
Odd that the sound of the second explosion is heard at the moment we see it, and the sound of the first one fractionally before (although the plume of smoke is partly obscured at first by the buildings).
They're obviously some distance away. Assuming this footage is genuine (a big assumption these days), has the soundtrack been offset to make it line up with the visuals?
This is like that one episode from black mirror when everyone is recording with their phones
