Brilliant piece. From a wonderful generation of footballers not like today's spoilt brats. Men of integrity

When football was a people's sport. Imagine today's footballers talking like this when they're retired.

I love the story of Jack Charlton telling Billy Bremner to follow the forward who'd dropped out to the wing, not many people who could tell Billy Bremner where he should be!
And then John Charles starts speaking, and it's like Aristotle... What a great clip this is.

John Charles 150 goals in 298 appearances in his first spell at Leeds. And what is most incredible he played centre half for his first 5 seasons!
108 goals in 150 appearances for Juventus in notoriously defensive Serie A.

John Charles makes my all-time XI.
Stick him somewhere at the back. Or upfront! Didn't matter.

I always remember my dad told me he’sthe only player in the history of football to be world class in two positions. It tells you something when he was voted Juventus greatest ever foreign player ahead of Platini and Zidane.

Here's my Jack Charlton story. I'm a Leeds fan from the 60's . Listening to the local radio back then he was interviewed and the reporter asked him what do you thinks the secret, why Don Revie manages to get you all to give your all, non stop energy for the full 90 minutes, to which big Jack replied very seriously " I can't say for sure, but he makes all go to the toilet and do a proper sit down before every game". Classic Jack.

John Charles was an absolute tank....he'd mop the floor with any of these snowflakes today that have made the sport unviewable. Bremner as well - no comparison. These were proper players and great, dignified men who let their actions on and off the pitch do the talking....can't forget as well Big Jack obviously. Playing career aside which is in itself one of the great success stories - making that England team when it looked like his best days were far behind him, what he did for Irish football will be talked about for decades to come
