I love my Quick Jacks. I used them to remove the transmission on my 1967 Dodge Charger. All I had to do was remove one of the front tires to get the front of the case to have enough clearance. There are RUclips videos on how to modify them for easier rolling. Great episode as always.
When you remove a hood on this style of truck you just have to remove lh and rh cowl covers. The hinge bolt and nut is accessible. Remove spring bolt at hood plate and remove pivot bolt for hood. When you reinstall hood it is still lined up, as long that you reassemble the fenders in original place.
It's cool that regardless of the value of the parts being put to use, it's all still bolt-on, showing how far something could be taken without needing to invest in fab tooling or have the know-how for fab work.
When I remove a hood or another body panels I drill 1/8th holes near the mounting bolts Then use rivets or drill bits for alignment during reassemble to align the part The holes are invisible when the hood is closed or door or trunk or fender Works pissa and don't need extra help if you're alone

I was going to take a break today but watching this video got me itching to go back out and work on the car.. its hot, its humid, its outside and in the sun but I am still going to wrench for a couple hours at least. Currently working on pulling the stock exhaust to put a 3" turbo back, boost gauge, AEM Wideband, Boost controller, some smog deletes and replace a few bushing on my 87 Conquest.
Thanks Mike, at 71 it's too late for me but through you and Joe I can keep my dream alive........ kind of... it's interesting it's understandable, it's a good time and actually fun... Let the good times roll✌
Remembering when your neighbor was bummed out about the truck when he saw the truck outside, now the rolling chassis, good thing he didnt hear about the hammers sawall comment.😅
Dropped front subframe and exhaust, and replaced turbos and did a transmission swap to manual 6 speed on my '08 BMW 535xi using Quick Jacks. Easy clearance and very stable. Highly recommend if you don't have space for a full lift.
So, I still have my 92’ OBS with a 4.3 and manual, 23 years later. Funny, not so funny story, I had a bunch of my money saved up for my first car. Odd job growing up, saving, usual story… I made the dumb decision, one day after school, to go shot for shot with a bottle of gut rot, and I wound up in the hospital later that day. I woke up in a hospital bed with my father asking me if I wanted another drink, with a cigar in hand. Needless to say, parents had me pay that $4,500 hospital bill with my car money I had saved up for, for so long. The $800 W/T long bed was what I could afford after that dumbass endeavor. Still have it though. Replaced every brake line, replaced entire fuel system from tank up to rebuilding the TBI. Taught me a ton. Still have it this many years later. Still is our family’s workhorse. I can go turn the key right now. Always wanted to slam it since day one, and was giving more thought to it when your Ridetech video dropped. Serendipity? I’m also an artist aside from a wrench, and want to do a cool hand painted door piece. Showcase some skills and have a cool cruiser. I don’t need your low mile 4.3, I just wanted to share my personal OBS story. Figured you’d all get a kick out of it.
That would be sick with a cow Hood ? Help the motor run cooler. Think about it. , enjoying this project , we have two Obs , a 94 Silverado , Black regular cab , we going to do an LS with twin turbos , and the other one is a 454 SS , both lowered , they both have 4 inch NPD Hood , looks cool and runs cooler 👍👍👍👍
I have used a 1/8 drill bit to make panels fit back perfectly and it works perfectly every single time and it isn’t a huge eyesore by doing it this way.
Mike, I think you’re awesome! A friend of mine recently introduced me to motortrend tv…(I live under a rock lol). I binged all your shows. Love it! I especially enjoyed the monster truck episode! & I know you’re a mini truck guy… I learned to drive in my old mans ‘81 Toyota hilux 5sp. Still the most forgiving Gearbox I’ve ever driven to this day. You’re the man Mike!😎
All the gauges will work for the swap very easy to wire them up. 98 Camaro 3 pin temp sender, one wire goes to gauge, ls oil pressure sender cut sensor wire on ls harness and send it to the gauge wire, speedo output from ECM to the passenger side under dash wire in the truck coming from the DRAC module.
2010 entire cooling module for the 10,000 cfm fans and the correct ls rad ,and it will accept all of the newer gmt800 and gmt900 seats are bolt in swaps 21+ with a kit will fit too but if you are building it im sure it will be great even if it isn't dual buckets for all the married men who want momma to get a little closer 😂
Cant wait to see this awesome ride and hang with you and the Bling crew! I am sooooo looking forward to this. I cant tell ya how cool this is, how excited I am, and what this means to me. Thought I would NEVER get to the SEMA show and definitely didnt think I would ever get to drive a super car. VERY much appreciated! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Def. keep the stock hood.... NO COWL HOOD!!! This things gonna be killer... I just picked up a '98 Silverado W/T with a blown up 4.3 with 102k miles... Looks like yours but not in as good of condition... So i'm diggin' this build... :)

Finnegan for president 🎉
On hood refitment, drill holes thru the hinges into the hood to line it up again( stolen from hot rod magazine years ago). And screw the bolts back into the hood ( or what ever else you’re working on and don’t want to lose the bolts)
I’m glade you are going with a PDS blower, I was kinda bummed when I seen that intake and sandwich cooler on there thinking you were putting a centrifugal style supercharger on it. Not that centrifugal blowers aren’t cool, I just think PDS blowers cooler and make better noises without having to always listen to a bunch of ideal racket!
The 6L90 is what came in my 2013 chevy 2500hd with the 6.0l. Ive put 250k on my truck and it still shifts like it did when i got it. I could just imagine what a stage 4 built one will do! 👌💪🇺🇲
Maybe from Dakota digital you can find one for the gmc. And maybe the dude from YEAH BUDDY GARAGE hé has a sick obs chevy pick-up dually. And that one has a very nice oem looking gauge cluster.
I am doing the same thing you are doing to the same truck and actually the same color but a C-2500 and a SBC 350 that is turbocharged and 5-speed. The motor has billet main caps w/ balanced rotating assembly and big flow aluminum heads with smaller chambers. Run's all the factory computer and gauges so the gauges all work and the ECM is tunable via the EBL Flash II's USB port that is added to the factory computer!
Better for the hood fitment. Drill a couple small holes through the hinge into the hood and tap them or run a sheetmetal screw into them. It will realign perfectly. Self tappers work but they can be shitty and snap.
What did you do to the '55! I know you wanted to go faster but the straight axle was part of what makes the car iconic. Still a cool car but without the straight axle but . . . well it's just not the cool gasser it was.
I love the TBI in my old suburban. Simple system. Easy to fix. Very rarely do I ever have a problem. Usually it's the ignition module because GM. That's about it. I realize this truck had the first gen vortec, but still..
I really wonder how much actual work this fuggin guy really does, also always gotta love the whole (watch me buy all this sh!t to have put on this truck) 😂
Hay Finnegan! My gpa bought this same truck brand new in 96 well 97 really it was the only truck leftover on the lot. (Pops a frugal man). His truck now has over 225zxx Man if anyone deserved a sweet low mile motor it would be my pops! You don't need that ol 4.3 please 😢

I don't know what the codes say now. That drive train would be nice, but no money, anyway. I love your videos. Keep up the great work.
I have my uncle that has a 78 k20 that needs a motor and trans. I had a 77 k20 my dad gave to me when I was 19 that unfortunately I sold due to being an alcoholic and losing everything but my family. I watch all your videos and would be freaking awesome to say I have Finnagens engine and trans in my 78 k20 project. 😊
Foam block out of a couch cushion on the roof of the vehicle works great as a place to store the hood. The foam won’t slide and the thickness keeps the painted parts far away from one another.

It must be nice lol . I can not get away from starting with rust buckets lol
Joe, GOD bless you. I felt your pain crawling around the engine hoist under the truck from my recliner while watching this
I still can't get over that you found such a low mileage work truck in such exceptional like new condition! Loving the build!!
Glad to see the OBS back on the channel
Those obs trucks are a beauty. Kinda like a streamlined box body. Truck in great shape
When you remove a hood on this style of truck you just have to remove lh and rh cowl covers. The hinge bolt and nut is accessible. Remove spring bolt at hood plate and remove pivot bolt for hood. Pretty kewl so far. I ls swapped a lq4 into a 94 s10 SS. That was a tight fit used a kit that had several different manufacturers components.

To me, this is like a "Mini Muscle Truck" but with more expensive bits on it. 😁
This thing makes more power then all 3 muscle trucks combined
Lol , the positions you get in when trying to fix or remove a part..lolol
So much for the budget build
Also, a NNBS 07.5-13 Silverado radiator will work as well with little to no mods. It’ll have trans and engine cooler integral then.
Thanks for sharing.
Quick jacks are the best things to have if you dont have space for a real lift. I use them on my 03 Silverado and pulled the trans out many times. The only thing is you cant get the trans out on the trans jack cause the lift doesnt go high enough. Just slide it off
"Hurry! We gotta go to SEMA! Pretend it runs" 😂
As for. The power train. Currently only use i have for it would be reviving a cavalier racecar on rwd chassis, possibly a burnout car.
