  • I've had a good old time testing this mad lens. The Meike 3.5mm spherical fisheye lens really is a unique lens! I've been really impressed with the results, but at the same time this is a very niche lens. It's tons of fun!

      Oh i Love it. You've convinced me that I have to get one. I so very much appreciate you sharing your learning curve about how to hold the camera to not show your hands or body in the pic. You went thru it so I don't have to! I really love it! And again your such a nice young lady and it somehow comes thru so well on camera. Not many people have that gift. Ill forever be a fan of yours😇😇😇

    Thanks for a great post. I was very fun to watch. I have had the Samyang 7.5mm rectilinear fisheye for a while now and even with that I find it tricky not to get my fingers and toes in the shot. I have taken to using my Ultrapod mini tripod or a selfie stick as a handle and either the self timer or a remote to trigger the shutter. Or just reaching one finger out to press the shutter button while it is on the handle can work too. Perhaps the circular fisheye doesn't do this, but I find with my fisheye a slightly crooked horizon looks much worse than on a longer lens so I always use a hotshoe mount bubble level to keep things straight. With that spherical front element sticking out you are more likely to get lens flare so I always use the hood that came with it but perhaps the circular 3.5mm can't use one at all. I really like shooting photos with it through something like an archway or the branches of a tree that can act as a frame for the subjects in the background.

  •  3 года назад +1

    I always wanted a circular fish-eye, so I'm glad that I've found out about this one recently, and it's a good quality lens for a decent price too. I have the GX80, so the grip won't be a problem. A few years ago when I got my camera, I guess I looked at the Meike 6.5 f2, but I didn't want it because contrary to the this newer 3.5mm version, it crops the top and bottom of the image circle. (This newer one is only for m4/3, and the other one was designed for multiple mounts.)
    Thanks for the coupon code too! It was still working at the moment, plus their shop even runs a sale right now, so I was able to get it for a total of $119.99!

    Have it! Great lens for photos in caverns where light is liw and space is wide. Alos makes great snow globe winter scene!s and garden globes. The lens also captures a decent cropped wide angle lens. I set my camera to Extended Teleconverter and shoot jpg/raw to get a 15 mm equivalent jpg and 7mm raw. My solution to the lens barrel and fingers in the picture is a circle crop. Really enjoying your posts!!!

    A 7.5mm Bower offers less distortion, and a square frame without fingers getting in the frame! I use it from time to time, but really challenges the Creative Endeavor like most Fisheye Lenses... They used to be a Big Novelty back in the Film Days, and some were, and still are quite expensive!

    I'm looking for lenses for a VR rig. I have one important question.
    When using the "4K Photo" mode on Panasonic cameras in 1:1 aspect ratio does the lens still produce a full circullar fisheye image or is it chopped (if yes by how much) on the top and bottom?
    My GX80 crops in video mode (and 4K photo mode) by 1,11x. I'd like to know if I'm "safe".
    Ty in advance and have a nice day!

    The old Nikon 6mm f/2.8 fisheye showed up on Ebay for a measly £30,000 3 years ago, it’s kind of amazing that a lens with the same extreme field of view and decent quality shows up for less than 200 pounds/dollars/euros. I already own the only slightly less extreme Meike 6.5 mm for APS-C mirrorless (190 degree field of view), I think I’ll skip this one for my Olympus cameras.
    Thanks for the review.

    I had this lens before watching your video. How would you use Lightroom to make a rectangular instead of circular image?

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  4 года назад

      This particular fisheye lens I think is much too wide to convert back to a square/rectangular image. You can straighten things somewhat using the Distortion tab in Lens correction in Lightroom, but you’d have to crop in a lot. Much easier for a 7/8mm fisheye

      Very very very similar. Photography you wouldn’t see much of a difference at all. The gh5 has a few more specialist video features but they’re very similar in terms of quality imo! I’d be very happy with either
