- We tested two Harlys side by side with two different exhaust coatings to see if ONE. It makes more power. TWO if it helps keep your legs cooler. We did raw stainless as our control and Zybar vs Cerikote to find out which ones keeps the heat in the pipes better.
Speaking from experience building a lot of drag cars, ceramic coated headers are a must. They keep all that heat away from the engine, and increase exhaust velocity and efficiency by increasing the temperature inside of the exhaust pipe.
You might wonder how the exhaust temperature does anything for velocity, and why exhaust velocity does anything for power? To keep this simple, hot air expands, that builds more pressure in the exhaust, that peessure wants to go somewhere - in this case, out the tail pipe, thus increasing exhaust velocity. Exhaust velocity being faster is good because it helps pull exhaust gases out of and away from the combustion chamber, which allows more, cooler fresh air and fuel to fill the combustion chamber, which makes a bigger bang, and more power.
There is one significant benefit of ceramic coating for a bike that cannot be denied, even if a person thinks ceramic coating does nothing for power -- it keeps you way cooler. You won't feel any heat coming off the pipes, cooking your leg with a good ceramic coating while idling at a traffic light.
