Bypass Seat Belt Buckle Sensor with a Magnet - BMW or most seat belt buckles

  • I thought it was just another stupid BMW thing, but it turns out most seat belt buckles use a hall effect sensor to detect when a buckle is fastened. A magnet can be used to fool that sensor. I did this on a a BMW X3 (E83) to turn off the seat belt alert, but I'm sure it works with most other hall effect buckles.

    Blame zee Germans. I recall my 1976 BMW had a giant Fasten Seat Belt sign...a dedicated lighting feature that had long been deprecated with the e30 replacement seats.. Never saw how it worked in an original 76... This car was stepped and and hotrodded by the race guys before me. 44 dcoe mikuni carbs, motor, header (fuel pump, crane cams msd and kind of hi 6 ignition coil made it run almost like fuel injection. Very simple. No working seat belt sign
