I remember watching this in my history class as the only African American who sat up and was so proud of this movie because it was spoken in real Zulu language and the people representing were real Zulus who knew their history. This is part black history period. Because we were always told as African Americans we come from a savage culture when in actuality we come from a beautiful continent full of beautiful languages and culture spoken by black people ❤❤❤❤
This made me cry our story has been neglected for a long time. Also, I’m a descendant of Dingiswayo( AKA Mawewe). The fact that he is a Mthethwa/ Sithole in real life too just thrusted me into King Kong mode! What a character. What an actor! He represented us ( amathole) very well. Even his dad did🔥🔥🔥. All in all I love this production
this version of shaka is much better than the previous one... as the previous one was based on a white mans version of shaka... truth be told most Zulu historians find it deeply insulting...
Season 2 is still airing. Maybe it'll be out late this year, or maybe next year it's not certain yet. So now there is another one currently, it's called Queen Mojaji.
I know I’m lat but its about time we see something like this again. The last Shaka Zulu movie was in 1986. Henry Cele (RIP) will be hard to top as King Shaka but Im still hyped to see this new one.
Zulu warriors really tried.. fighting with spears in a gun fight for years.... till today some areas in kzn have not been developed not because of neglect but they just couldn't infiltrate them, hence the zulu culture is still practiced as raw as it was during Shaka's reign.
And a lot of people say Zulu's are stubborn.. we are not, we're a proudful group. We understand the role he played during colonization which is why youll hardly find american descendants of slavery from the south (when you do my DNA) or anywhere within the Nguni people. Many years after the wars when Shaka died instead of capturing slaves, white people developed a system called apartheid basically you do you we do we but we will do it with your resources typa thing and etc etc however that story ended up. Instead, slaves were brought to south africa which explains the diverse group of people you find here.Had Shaka's brothers not killed him, i don't think southern part of Africa would be what we know now.
I think you need to read more history no offence but the Zulu had been trading with the Beors for decades and had a big stockpile of guns by the time the war with the British came along this is confirmed by King Cetshwayo even in Skaka's time they had firearms the Problem for the Zulu was they were not very good shots and had no training.
Literally one of the best productions I have ever seen, to say it’s the best production in South Africa would be undermining it, it’s literally one of the best in the world, and if it does not get accolades I will be so disappointed. I am Zulu and I have never heard my language being spoken so beautifully… I looked forward to Sunday evenings, I almost wish it would just continue.
Whoah you guys taught me something, its one thing going into war knowing that you can lose but its ANOTHER going in with the fight to win. It gives a different kind of purpose.😮
You guys should watch this....shaka ilembe. It tells the history of a young boy who was cast out to become a great zulu king. Against all odds a king to his people. Proudly south african
Damn... Now I'm gonna rewatch the Old "Shaka Zulu" and "Shaka Ilembe" once again. The old Shaka is my favourite though, it actually depicted Shakas influence/power more realistically. Shaka Ilembe kinda watered down his character and actual journey.
I am a Zulu man whose ancestors were once called AmaNdwandwe rulled by King Zidwe ka Langa. Up to today our Zulu dialect is different from the south western ones.
I'm a direct descendant of the Ndwandwes. My lineage is birthed by King Zwide. The Ndwandwes perfected the IsiZulu language. Although it wasn't called "IsiZulu" back then until they were united under Zulu. I believe that the South Westerns, including the Xhosas, kept their language dilect because they were not conquered. But the Xhosas are all one group with the Zulu and the Ndwandwes: Nguni.
@@smangahmanqele8846 That's true considering the abakwa Ndwandwe had large numbers hence more influence. There still also remain a dialect unique to the Northern KZN folks.
African culture is like that. If you are a princess or a prince you do not just marry anyone and it's not only Zulus who do that, its accross. You have to marry someone who is from the royal family which means that you do not even fall in love or choose a partner yourself . They choose one for you. Sometimes you can even marry within the family by your distant cousin and they say it's because they want to preserve the crown and keep it in the family. I can't wait to watch Shaka iLembe.
In the Zulu culture, as a man, you can marry a commoner, however her children will never inherit the throne. So you have to marry a 2nd wife from royalty who will bear the heir.
@@zuluuyasabeka9303 Ohk Zulu ngiyabona. In my culture you are not allowed to and if you do it by force, your children will also be commoners and they will never inherit the throne. Thanks for this.

Don't worry. We are pushing hard for this production to go international and reach our brothers and sisters all over the world, including the US. The Zulu King and chiefs were the only people in the human history leading the war from the frontline but rated number 50 or so among the best leaders who ever led the wars. I don't know how they came up with this...
still to this day, the fact that they would go to war against people that used g*ns and they came there with nothing but spears and would win... blows my mind
Shaka has been misrepresented so many times. His name wasn't Shaka. He wasn't dark his name was Sgidi Ka Senzakhona. He was mid complexion but. This version of him is the one told by the English. But I get it it's entertainment. I hope his real story will be told one day. Without pressure to be entertainment.
Shaka committed genocide not only on other tribes but his own people its estimated over 500,000 died and that's a low estimate in his wars and conquests he would be know as a war criminal in todays terms but hey some people just don't learn the truth they make up their own history to suit there agenda , Don't get me wrong he deserves his place in history but should he be celebrated and admired as a person I don't think so.
This is the best version of Shaka Zulu and the actors are one of our best actors of SA , thanks guys for showing this version.
