So if you are on medicine to control your hypertension numbers would that allow a rating of 10% since if you weren't on the medicine you would be rated due to the uncontrolled blood pressure numbers?
... before my desert vacation in 1991 I was always low BP , after returning I was diagnosed high BP in 1994 and have been mostly unsuccessfully treated for the last 30 years and this is the first time I've heard that it could be service related .... imagine that ...
I have just been approved for cognitive impairment secondary to service connected hypertension. I not only had medical research but MRI's of my brain showing stroke, white matter damage and brain shrinkage. All associated with long term hypertension and cognitive impairment. Hypertension can cause severe damage to your blood vessels in your heart and in your brain. My VA doctor wrote me a nexus statement and the C&P doctor agreed.
I didn’t know about submitting my va claims till after my BP fell below the thresholds. But when I went into the ER in 2022 my BP was 257/148 I have plenty of evidence,,, it’s been almost 2 yrs now. My BP is 170’s /80’s , my 8 medications are helping keep my BP down and I’m taking jardiance a diabetes pill. But now I’m having frequent urination during the day and night upwards of 6 times a night, and leakage,,,, going in at end of Oct to see a VSO. Don’t know how much he will help. I’m rated 0 % hypertension when I went in March my BP was consistent at over 180/85’s. But that lower number wasn’t over 100 any longer.
I filed a claim for service related hypertension in April of 2022 (30 months ago). There was clear evidence of HBP on my discharge physical. The claim was denied for lack of service related connection. I appealed and the judge ruled in my favor last month. I just went through my C&P exam. Since I'm on meds, they only needed three readings on one day. Two from the left arm, and on from the right. If you're not on meds, they require three readings over three days. My readings were: Left#1 164/87, Left #2 160/93, and Right 178/121. I know those are way too high, and I immediately called my private doctor to get my meds adjusted. Now I'm just waiting to see how the VA will rate my claim. In addition, I also claimed coronary artery disease secondary to the hypertension. The judge ruled in my favor on that one too. I'm just waiting for my C&P exam next week.
I have hypertension, VA sends me a care package of pills every 90 days. I was diagnosed while on Active Duty, was given service connection for it and oh yeah 0% rating. This video is good but how is VA getting away with calling hypertension an almost heart attack blood pressure readings?

Many of us have knee problems from falling to our knees during boot camp and my question is how do we file for our knees when we never complained about them but now torn meniscus’s are very evident.

I wonder why memory issues was not mentioned. My doctor said that my hypertension most likely is a factor in my Mild Cognitive Impairment. Have you ever been successful in getting memory issues approved secondary to hypertension?
@@shepatown I was just approved for cognitive impairment secondary to service connected hypertension. I think statin drugs are used for high cholesterol, not hypertension. The long term hypertension has damaged the blood vessels in my brain and it shows up on MRI's. It's also done a lot of damage to my heart and I recently had my first heart attack. Take your blood pressure pills my friend.
These numbers your referring to, are they prior to taking medication or after medication. I currently have hypertension but while serving I had been diagnosed with heart palpitations I don’t know if these are related conditions to file a claim. Thank you
Can you answer this. My pressure is 118/78. As you can see it's not high enough, but I am on blood pressure medication to keep it low. What can we do to get qualified

Im on a few different BP meds. So when you go in for your C&P exam and your BP is at good number. Does the VA take in account that is because of the meds?
They’ll care about your current reading. I have really high BP. Cause me to have an aortic dissection, strokes and an actual coma 2 years ago. Been on BP meds ever since. They didn’t care about the over 6,000 pages of medical documentation stating high bp caused these issues and that for multiple readings my bp was in the range of 220-240/110-130. They didn’t care because they said my hypertension is now ‘controlled’. So I’m SC for the hypertension but it’s rated at 0% even being on four meds for they hypertension alone. Two of the meds I have to take twice a day.
VA contacted me to apply for hypertension and also because of ED. They contacted me! They quickly had me seen by a doctor (foreign female), and my BP was checked a couple hours after I had taken my BP meds, which I had taken for over 30 plus years. The BP check was still a bit high but acceptable. I have been diagnosed with ED since 2002. I was okay for Hypertension but zero compensation. I was denied for ED. I am already 100%. 90% plus 10% TDIU. I filed TDIU in 2007, and when I was approved 11 years later, they only went back one year on TDIU. It's not unusual to be screwed by the VA, but what irritates me is...they contacted me knowing the problems have existed.
You first need service connection to the primary disability, then you can file supplemental claims for things that your primary causes. Don't file them at the same time like I did, the VA gave me 0% for Hypothyroid because it was presumed from Agent Orange exposure but ignored my High Cholesterol (Hyperlipidemia) filed at the same time. Remember, for a disability to have a higher rating the VA only looks at how it makes your condition worse and makes it so you can't function to some degree. Having a disability is only the first step.
I have high blood pressure due to back pain, left knee pain, and neck pain could my in service connection of the left knee cause my high blood pressure?
you can have your own log book of date time and readings, bring that on your next appointment and show your log book to your Doc. they gave me a page for so at the nurse station, but you can make your own, they just want to see the readings and take notes for you records
I've suffered from PTSD and sleep apnea since on active duty, 87-91. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2001 and rated for it by the VA in 2009. I was diagnosed and rated for PTSD by the VA in 2014. In 2004 my numbers were through the roof for hypertension and I was immediately put on high blood pressure medication from my PCP. Now its controlled by medication. Since my 2004 medical records have been destroyed by my provider because of either their policy or some sort of law about length of records and because hypertension is a secondary condition to sleep apnea and PTSD, could I qualify for service connection for hypertension through nexus even though my hypertension is now controlled by medication?
Can you keep the hypertension rating, even though your bp meds have lowered it below the threshold? In other words, does the VA now see you as no longer having Hypertension since your medication has it under control???
Yes I would like to know too. I am currently taking high blood pressure medications how do I prove my rating if it is now being controlled by medicines?
@@mommymarine1756 we prob wont get an answer from this law firm, which tells me they dont know, either. The fact the VA is deviating from established medical doctrine on what hypertension is should be a cause for legal challenges in the courts.
