My husband's aunt, who exuded love and confidence and enthusiasm for life once told me that when people mistreat you it is the same as them dropping their garbage, and for goodness sake, don't pick it up!! That has always stuck with me because sadly, when you least expect it, someone disappoints us and hurts us deeply. When you think of it as their garbage, it is much easier.

Thank you, Nikol, I really needed that today. My best friend from brownie scouts of 60 years ago just dropped her garbage in my lap a couple of weeks ago. Gosh, it hurts. It was intended to. I can be bitter or I can be better. I choose better. It starts with a great bubble bath and a shopping trip for our 50th HS reunion next summer... and many thanks to Ms. Swift as well. My mother had absolutely nothing to teach me about makeup. She bought - but didn't actually use - lots of Avon because she liked having the company, someone to drink coffee with while she ran another load of laundry. Poor women - Mom with three of us in less than four years, and the Avon lady who sold makeup so she could get away from her own kids! Hey, it was the Sixties!

My mother always, to this day, has always told me how smart and wonderful I am and that I can do whatever it is my heart desires. I’m in my fifties and I love that she still always builds me up. She’s my mom! I wish that every kid could know this feeling. I think she knows there’s plenty of criticism that will come our way in life. That’s not her job. That’s the love of a mother.

Whenever I am out, I try to give one sincere compliment to a person I deal with or pass by. Smiles are free to share. Holding a door for the person behind you gives you a 5 second rest to admire the world around you. Stopping to let someone cross in front of me gives me 5 more seconds of AC or Heat (both lacking in my house during various times of the year). Just being kind is enough. Keep sharing your light, Nikol, it is needed. And for all you beautiful ladies out there, when you receive a compliment, smile, say thank you and accept the gift you have just been given. I truly dislike commenting negatively or positively on someone’s physical appearance. Mostly, it’s because I have no idea whether the thing I think is beautiful is something making them feel insecure. You are absolutely stunning! I’m older than you, but you completely inspired me to go natural with my gray. I had to fight my own mother in the decision. She said SHE wasn’t ready for a gray haired daughter. I showed her one of your videos and told her YOU are my goals!
You see, I have a terminal illness. I simply do not have the energy for all the hair work. My hair was to my waist. I shaved it off completely and let it grow back however it wanted. To my surprise, the lovely salt and pepper color came with natural curls. It’s loose enough to wear blown out straight, but tight enough to make loose coils.
Two statements changed my life, and I hope they can help others. 1. Other peoples opinions of me are none of my damn business. 2. How others see us says more about them than it does about us.
My mother can find something wrong with everyone she meets. My mother-in-law and I are more alike in our world view. We see something beautiful in everyone we meet. We both follow you.

@Boops God bless you. I've been chronically ill for 20+ years and bedridden for 10. My hair is really long because I only leave the house to go to the Doctor. Washing my hair is so absolutely exhausting that I'm embarrassed to say how long it's been since I've washed it. In fact I honestly don't even know. I've been seriously thinking about shaving my head. Like you said "Who has time for hair?". Maybe buy a couple wigs?
For you to have to fight your Mom on such a trivial (in the scheme of things. I know hair is a Big deal) thing in your situation breaks my heart. As a Mom myself, I'm trying to give her the benifit of the doubt and say it's fear coming out in a horrible way.

@@crisnemitz1606 Thank you so much for sharing your story. At most, I wash my hair every 7-10 days. It’s naturally dry and doesn’t really need it. If I knew what town you live in, I’d send someone over. If you have insurance, they can send someone to do it. If not, you may be able to find someone. Honestly, prior to the 20th century, people only washed their hair once a year. They used corn starch and other powders to absorb excess oils. Hair doesn’t need nearly as much washing as we’ve grown accustomed. Rosemary oil naturally cleans the scalp while promoting hair growth (at a rate better than minoxidil). Keeping hair in twists or braids prevents it from becoming overly tangled. There are numerous protective styles and caps and scarves used for centuries. This idea of daily hair washing is nonsense.

Has very fine hair which she inherited both from me except she has some curl that I’ve never had. She has just quit coloring it and just lets it go and honestly is longer and in the best condition I’ve ever seen it. The most powerful message ever to make its way into my brain, “Other people’s opinions of me are none of my damn business!” The second most important thing I learned in life is, “if someone dislikes me, it says more about THEM than it does about ME!” Generally speaking, it’s when I have an insecurity matching their insecurities. It’s really triggering to meet someone who mirrors your own insecurities.
Now, when faced with those people. If I know they’re important in my life, I embrace them. Since I am now aware of what stands between us, I say the things to them I’d like to hear. If it’s just some random person I’ve never met and they attack me, I do my best to not react, or be an ass. They’re coming from a different place I can’t fix for them.
Try to remember, some people are in a different stage of their life, their knowledge, their maturity. I don’t always succeed, but I try to remember children fall down a lot before they learn to walk. Sometimes, it even looks like they’re running. Then, you see they’re actually off balance and trying not to fall down, as they inevitably do. On some days, I’m the idiot who doesn’t realize she’s about to fall down.
We all have our own path and it plays out in its own time. We all start at the same place, naked and afraid. We all end up naked and alone on a cold slab. It’s all those different paths and different choices along the way that make us so unique and precious. It’s not always pretty. It’s rarely easy. We spend a lot of time amused or amazed we’ve survived at all.

@@angieparton6434 one thing I LOVE to do with my natural hair is a shine boost. They’re different names from different companies, but they all generally do the same thing. For example, Sebastian hair line has a product that has been around forever. It’s called Celophanes. Every line has these boosters. If you have any yellowing from heat or environment, you can add a toner to the product. I love these under every brand! I steer from peroxide, but you could go up to 6-10 volume if you really need to lift out heat/environmental damage. It’s not damaging. It coats the strands adding thickness and body. These toners and clear additives even add a layer of conditioning protection.

I was so inspired by you about 3 years ago when I turned 50 as I went about growing out my gray hair. Any new hair that has regrown between treatments is snow white and at this stage, I feel so thankful that I even have hair. I have been shocked at how many people have felt free to comment on my hair colour. Yes, people can be so hurtful and insensitive to what others are going through. You are beautiful inside and out and may you take comfort in knowing that there are people that appreciate and value what you put out into the world. Sending you love from Australia.😘😘

You are absolutely stunning , but most importantly your instructive videos illustrate how kind, caring, and thoughtful you are to share products in various price ranges, for all ages, and skin types. The fact that you try them all on yourself and give a honest review helps me decide exactly what I need. I am 67 yrs. old and thoroughly enjoy your friendly, upbeat, truthful, supportive approach to trying new techniques and products. My own mother was totally gray by 40, it was along with her lovely skin, an asset to her character. Thank you for openly sharing your time, attention, and expertise, you are a joy to listen to and watch !

I am loving letting my natural gray turn my hair a magical glimmer, thanks to you! Right now it is a highlight, but I love watching the progression. My younger sister is totally her shade of gray, and looks fabulous. Please listen to our thanks and compliments when some nasty, nosy person tries to inflict you with her need to make others feel badly about themselves. She must feel that way about herself! Poor thing! I appreciate all you do for me and other women. You are a model after all!

Just so you know how much you do help others. I'm 58 and have facial scaring from clef palate surgery. The last of the correction surgery took place at 19 when my skin was still firm. As I age these scars are more apparent but now I own it. However when people look at me and obviously zone in on that area, it brings back to mind all of the obstacles I thought I got past. Your attitude is so positive and I draw from your positive approach. Thank you for being so open!!!

And thank you for showing us the Taylor Swift’s lyrics that help us to move past someone’s negativity. I think it is hurtful what that woman said like she ambushed you .I would have been shocked some stranger coming up to me like that, she was so rude. I think you have an elegant wholesome beauty! I had my daughter late in life, who is in high school. She is beautiful and classy yet still has kids make random and mean comments. The advice I give her is this: Just because someone says something about doesn’t mean it’s true and when someone says something bad about another person they’re talking about themselves. I’m 62 and because of you have been inspired to have silver highlights put on my hair. You are a beautiful person and I personally am so lucky to have found your channel. Stay true to yourself because you are beautiful as you are. ❤

I love your channel and You are wearing my favorite color. Don’t let that women bother you, she obviously has issues herself. One of the comments that I do wholeheartedly believe is “if you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all”. Love that quote. I’m 74 years young and love watching you teach all of us ladies how to make themselves better as we age gracefully.

Nikol, I am a very young 75. I can’t claim responsibility for my not looking my age. I just do. However I started going gray in high school with a strip of white hair and of course battled it for years. About 10 years ago I had an episode of cancer and after two years of being sick when my hair grew back in I decided to let it go gray. It is white… I got a lot of aren’t you going to color your hair again. Nope…Nope..Nope… It is hair…. It is important but it is not me. It is part of me. So even years later, if I have a weak moment when someone says “you would look so young if you went back to blond hair”I think of you. You inspired me to stay true to myself. You are inspiring so many women.
