Ok.....this is my favorite cassette cult episode!!!! Fuckin awesome!!! Been a huge fuckin fan of Cirith Ungol since the mid 80s. Thank you for this incredible episode!!! Can't wait to get my hands on my Forever Black bundle. Your taste in music is fuckin fantastic!!
This is a true deep dive. We love it too.
Totally seriously, Sarah should have her own 'slot/channel' supported by Banger TV. She totally 'gets it' and from this old fekker who grew up with 80s thrash, talks to my soul.
Metal love from Thailand!
Metal love from Canada!
Cirith Ungol have such a special place in my heart. Listening to these guys in my first car alongside Rush and Uriah Heep in my last year of highschool, really awesome times
Sarah and her views about music are such a sight for these hard times. She is amazing in all possible ways!
More banger tv!
More Sarah!
MORE IS MORE! Stay tuned and thanks so much for sticking with us!
Just came here to say "Thank you for this video!" because I've just found two new favorite bands because of this video! Cirith Ungol and Satan! Sooo awesome! Bought both of their entire discographies after seeing this video and listening to their stuff!
ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY CIRITH UNGOL!!!!! Never thought this would come full circle again. Got my vinyl version of Forever Black in the mail today.
Great episode and the new Cirith Ungol album is indeed phenomenal.
This is so amazing. I remember reading an interview with Rob Garvin in Steel Conjuring mag by Manos Koufakis it was heartbreaking to read. So glad they are getting the respect they have always deserved
Wow. Cirith Ungol. I haven't heard them like since the early 80's
The dust on that cassette player really triggered my OCD :))
Hahahaha
I grew up in Ojai which is close to Ventura, so I saw a few local Cirith Ungol shows as a teenager. Then my best friend's cousin Jim Barraza joined the band - his debut was the Paradise Lost album. We jammed a few times when I was 16 - he would show me Randy Rhoads licks (his favorite guitarist) and I would show him Metallica and Slayer riffs (this was in 1986 - he was more into traditional metal and I was a hardcore thrash metal kid) Also, Jarvis Leatherby's real name is Jeff Hershey - he was in a pop punk band in Ventura before he decided to play metal.
The new album is pretty damn good. I wasn't really a fan before that even though they were from my area - Tim's vocals were always too screechy for me, like chalk on a blackboard. But I actually like his voice now - it's mellowed over the years. I talk to Jim on Facebook occasionally - great to see that they got back together and are kicking ass 🤘
Great review. The inclusion of band member insight made it even more so.
GREAT JOB SARAH🤘 Need more reviews with you! You definitely know your stuff when it comes this type of music! Intelligent, informative & just an all around great episode. THANK YOU
Thanks... I had never heard of them before this episode. That's why I love this series.
I discovered cirith ungol while watching … Richard Pryor live from the sunset strip.
I grew up in Los Angeles so it’s even more interesting to see the vibe and talent in that area at that time.
Van Halen was playing down the strip where David letterman was just a stand up.
Cirith ungol was there.
Saw these guys live a few years ago and they're still as killer as ever. Excited to jam the new album
Sarah talking about proto doom is my new kink
I bought King of the Dead coz of the LP cover as I often did in the 80s. Most of the time, as with this one, the music was amazing and led to a lifelong love
FROST & FIRE!
HAIL Cirith Ungol
Chaos rising is an immense track. It just grabs you
nice review
Is it just me or does the opening of Master of the Pit sound a lot like the opening of Verbal Abuse's I Don't Need It both of which were recorded at right about the same time?
Great review this week keep it up 🤟🤘
Great band. Love the art work. How about reviewing OZ?
I got super excited when I downloaded their new one on Spotify last night
Of course I'll pronounce their name however they prefer, but "Not (K)Cirith Ungol a la Lord of the Rings" is an odd way to put it since Lord of the Rings is where it comes from.
That pronunciation comes from the movies though, as I don't recall any indication from the books. Band predates the movies, curious as to Tolkien's intent?
Tolkien wrote a lot of notes and appendices on languages and words in his books since that was such a big part of it. They did their research well for the films, so unless they particularly messed that one up, I'm reasonably sure that's the way it was intended.
@@krumphau Would he have included pronunciation keys? Seems like a omitting that could easily slip through the cracks unless spoken in a recorded interview or something. Is their another example of a hard c in a similar spelling in English?
@@kitoyobeni1 The conversation made me curious so I looked around a bit, and there's a guide he wrote in the back of Silmarillion that's been reproduced on a few different websites. Among the first things is a very clear 'C is always pronounced hard, as in K'
@@krumphau I want to say the appendices in RotK also has a pronunciation guide too? Been a while.
My assumption is that it has something to do with Tolkien being a scholar of Old English. In OE spelling convention 'c' was (always?) pronounced with a hard 'k' sound. OE borrowed the alphabet the Romans used, which itself was borrowed from the Greeks and the Etruscans. The overlap of 'c' and 'k' goes all the way back to then, and they don't start differentiating until Middle English, I want to say?
I'm not educated on this subject, I'm just regurgitating half-remembered info from the EXCELLENT "History of English" podcast. Two big thumbs up if you are interested in etymologies, etc.
Thank you Sarah
More Sarah talking about vinyl and cassette please
Can’t wait for my preorder to get here!!!! I’ve heard nothing but good things about this album.
A Cassette tape sounds richer and fuller than a CD. Sounds warmer if that means anything.
Coincidentally, I just got into Cirith Ungol. It never clicked that Jarvis was in the band for some reason despite being a huge Night Demon fan. No, what got me into them, literally earlier this week, was having Arthur Brown's "Fire" put in my brain and then me looking up covers only to discover Cirith Ungol's cover. The new album kicks so much ass.
Forever Black is quite different because of Jarvis' groovier basslines. I'm a big Night Demon fan, but still need to get used to his artistic influence on the new CU album. You can clearly pick out the riffs he wrote compared to the more classical approach of the other members. I like the nods to their earlier work they put on the album. Dont have the album at hand, but I think it's the third track where they use the opening riff of Black Machine as the main theme for instance. Was supposed to see them double headline this weekend... Damn Covid-19 :(
If we were not living on a dommed planet we would watch CIRITH UNGOL live right now! At Keep IT True April 24th. And tomorrow...
never heard of Cirith Ungol before thank you Sarah
I don't like the cheesiness of power metal but I love listening to Sarah
Nothing cheese nor power metal about Cirith Ungol.
If anybody deserves success. These guys should be up there with priest , maiden , and sabbath. I’m so glad there back!
they are playing in mexico on september, you should come! night demon is playing too!
What a cool review. Thanks Sarah!
Just got the vinyl of the Cirith Ungol.
Despite all the problems with Paradise Lost, I love this record so much!
Top ten material and closing title track is so darn epic!
YUSS!
Go Sarah :)
Whilst reading the Elric saga in the valley of 1984.. "Moorcock?! That sounds like pornography" - my mom. 😆
She's such a nerd... and I love it!
Whats the opening riff from?
a mighty review
Very cool and thanks for the love to this super-cult band. Though I've been a headbanger since the late 80's, I didn't discover Ungol until '93 or so--they were THAT underground! I got to meet Rob Garven back in the late 90's and yeah, they are the real deal, with roots in the very earliest days of metal. Interestingly enough, during the 80's, the guys in Cirith Ungol and Manilla Road weren't even aware of each others' existence, despite their stylistic similarities and being influenced by the same 60's/70's psyche and heavy rock bands (Hendrix, BOC, Sabbath, Granicus, Uriah Heep, etc.).
Sarah is very and has great taste in music! great review
It figures that Covid 19 hits at the same time that Cirith Ungol is about to make their triumphant summer ahead. Hang in there boys....
Sarah is gorgeous! Hails from Ukraine!
Підтримую.
Guardians of the pit / I was a roadie for these guys at time of the King of the dead, we are on the inside Sleeve aka the guardians of the pit and of course I am the only one with short hair,, OI punks not dead..
BRING US MORE CASSETTE CULT
0:21, Frank Stallone?
Frost and Fire are great but sometimes I just want ....a little fire. ;)
I'm amazed at all these presenters' overall knowledge of metal even if much of it is reviewed beforehand. I'm older but basically at the GED level compared to their PHDs in metal.
Metal artist are HONEST if they feel their song or album sucks. It's so Sexy!!!
I
Nån landsman som blir sugen på att slå en tärning eller två när man ser detta? ;)
You are like really 🔥hot!
And the cassette player is dusty, of course it is. 😂
Marry me, Sarah!
Yo you saying anything regarding pronunciation is hilarious seeing as you mispronounce something nearly every episode.
cassette hipsters..... LMAO
She loves showing off her albums... lol. And she is clumsy with the tapes... not her generation.. I wonder if she keeps a pencil next to her music player!
those were the days
Wow hell yeah
Cool 😎
Wellcome to the brave new world....
Love these bands like Cirith Ungol, Manilla Road, Pagan Alter, Angel Witch, Witchfynde etc that all fit in this nexus point between NWOBHM and Power Metal. Kinda like gritty low-fantasy. Didn't know today was the day it was being dropped, but cannot wait to check it out now
Don’t forget TROUBLE
@@heshdeath4707 Eric is sailin' on a sea of love between realms of dream and reality...R.I.P. ✌
Cirith Ungol is to my opinion the purest and most honest Heavy Metal band in the world. Tower of Fire forever! Their new album is simply unbelievable! Cheers for this amazing video!
Crown upon his head...
Kiiing of aaaalll the deeeaaaaad!
It's the King!
Never realised how much I want that Cirith Until shirt until now. Great band.
Love your work Sarah!
Thanks Phillip!!!
Being a massive Moorcock as well as a Doom fan, CU has always had a special place for me.
CU is magical.
I love the thought, passion and sheer metal geekness Sarah puts into her reviews. Time to curl up with some Elric and rock out the Cirith Ungol.
GEEKS & NERDS UNITE! Cheers!
I got into ciroth ungol earlier this year! Oh the timing is sweet!

Sarah, your review is just perfect! Hail from Brazil!
Indispensable epic job .. BANGERTV Metal guardian angels rule ...
Love this and all the new episodes coming out - RIP Ron - also IDEA for Series: Going through instruments and band slots for 'most influential' - bassists and bass-lines, guitarists and riffs, etc. and you could go by genre!
Paradise Lost is still my favorite Cirith Ungol album (even got that record and a shirt with its artwork), it just has such a perfect mix of nwothm and early doom. Dayum shame about what happened to the band with its release, but i'm glad that they are back together now and since their reunion, Metal Blade did a proper reissue of it.
I love Sarahs enthusiasm! Her musical preferences arent a lot like mine, and yet she's turned me on to a few new bands that I hadnt heard prior and enjoy a lot, namely Pallbearer, Elder, Pagan Altar, and her own band Smolder. Thank you Sarah!
Love Cirith Ungol. Check their new release. Outstanding!
Isn’t cirith ungol a watchtower in LOTR ??? 🤔
I like everything about this channel!
Saw them live on only east coast appearance blew my wizard frosted mind
Have you made any Cassette Cult t-shirts?

Dust off that damn tape player!! Now!!
Right after the RFI episode on Cirith, cool!
Of course you have the Pagan Alter album with. Do you ever leave home without it?!? :)
Also, I didn't hear about Ron.

Whatever album you took away, I don't want to know. I'm glad you took it away.
Hope that Sarah made it back from Greece to Canada!
