I saw on my email Sonos released a new Sonos move and my first action was to come to RUclips and search your review. I have not watched it yet, but I’m super happy you’ve uploaded your video already. You guys are awesome!
I finished watching your review; honestly, I’m a little disappointed about the second gen move. Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not disappointed in your video, I'm disappointed in the new gen.
I definitely plan to have the Move 2 purchased as my Christmas present! It would complete me having a Sonos speaker in every room in my home, plus Roam is underwhelming as a speaker to bring outdoors, and I really hope that Move 2 will knock that out of the park. It will also very likely become a speaker that I take with me when traveling (by car not by air).
My little Bose mini has bitten the dust and I’m tempted by the move 2 with 30% upgrade making it £319. Thing is I DO want to take it by air snowboarding in January to play in the hotel room. I’m really undecided though…. At 3kg and a bit lumpy in the hand luggage, is it too big?
I called Sonos to ask if I could use the Move 2's battery replacement in my Move 1. They said it would fit, but would not peovide the extended battery range because that was achieved through updated software in the Move 2. Looking forward to your battery swap video...
Fantastic review! I actually returned my Era 100 that I was using to play a turntable off of. I’m replacing it with the Move 2 (whenever it arrives) and I’m going to use it as an outdoor speaker as well.
Great review! One thing I'd like to see tested is two stereo paired Move 1s vs. a single Move 2. Since others are upgrading, there may be some reasonably priced used Move 1s about to hit the second hand marketplaces.
great review thx i am trying to decide between the ROAM 2 or the MOVE 2 or the ERA 100 or the ERA 300 as an office speaker or living room I know sound is way different and price is quite a difference Black Friday is now and Cyber Monday so price on both have dropped for a bit ROAM 2 is 183 ( canadian ) 130 ( US ) MOVE 2 is 447 ( canadian ) 319 ( US ) ERA 100 is 255 ( canadian ) 182 ( US ) ERA 300 is 447 ( canadian ) 319 ( US ) cheers from Canada
Thanks for the great review. With this update, can we now compare it to the B&O Beosound A5 in terms of power/volume? Or does the Beosound A5 still deliver a higher volume?
It would be dope if Sonos let you use the Move or Move 2 as side speakers in a home theater setup. Assuming it would disable the side speakers in the ARC.
Love my Sonos Move… my favourite Sonos speaker. Any idea how much longer the new battery would last in the original Move? You showed some slides showing Move 2 uses less energy/is more efficient… so I guess nowhere near 24 hrs… but better than the original?
I'm a sucker to new Sonos products and currently have the Move 1. I'm thinking with the 15% discount for trade in might be worth it but still on the fence.
Find someone that is a student and have them generate the student discount code for 15% off… then you don’t have to trade in and you can still have 2 speakers 👍🏼
The production value of this video was insane. What camera do you shoot with? Was hard to focus on the review as I felt like I was watching a cinematic movie.
Hi Levi, thanks for the comment! We shoot all of our content with a Sony A7IV, a Sony 24mm-105mm and Sigma 35mm lens (as well as the occasional shot on an iPhone 14) Hope this helps 😊
Hi.. I noticed the mid-woofer is different in the Move 2 compared to the Move 1 (check @ 7.37 min in the video). Could be the reason you're hearing a difference in the mids. The Move 2 woofer looks more like the ones in the Fives.
Can you please compare this Move2 against the B&O Beolit20? Would be highly appreciated I personally have sonos in my whole house but still decided for Beolit20 over Move1 recently because i thought the sound was better.
Great video. We have stereo paired 5 for the turntable, old play 5, original play bar and am looking to get this to replace the sonos 1. Most music is streamed via Apple Music playlists, I assume this will still work ok?
One of my biggest gripes is the differences between volume over wifi and bluetooth. I got this to take to volleyball, pool, etcm=, and it's very unfortunate that it can not get as loud over bluetooth as it can over wifi. Does the Sonos 2 have this same problem?
I think the Bluetooth volume is heavily affected by the source output. You need to turn up the volume on the device being used to play the music; phone, tablet, laptop etc 👍
@HonestBlur The Move2 I have does not have this issue but it was an issue with Move Gen1. You can try using Sonos app to set the volume high BEFORE activating bluetooth, and make sure "Touch Controls" are toggled "On" within the system settings. Failing that, try a reboot. Remove speaker from charging base, press and hold power button for 5 seconds, then wait 10 seconds and power on. Try controlling with source/device volume, Sonos app volume, and with speaker touch controls....🤞
Great review. As someone who put off purchasing the Move 1 in hopes of the Move 2 coming, this is pretty disappointing. Nearly the exact same design, features mostly the same, same water resistance. and without one key feature needed for my smart home, google assistant
Is WILD to me you don’t think this is a massive improvement over the original. Most every feature was improved: battery (doubled, less idle drain), sound (20% better sound, wider soundstage, better mids, better vocals), more energy efficient, improved connectivity, reverse charging, more audio sources, etc. You’re obviously correct about Google Assistant, I just overlook that because I don’t use Google Assistant but I can see this being disappointing for those who do. Design technically is different - different ports, colors, charger. But I suppose the shape is the same if that matters.
@@Noone-xf9cm reverse charging is something i might use once if i ever do. Battery is a nice improvement, sound is slightly better as it obviously should be, and connectivity is better. Tbh thats about it. You just said better sound and battery in about 4 different ways. While i find these changes nice, its more about what they didnt change and what they lost that is dissapointing. They stuck on the already existing more modern parts that already existed on their other speakers like the era100, did nothing to improve design, water resistance, durability, and they lost the most important thing to me. Thats a big L imo. If i didnt need google assistsnt, i would probably see this as a moderate upgrade. But I expect a lot out of a top notch brsnd like Sonos, and this upgrade feels lazy. Ur right though, i should have mentioned some credit for improved battery and sounds
Thanks for the amazing detailed review, guys! Don't have any Sonos product yet, but selecting between the discounted Move or a newly released Move 2. Which one would you go for?
Only one channel is going to each speaker. So, both tweeters will output the same signal it's receiving, i.e. either the left channel OR the right channel. The two tweeters will help with wider dispersion of a single channel.
Nice selection of songs for testing sound. Can you share a list of this and other tracks for testing at the store (or link to streaming service list you might have already)?
I think you should try to clarify the stereo pair function. Once you pair the move 2’s over your WiFi will they pair over Bluetooth once outside of your WiFi network? They better.
@smarthomesounds Thanks a lot for your answer and the clear review. Unfortunately, it would mean an extra investment as my turntable doesn't have a preamp. Really like the Move 2 btw.
I’ve just gone and got myself a floor stand for the Move 1., if i change, and thats a big if, will the new one fit? Its a flexson floor stand, which is great btw.
I think the biggest downside to me about this otherwise great speaker is the notable drop in sound quality when streaming on WiFi vs on Bluetooth. Maybe there’s more to it I don’t understand, but if I’m at 70% volume on WiFi or 70% on Bluetooth via my phone, then there shouldn’t be a difference. I even contacted the customer support after I found this out and they told me that was just a normal thing, but for nearly $500 I don’t care if WiFi allows for a less compressed file, the volume should stay the same regardless.
I have a stereo pair of Move 1s in my garage. When stereo paired: do both tweeters in a given unit produce the same sound? Ie: do both tweeters in the left speaker play left stereo channel & both tweeters in the right speaker play right stereo channel? (I'm really bummed about not being able to stereo pair over Bluetooth. That's a big lack of functionality that competitors' speakers have had for years.)
Great review 👍 I have an Era 300 in my listening room, and was considering buying another for stereo sound while playing records. Question: can the Move 2 be stereo paired with the Era 300? Running on wifi mostly. If so, I may just buy the Move, can take with with me camping etc then leave it docked with the stereo system.
I was disappointed when it got to the 300. It sounded like the Bass dropped off and more mids was dropped in place. Or maybe the Bose Soundware I’m using just can’t hit the Bass notes the 300 is. I don’t know.
It's a nice Sonos era 200 with a portable capability, but it's really just a portable speaker as you can't pair the moves like you can with era 100s as soundbar surrounds. But for 450 excluding the portability? Hellll no.
God damn! that sux so much...just saw the answer towards the end of the vid, I want to use two of these out and about for parties and bbqs...what a massive let down
It's a disappointment, especially at this increased price point. I wasn't overwhelmed with the (sound of the) Move 1 and the upgrades are minimal. For some reason, SONOS has lost its vibe.
I want to use the move 2 to connect via bluetooth to my outdoor TV, and then send the audio to the rest of my sonos system thru the wifi network. is this possible with the new move 2?
Great question, and yes this is possible with Move 2. As soon as you connect any Bluetooth source it will show in the Sonos app and you can then group as the rest of your speakers.

Good choice, it’s a big step up from the Roam.

Yes it’s right. If you got the cash and want good sound it’s awesome. Stand alone or in any other room set up, it adds great sound. Got mine today:)
That red sonos one in the background is looking really nice
Thanks for the great review.
With this update, can we now compare it to the B&O Beosound A5 in terms of power/volume? Or does the Beosound A5 still deliver a higher volume?
I have two Moves I keep outside by my hot tub. These are the perfect speakers to listen to music outside.
Fantastic video. Well done.
Excellent review
It would be dope if Sonos let you use the Move or Move 2 as side speakers in a home theater setup. Assuming it would disable the side speakers in the ARC.
I already have 2 move speakers grouped to the arc. So my set up is 2era 300's, x2subs, with 2moves paired with the Arc.
@@Diegostyle So it is possible? To use arc/beam as "mothership" and pair Move2 as a speaker?
@Diegostyle where do u have the moves placed in this setup?

@parkerfisher57; Just to clarify; Sonos gives a 15% discount when you upgrade .......you get to keep both speakers.
Hi, what flower do you have next to Sonos at 14:23 minutes?

The new one, no doubt.
What’s the maximum volume you can listen without any bass clipping? Like 70% or 75% or 79%?
How do the 2 twitters react when played in Stereo Pair? Are both twitters delivering mono sound? Is only one twitter playing?

Does the turntable you use have a preamp? Now it seems you can connect any turntable to the Sonos Move 2, regardless preamp or not.
Ours has a built-in preamp, you will need a preamp for the move 2 to connect to a turntable though.
@smarthomesounds Thanks a lot for your answer and the clear review. Unfortunately, it would mean an extra investment as my turntable doesn't have a preamp. Really like the Move 2 btw.
Not supporting Google home and cant be use by voice assistance for me is big NO. Thanks for review.

I don't have a stereo in my truck. Could I use the Sonos 1 or Sonos 2 for that?
Just a question... Can we use the charging base of the Move 1 for the Move 2 ?
So it is not possible to add a move 2 to the rest of my sonos system for like movie?
What's yhe resolution on the dac ?? No one has addressed that

Can you set it so it plays spa music after hue motion detects you in bathroom? And stops after 15 mins or so
How many charge cycle does it have? The original had 300 charge cycle limit which made it basically didposable.
One thing is not very clear to me. If I have two Sonos Move 2s, can I pair both of them to play the same song at the same time?
Yes that’s easily done via the Sonos app. Hope this helps.
Any idea if and when the Move 2 will be compatible with Google Assistant? I run all my Sonos speakers via Google Home.
Can you stereo pair two Move 1 via wifi and send audio to them via Bluetooth?
Total speaker output power?
Is the move 2 low end bass performance superior to the ERA 100?
Does it support streaming 24 bit, 192khz flac music over Wi-Fi? I know the Gen 1 can only support streaming lossless music up to 24bit ,48khz.
I think the biggest downside to me about this otherwise great speaker is the notable drop in sound quality when streaming on WiFi vs on Bluetooth. No. Amazon does not allow Sonos and Alexa speakers to be grouped together

The 300 sounds distorted on some of the ‘bassier’ songs… for the price point … the Sonos five is a better option
When i heard era 300 i realised it s not a hi fi speaker. Sonos 5 sounds better, that bass is something
