  • Nikolai Kapustin's music is a one-of-a-kind fusion of jazz and classical. While he retained classical genres and forms (such as the sonata, prelude, and etude), he wrote in a virtuosic jazz style. The Jazz Preludes bear many structural resemblances to Chopin's monumental 24 Preludes, but Kapustin's set of preludes sounds worlds apart.
This recording was on Grant's third-prize winning program in the 2021 California Assocation of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) statewide Contemporary Competition.
