  • Taking a look at Oak Street Bootmaker’s field shoe.
    After I start smearing the dubbing in it is all pretty much silence and me sniffling like crazy. So skip to the end if you don’t want to be bothered with that stuff.

    Madness: As you opened the dubbin tub, I am thinking, no surely not, he won't will he? but then when you started I am thinking oh sh...t those amazing boots are ruined, but then you know what, they look pretty good at the end.... Man you were bold, but I think worth it....... Love to see what they look like when the stuff has properly settled in and dried...... hell I might do this to mine...... great stuff mate

      Thanks for watching. I liked the way they turned out. They’ve already lightened in color significantly from the what it was in the end of the video. I’ll maybe post some pics in a couple of days so people can see.

    I trust you didn't ruin your new boots! I was thinking that the can of Dubbing Oil was given as a souvenir and not necessarily intended for present day application. I would love to see a follow-up video of how they look once the oil has soaked in and worn a few times.

    • @aChannelAboutBoots

      The dubbing they include with it is absolutely not intended for actual use.

      I didn’t see any explicit instructions that the dubbing cream was not to be used. I would assume that that was to be used unless otherwise mentioned. It is a shoe cream after all. Anyway if it really wasn’t intended to be used then I think the worse thing to happen would be to change the shade of boot. I’ve always wanted a darker shade for this boot anyway. Yes please show us how the boot would look like after a few days. Thanks for the video.

    I've got a tin of that stuff from my father, who probably had it since the 1960s Smells like Kerosene and beeswax with maybe some turpentine thrown in. If its airtight, I expect it would last/bw usable indefinitely. I like the post treatment look a lot better than the original.

    Gotta love these manufacturers. "Hey, here's a simple Goodyear welted boot... That'll be $600". When PNW boot makers can use more materials, last the boot by hand and STILL charge less, there's a HUGE problem.

    Picked up some of these myself, along with their regular Field Boots, and Truman’s Dark Coyote Rough Outs.
    I think the M-43 boots had the rivets and the N-1s did not.

  • @jonnynogi
    @jonnynogi 4 месяца назад

    How are these boots doing? How do they compare to your Viberg boondocks and the Truman coyote rough outs? I read in another review that the raw cord soles make them feel like you're walking on a board. OSB just re-released these today, though at a higher price.

    • @aChannelAboutBoots
      @aChannelAboutBoots  4 месяца назад +1

      They’ve been great. The Vibergs are better boots but ridiculously more expensive. The Trumans are a better built and less expensive option.
      This is still a cool boot and I enjoy wearing them. The raw cord sole does seem harder than others. It definitely makes more clomping noises as you walk on a hard surface than say a Vbar. When I finally do a review I’ll be sure to hit the sole with the durometer.

    Interesting boots and great work! Now you can not worry about spots on new boots) The new boots were too faded, now they have a beautiful color.Over time, it will become lighter when the grease penetrates the leather.

    Hello! Nice boots! I wonder why they sewed the boots inside out? Most likely it is a mixture of wax and turpentine. In Russia, hunters and tourists use this old-fashioned method to impart waterproofing. Only ours are also treated with a hot air gun for better impregnation. called waxing.

    How is the sizing on these boots? Website says true to size but I’m not to sure about that. Thanks

    • @aChannelAboutBoots
      @aChannelAboutBoots  6 месяцев назад

      I went TTS and it’s roomy. I could see someone going down a half that likes a more snug fit and it feels like it might be doable. I haven’t done it, though, so I can’t say for sure.

    • @Fridelain
      @Fridelain 6 месяцев назад

      My philosophy is you can always add an extra insole or two (I make my own out of stacked sewed together denim from old pants, easy to take out and throw into the washing machine), wear thicker socks or two pairs (which is also great to keep friction from your skin), but there's very little you can do to make a shoe bigger, specially if you want it to look nice.
      Also a bigger toebox is nice.

      I went with my Brannock size as OSB recommended. It fits well at the ball and is snug through the back half of my foot. The toe box is really room. I will go more in depth in a future video where I’ll do a more focused review of this boot. Too much to go over in writing.

    • @RagnarokGenesis00
      @RagnarokGenesis00 6 месяцев назад

      @@Fridelain when leather get loose, fitting in same size eyelets in the same spots can become difficult depending on the severity. That’s why it’s recommended not to oil where the eyelets all. Also not where glue would be such as the perimeter of the middle sole/bottom sole, because depending on the oil it can eat the glue cause sole to separate then debris and degradation will happen quicker.

    I would absolutely send these back, that cracked welt and deep cuts in the upper are unacceptable. Btw, I just unboxed my own pair of these 5 days ago, they're not perfect but nowhere near as damaged as these outa the box.

      Yeah not a good look on these ones with those splits in the leather. Doesn’t bother me too much as I’m going to use these as beaters. If the leather splits at any of those points I’ll just sew it and maybe make a patch. You pop your tin of dubbing open to see what it looks like?
