I took that same walk in October. It was a beautiful day. There is something special about the Pitlochry area for me. Thank you for sharing your journey here.
I think everyone talks about the weather wherever you live. I never get tired of seeing all the different types of mushrooms. They are so cool looking. I love the Heather flower painting.🍄🌸
Sarah, since starting your channel you and Willie have never made a boring or uninteresting video of those walks you undertake with Jack Spaniels as a trusted companion what more could we viewers ask for. This video, five stars!!
"Let's get out of here before any more mushrooms get massacred!" 😆 Jack seems genuinely confused when you stop to take pictures sometimes. It's like he's trying desperately to find the thing that you seem so interested in. No squirrels here, not even a frog...what is it she keeps looking at??! It's amazing that you ever get the beautiful photos you have with all that "help". 😉 The walk was so beautiful, really just stunning. I really enjoyed the café and pub. They both look so cozy. Your painting is beautiful. Thanks for showing us the difference between the two types of heather. I love all your commentary, I learn so much. I also enjoy hearing about the weather. You're taking us along on your walk and getting all of our senses involved so it only makes sense that we need to know what type of weather we're experiencing. It brings it all to life. Thank you so much for all your hard work. And, as usual, Willie did a phenomenal job with the drone footage. It was another wonderful and enjoyable video. Thank you! 😊
Another great trek and you mentioning White Heather took me back to watching The White Heather Club with Andy Stewart. Ooh makes me feel old but there again I was 67 yesterday.😀
Thanks Sharlene! I'm so happy to hear that you are enjoying my videos :) I love being able to bring my viewers to places they might not be able to go to themselves. I'll definitely try and show you all some of my oder works soon!
I never tire of watching you create these beautiful paintings Sarah. I have a print of the Culloden thistle and absolutely love it. I would really like two more but it is so hard to choose💖
Yet another lovely walk Sarah. The sounds and colours magical and never feel you have to not mention the weather so much, it is as much part of the experience as the location. I don’t think I’ve ever met a dog happier than Jack, maybe he could have his own channel ! Breathtaking drone footage, thanks Willie and gorgeous painting.😊
Aww thanks Jane! I’m so glad you liked it all 😊 Willie does a great job with the drone - I might have to start paying him more than just a couple of beers soon haha!
At an early Thanksgiving dinner yesterday one of the guests was showing us his paintings. My husband told him about your channel & about your watercolors and how you sell them. i sometimes send him your videos to watch. Apparently he was taken by them.
Oh the tragedy of a mushroom massacre! 🙄🐕🍄 I seriously loved this autumn walk. I didn't do as well walking on the wet leaves and ended up with muddy knees during an outing to a lake on Friday. Why does loch sound so much better than lake? I love the painting and the views. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
Aww thanks so much! Yup - mushrooms are always in danger when Jack Attack is around. He has no respect for them whatsoever! I hope you were ok after falling! The wet leaves can be very slippy.
I’m so glad that I stumbled on to your channel. I enjoy the tours and history lesson, the music and of course your beautiful art. I first found the “ living the skye life “ channel and enjoy that as well .
No problem, Sarah. Everywhere I go, everyone is obsessed with the weather. I had to start paying more attention so I could join in conversations. I’m afraid now I have become obsessed, too. I’m happy you were the one walking over the swaying bridge, and not me. Beautiful painting! Loved the out takes with Jack!
Thanks Kathy! I agree - everyone is a bit obsessed with the weather, just we have more of it than some people here haha. I'll just keep it up and hope that everyone enjoys it :)
Talking about weather is fine, it is nice to know there is some in the world. Where I live you have two, hot or cold. If you blink you miss Autumn and Spring😊
My favourite part of Scotland I go there when ever I can queen's view and soldiers leap never fail to delight with the ever changing seasons . I received my calendar yesterday Sarah its so beautiful you really are a beautiful artist I can't wait to display it in the new year big hugs Alex x
I love this time of year, too, with the now-bare trees against a crisp blue and white sky and, the heather was an especially striking spark of colour against this background. Great choice for a painting, too, as in my mind it seems quintessentially Scottish, like thistles. Lovely job, Sarah!
An amazing video once again Sarah and Willie. Pitlichry is a lovely wee place. Your paintings are brilliant Sarah, so detailed and three dimensional, also Willie's camera work is outstanding! 👍🙏
🙏 Really enjoy your videos and finishing with a painting is just perfect 👌 I’m gathering ideas for future walks 👍 We’re also fans of Living the Skye Life and who couldn’t love Jack Spaniels ❤️
How lovely to have the beautiful colors of autumn leaves covering your path. I can't pass up seeing mushrooms and how different varieties there are. As always, Jack Spaniels warms my heart. Incredible painting. ☃️🎄❄️🐕
Thanks Guadalupe! Seeing the leaves everywhere is lovely - even when they aren’t on the trees any more! I love the crunchy ones that you can kick while you walk 😊
It was an awesome walk with magnificent photography! I loved it! Your watercolors are georgous! Thank you all for making and sharing the video and your time! It was most pleasant. Be well, stay safe.
Thanks for another lovely walk. I enjoy autumn as well - so beautiful. We received your calendar safely and in good condition. It is beautiful and nice to have a keepsake of your paintings.
Hi, 100% agree with you about the sight and smell and feel of autumn. The sunshine on the autumn Birch and Silver Birch leaves at the Loch side was magical. Again, thanks for taking us on another beautiful walk, I do miss it so it is wonderful to experience it all through your walks. :) xx
We have the Highland games here in Savannah, Ga. We are german by ansystery but we love the games, kilts, and the crafts. Not to mention the food. Bethesda Boys School is where our games are held. We have a large Scottish population here from the Revolutionary war days that stayed.
I don't think I have ever seen Heather grow anywhere around here. It is not native here. I have tried to get Lavender to grow; but, something always happens to it. Jack had a wonderful time. It looked cold. It is good to see real fire heating the buildings. A real fire always feels warmer on a cold day. Your painting is lovely. Thank you for the wonderful views and information.
I love your weather reports, makes me feel even more as if I am along for the walk...plus half of my ancestors are from all over the UK so maybe it's a dna thing 😂 your oil paint education is so evident in your watercolors...with all the amazing layering you do, I have never seen a watercolorist do so many layers....fascinating.
Thanks Colleen! Hopefully it brings a bit of realism to the walk haha :) I think you're right actually - oil painting is so much about layering and I probably bring that to watercolour without thinking about it! I am trying to learn more proper watercolour techniques, but I also like doing my own thing!
Fascinating history about the power station, it's great that they consider the wildlife and don't worry about your comments on the weather, it's comfort talk for us Brits lol. Also, I love that you have a harness for Jack, I think it's time neck collars were banned, they are not good for the poor dogs. I really like your paintings and yes, I would like to see what you created in oils 😀💗 x
It’s such a beautiful part of the country, more so at this time of year. I’m sure that suspension bridge used to have lots of padlocks on it? Cracking breakfast in the Dam Visitor Centre, by the way!
Ahh - we will have to go back! Apparently they do amazing hot chocolates too…I did see the padlocks, but they have been moved to a metal boat sculpture instead. Probably the bridge was getting weighed down by then 😬
Today in N.C. it was cold. The sun didnot come out to shine at all. However it was so different from yesterday which was in the high 60s. It's dark and making me feel like its bedtime. To sleep now would be for a futile nightmare for sleep later tonight. Enjoyed your walk-about. It appears that Jack Spaniels enjoyed the walk very much. Your painting of Heather is gorgeous and I hope you find some elusive White Heather soon. Greetings from the U.S.A.
Haha it must be a universal thing, but we Brits definitely have a reputation for it! I experienced very similar weather to home when I visited Copenhagen 😂
I lived on Cluniemore estate. Loch Faskally, Killiecrankie, Ben y Vrackie and the hills off the Foss road were my stomping ground. Loved it. Pitlochry is a bit too touristy for my liking.
Beautiful video, love nature walks, the smell, sights and lovely colors. Amazing music by Willie, your paintings always leave me shaking my head at how talented you are. Truly blessed
Your paintings are so delicate and pretty! And hello from a fellow Sarah, Scotland transplant, nature lover, and artist! I am so glad the youtube algorithm showed me your channel, (and I found your other one where you move to Skye). We live in Moray but got married on Skye and LOVE it and it's been my dream to move there someday. Or at least have a little cottage I can visit and paint at 😀 I was in Uig a few days ago doing a photo/painting trip. Such a coincidence!
Ah wow! That’s amazing 😅 you must have got some beautiful weather when you were on Skye - it’s been absolutely stunning the last week 😍 And what a magical place to get married too! It’s going to be a big change for us, but hopefully a good one!!
So pretty! Could not believe your work is in water color, it looks like you did a regular painting. Just love your picture's. Hope to buy some prints soon.
Another glorious walk 🤗 I loved those 'steps' for the salmon! Such a great idea. Looking at the screen while you were on the suspension bridge did look like you were floating to the side, it made me wonder if dogs can get that sensation 🤔😂 The loch was beautiful, it looked a nice day for a cold walk before being cosied up again. I also love how Jack's description beside his name changes every video lol, watching your outtakes explained why he was called 'Jack Attack' this time 🤣 Thank you for another beautiful video 🤗
Thanks! So glad you liked it all :) It was a wonderful day out - with the perfect ending! Fortunately Jack always provides the inspiration for a new nickname each week. He's very considerate like that haha!
When I saw in the title you painted heather, I thought you might have had to use an old photo for your painting this week. So I was surprised like you that there was some still around. Lovely painting by the way, as always
Thanks Brett! I was so surprised to find it - most of the heather is gone over by now. But we did have quite a mild autumn, so maybe it just got lucky :)
It's incredible to see all those leaves covering the grounds there. Jack is just so full of energy running around and going for a swim. Great to go to a pub after the walk and sit in front of a fire place. I think you've done a fantastic job painting in watercolor of the heather. How long have you been painting in watercolor? Thanks for another great video.
Thanks Sally! I started watercolours in 2020, while I was out of action after an ankle operation. My first ones were awful haha! But I persisted and improved :)
Hope that larger pint was for you Sarah - I can’t see you in profile as you’re so wee! Feel free to paint in oils if that’s your forte. No matter what you paint, it’s lovely and delightful to experience. How did you and Willie meet - details please!
Hi Laura! Willie wrote that piece of music quite early on in my videos and I love it too :) We called it 'Open Space' because its a bit spacey and chilled out!
hubby 'i know where that is' (he is sottish, knew right away where you were) ok,I know where you are now. i've been to that fish ladder, but its always been when the fish were not moving. nice heather painting, never seen any white heather anywhere but at a garden centre
Ahaha I often wonder if people who watch my videos have been to these places before :) I hope you enjoyed it anyway. I'd love to find white heather - it's quite rare, which I guess is why it is considered lucky. I'll keep looking!
Beautiful plant and painting! I have never heard of that plant. I wonder if there is any medicinal value to it? Have you ever thought about creating and illustrating your own book of medicinal wild herbs and mushrooms?
Thanks Debra! I would love to do some kind of book someday - how amazing would that be?! I'm not sure if heather has any proven medicinal properties, but it is very popular here and there is a lot of folklore surrounding it. You also get heather honey, which is taken from bees that only feed on heather flowers. It has a lovely delicate floral taste.
Sarah! Any more calendars coming for sale to make it to the states before the new year? I forgot to click Buy in Etsy and now you are sold out! (Congratulations btw! I have wanted one since I saw it in the Kit and Caboodlers video!)
Aww thanks so much! I do actually have a handful left (I have multiple listings with calendars in, so I didn’t want to list too many and oversell!) I’ll adjust the Etsy listings now, so they should go back live very soon (although very few are left now 😊)
Beautiful walk. I spent some time in scotland and really miss it. So exploring with your Walking Videos is really enjoyable. What kind of camera do you use to film the walks?
Thanks!! I use a Go-Pro for all the walking & scenery shots, plus my iPhone and a canon M50 for photos and close up detail videos. We also have DJI drone 😊
@@shewalksshepaints Thank you for your answer :-) I was thinking about getting a go pro for myself, what model do you use? They are quite expensive for me and I don't need one that has like the best of everything. Your quality seems fine, is that an older one or one of the new? Sorry for so many questions!
Hi Jan! It completely depends on the artist - some people are good at everything and some people have very specific skills 😊 I tend to find small detailed subjects easier than big landscapes, especially in watercolour. I used to do large abstract paintings when I was at university too!
I’ve never heard fish called Natural “resources.” I have strong hope that human consciousness will evolve and not perceive earth’s life forms in term of there own use. Fish have there own life form and don’t only exist for our consumption. No offense, I love your channel and who you are! Just working on shifting human perception and with such, word choice. I am always great full and have such love and respect for Gaia (earth). Love how colorful you are and I am so amazed with your paintings! Thank you 😊
Hi Lori - I’m glad you are enjoying my videos. I’m sorry if my choice of words came across wrong - I just meant that it was nice to see power being generated without too much negative impact on the river and it’s inhabitants 😊

Oh my those stone steps were kinda scary. Wet leaves on stone can be very slippery. A beautiful autumnal walk. Thanks for taking us with you! 💖👣🐕🌳🍁
Yes they can be - especially with a rowdy spaniel on the end of a lead…😅 We have to be very careful!
A wonderful walk. The leaves and all the wild growing things are beautiful ❤

ok,I know where you are now. i've been to that fish ladder, but its always been when the fish were not moving.
nice heather painting, never seen any white heather anywhere but at a garden centre
I do actually have a handful left (I have multiple listings with calendars in, so I didn’t want to list too many and oversell!) I’ll adjust the Etsy listings now, so they should go back live very soon (although very few are left now 😊)
Sarah, just be you. It's like a play by play of your walk. Does heather have a smell?
Not really - it's not like lavender or something like that, although it looks like it would. It kind of smells woody & delicate, not super floral.
No mushrooms were harmed in the making of this video. Jack attack!! Umm, actually... 😂
Please paint a portrait of Jack Spaniel. I think it would sell!!! Horses and dogs...my art teacher said!!!
Beautiful walk. Would love to do the same.
Question regarding art… do painters usually paint ‘everything’ or do they specialize in say landscapes or still life’s or botanical stuff?
Hi Jan! It completely depends on the artist - some people are good at everything and some people have very specific skills 😊 I tend to find small detailed subjects easier than big landscapes, especially in watercolour. I used to do large abstract paintings when I was at university too!
wow 1st
Yay well done!! 🎉
