This is special rare experience, imagine seeing this live.
0:44 the best guitar face
The BASS TONE btw
Albini in the back, rip master
People were not ready for this.
Agreed. Those that were into underground were tight with one another. It was a great time.
I was here. Great show! Shellac was great too. Real fun venue
Im trying to imagine how this must have felt to witness live, seeing them blazing through these insane tracks is just incredible. Thanks so much for this upload
I tried to imagine that too but I got really sad that I couldn’t ever actually see it that I stopped
I saw them at my friend's basement, an impromptu off the cuff show if there ever was one. If memory serves me right, they were in between shows and Eric's/Ian's/Damon's (can't remember) girlfriend set it up. My buddy's place was this continuous hangout/safehaven where anything could happen, some times incredible, sometimes not. He didn't even have a PA so everything went
through Eric's bass amp. They still sounded amazing. Needless to say it was a surreal experience. Eric and Ian were super laid back, so cool to me and others that were there. Damon was salty, lol. However, true to form, very confident, a total badass. I was 24/25 at the time, a complete dipshit, on a quest to discover the underground music, haha. Internet was in it's infancy, still pretty much word of mouth and crate digging. At this point, it was as if they were harnessing Steve Reich's Music for 18 musicians in power trio rock form. I'll be 50 in December. Fuck I feel old, lol.
@@RoryLynott thanks for your reply, what a great memory!
I hope one day they return. Damon is a great drummer.
steve albini in the back
wow never noticed him and after revisiting this performance- there he is in the back with his unbuttoned blue shirt and no glasses! I believe this was a shared bill as Shellac played later that day. Rest in Peace Steve Albini!

Anyone know why Ian plays with his guitar up so close to him ?
I remember seeing them play that day and thinking I wanted to get a line 6 pedal and do what that dude was doing.
did he actually use DL4s that day? I think his thing was the Akai Headrush for looping
@@dio_nysi bassist used a dl4 i think?
@@scraic1356fairly certain i saw footage of both their pedals and i think they both used the headrush? Ian always used two but the bass player seemed to only have one. From experience i can say that the dl4 is certainly more expressive but the headrush is way easier to use
The guitarist uses two Akais here. And the bassist has a Headrush and/or a Boss DD-2, which is what he probably uses to make the 'stuttering' effect on The Peter Criss Jazz.
HOW DID HE KNOW THAT!
Rad
pretty sure Ian can't see his tuner's display in the daylight @ 13:48
lmao tru
What does this mean
@@wolfgabe8925 it means he would have been struggling to tune his guitar.
HOW DID HE KNOW THAT?!
What did he say before that?
14:25 what pedal is he using to get that stutter effect? it sounds like its timing is really precise.
I have no idea but it’s one of the best bands ever so as far as I know it may be completely normal and just the playing that is so good
@@guitarfox8316 it's a pedal, he isn't playing the bass when you hear the effect
@@g2p2k ye most likely a tremolo petal
check out older digital delays with a "hold" mode. like a primitive loop pedal where the loop length is dependent on how long you hold the pedal down. He's striking the strings really hard and then holding down the pedal for a short amount of time. The "precise" nature of the effect has to do with his ability to match timing values to tempo. takes a bit of practice!
I know that Boss dd2 and dd3 do it for sure...
Setlist?
if you like these guys then i'd recommend The Minutemen, Firehose, and anything by Mike Watt.
