- This is Jerry Allison, Buddy's drummer, explaining how "Cindy Lou" evolved into "Peggy Sue".
He didn't mention that he was dating Peggy Sue at that time and wanted to impress her, so he persuaded Buddy to change the name of the song (luckily both names rhymed).
The ploy worked and he married Peggy Sue (which gave rise to the follow-up song "Peggy Sue got married").
That Latin beat was in the pocket my GOD
Superb drummer.I saw him play live several times and he knew about drumming.RIP
Got to meet Jerry in the late '80s when The Crickets Reunion Tour played Gresham, Oregon's Skateworld roller rink. It was a concert setting right out of the movie "The Buddy Holly Story." Earlier in the day the band did a meet and greet at a local record store where I told him that the opening drum beat to "Peggy Sue" was one of the most memorable sounds in all of rock and roll. Right on cue Jerry started playing that legendary paradiddle pattern with his hands on the autograph table. Best fan experience I ever had.
May the soul of one of the greatest drummer of all time rest in peace
May he rock in peace.
Amen
RIP Jerry Allison.
I wrote him 2 years ago and he sent me an autograph pic of him and buddy and a short letter.
TV-shot showed J.I.'s HEAVY-end left stick - ROCKIN!
HBD Jerry Allison! 80 years ♥

Legend. And what a great drummer !!!
Jerry allison умер
He played drums on Buddy Knox's Party Doll and Tommy Roe's 1962 release of Sheila. On the records of course. Others probably did any live performances of these songs . Jerry Allison is comparable to any drummer I can think of, even Ringo .
@@wesleycook7687 I never knew that! I always thought Tommy Roe's 'Sheila' reminded me somewhat of 'Peggy Sue'. Thanks for the info Wesley!
All do it now showing people nowadays has done
rest in heaven above Jerry
@darilc1966 He's still a musician, as the Crickets still do live shows.
One of them died recently..

Happy 79th Birthday Jerry J.I Allison !
Absolute legend. We miss you, J.I.
Wow.
He probaly didn't mention the fact that he was dating Peggy Sue because they divorced at some point in the late 60's. In Arena's Tales of Rock 'n' Roll documentary that looked at the story behind the song Peggy Sue (which also featured herself) she explained the reasons as to why and how they seperated. This clip here of Jerry demonstrating the song on the drums was also used in the programme which was of good relevance so credit goes to Arena for including this fab piece of film.
Love the piddle- paddle Beat.
Is it common for drummers to play with one stick backwards?
Yes, it gives a heavier backbeat because of the weight of the stick being heavier on the non-tip end
He holds the sticks upside down
That's why he was brilliant! RIP JI❤
@@kevincasson9848 he was indeed RIP
Happy birthday, Buddy Holly. Wish you were around to see the fans you inspired.

Great band!
When did he make this

I heard Nikki Sullivan didn't like the tours and on the road all the time, so he quit, That's what I was told anyways.
It was also discovered that Niki Sullivan was a distant cousin of buddy Holly's
Not just cuz they looked alike lol
He got this song from the guy from quantum leap :P.
