I've been to this place including the IMMA many times and it is one of my favourite places in Dublin and IMMA is my most favourite museum in Ireland of all time as well.
It's a wonderful place. It has beautiful French gardens.
It used to be a military hospital for injured and retired soldiers in the 17th century.
My old neighborhood. My wife and I had lovely wedding photos taken in the church in the hospital. Long ago.
Also, in the graveyard, there are over 200,000 people buried. It was free to the masses to bury there until it became too full. The first burials took place in 1014 AD.
Lastly, that area is the site of Saint Maignheann’s priory established before Dublin was founded! The area thrived because of the Camac River and the Liffey. Both water sources to run the many mills there.
