Loving Vincent should also be on the list. It's a wonderful fully oil painted film that brings the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh to life and the story of his controversial death.
I was about to comment about "Loving Vincent". As my late artist father told me as he was watching the movie "The painting is moving". In his life as an artist, he only saw the paintings of Van Gogh in photos. He was really astounded and mezmerized by the movie. Great movie. The song at the end too.
Lust for life / At eternity's gate / Surviving Picasso / Sirens / The agony and the ecstasy / Renoir ...as mentionned in above comments. + 2006's Local colour (Liotta, Perlman) & 2009's Tramontana aka "Northern Wind" consideration for hon. mentions
The Impressionists (2006) The Artist and The Model (2012) Sirens (1994) Agony and Ecstasy(1965) How to Make an American Quilt (1995) Frida (2002) Lust For Life (1956) Little Ashes (2008) Basquiat (1996) Hidden Away (2020) My Left Foot (1989) The Girl With a Pearl Earring (2003) Modigliani (2004) Pollock (2000) Never Look Away (2018) At Eternity's Gate (2018) Vincent and Theo (1990) The Yellow House (2007) Loving Vincent (2017) Charlotte (2021) Renoir (2012) The Beautiful Troublemaker (1991) The Painting (2011) Andrei Rublev (1966) Goya In Bordeaux (1999) Caravaggio (1986) Artemisia (1997) Surviving Picasso (1996) Mr. Turner (2014) Nightwatching (2007) Klimt (2006) Incognito (1997)
Maudie hasn't been mentioned and there's a short film amongst the "New York Stories" ensemble film with Anthony Hopkins (I think it was) that I should review - I only remember the thick application of paint by the artist to rock music. My fav is Basquiat - Jeffrey Wright portrays Jean Michel 's character with style and pathos. There's a good ensemble supporting cast too with Benicio Del Toro, David Bowie, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman Willem Dafoe, Claire Forlani, Christopher Walken etc
I think that both the Frida movie and the movie American Quilt inspired a selfish part of me in becoming an artist, because it is accepted that an artists has more than one woman.
Right off the top of my head: "Carrington", Derek Jarman's, "Caravaggio", "Life in Squares", and for all its problems, I have great affection for "The Agony and the Ecstasy"
"Lust for Life" is far and away the best of the films about painters. I've seen myriad films, and all of these listed already, and "Lust for Life" still stands at the summit.
The painting tech in the "GwaPE" is totally wrong. In 16th century nobody painted straight to canvas. Painter made drawing or drawings, copied the lines to the canvas or wood and then added the paints, For drawings they used the several sets and technologies but probably not the camera obscura although it was already invented. Why? Camera obscura needs a very bright light for illumination and rooms those days were pretty dark. And its pretty awkward to draw with camera obscura actually, it needs a very static object. Good artists could draw with his naked eye better than with camera obscura.
This list is good but incomplete. It should have The Agony and the Exstacy y many others. It should all inclusive. Why the top five if not all the biographies of great painters.
1. Basquiat 2. Vincent and Theo 3. Goya in Bordeaux 4.Nightwatchingl 5. Love is the Devil
Basquiat, Downtown 1981, and I Shot Andy Warhol are all worthwhile.
You left out “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” and “Gaugin” and “Goya’s Ghosts”.
Thank u...
Girl with a pearl earrings painting by vermeer in 1665 is one of the most famous painting
Loving Vincent should also be on the list. It's a wonderful fully oil painted film that brings the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh to life and the story of his controversial death.
Where did you find this movie? I’m trying to find it on RUclips and Netflix but not a chance 😞

I was about to comment about "Loving Vincent".

Great movie. The song at the end too.
I can't believe you left out the movie about Vincent Van Gogh, starring Kirk Douglas "Lust for Life"
And Basquiat. The movie itself is great and he as an artist was one of the top artists throughout the history.

My number one "The Impressionists" The 3 hour BBC mini series from 2006

Basquiat. A man who's paintings were even more stupid than him.
I think that both the Frida movie and the movie American Quilt inspired a selfish part of me in becoming an artist, because it is accepted that an artists has more than one woman.
You left out THREE great movies, that i know of:
The Impressionists (3 part series on RUclips)
The Yellow House
The Artist and The Model
Lust for Life (1956) is missing
Full movies in English regarding famous painters do not exist on you tube ,shame on you RUclips,
Jeffrey Wright playing Basquiat was a good picture.
I can’t believe you didn’t include the best of them all, Andrei Rublev.
You missed The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021) and Never Look Away (2018)
She should have won an Oscar. Fantastic Film.
There is this movie called tulip fever but I didn't favour the impure scenes in the show
Right off the top of my head: "Carrington", Derek Jarman's, "Caravaggio", "Life in Squares", and for all its problems, I have great affection for "The Agony and the Ecstasy"
Where can I watch agony and ecstasy
I have to make a correction it was Nick Nolte in New York Stories (I confused it with another art movie that has Hopkins) - my bad.
"Lust for Life" is far and away the best of the films about painters. I've seen myriad films, and all of these listed already, and "Lust for Life" still stands at the summit.
You should watch Andrei Rublev if you like this kind of films.
@@benitojuarez5190 imma watch it
You should add Little Ashes (2008)
Nice movies,, that have regarding art painting,,, I like it,, pull watched and subscribed,,, ❤️👍
Except the above video,
suggest me all movies or series about painting/art/artist or related?! ✨🦋
Those were good but need more of them
I loved POLLOCK. I thought less of the painter, though.
Superior movies existed in the 20th century. Montparnasse19,Lust for Life,Rembrandt,Pirosmani,Andrei Rublev all superior movies to this list.
Are these movies educational or just entertainment ?
I think it fits the world entertainment more. But there is a manga (soon anime) called "blue period" that is perfect for educational purposes

This list is good but incomplete. It should have The Agony and the Exstacy y many others. It should all inclusive. Why the top five if not all the biographies of great painters.
