    "The meatball next to me..." lol Got a chuckle out of me. :D Wow! Learn something new everyday: Ivory Black's origins and its substitute. It's definitely information to absorb and figure out how well, or not, it sits within one's mind.

    I like the light because of the color but you do you, it looks good either way to me.

      Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I think it depends on my mood. I moved it to the back a little more on a couple videos so I'll see how that looks. I think my skin color looks a little more natural without the light but I don't think that really matters. I'm not that vain. 😉

    Congratulations to your nice selection of cheap watercolours.🙂
    I also like to use my student grade watercolours with intense pigments such as quinacridone, phthalos and diaoxazine violet because they are easier to control than the Artist grade versions, which are often too intense for me.

      That sounds like a good idea. I never thought about that before. Thanks. 🙂

    That brush effect is really nice - it does look like charcoal - I dig it! 👍

    Yay! The bright spot in my Monday morning! Looks like charcoal? Yes, I agree. Love this technique with the color, and so pleasing with the ink detail. Can’t wait to see what you do every week. ❤️

    This came out great! Van gogh used some of the cheapest paints lol. his blue irises are actually supposed to be purple. Use what you have!

      That's a great way to go about it. "I used to have a purple painting but now I have a blue one." 🙂

    This one was fun! Even your bratty alter-ego got a good laugh! I didn’t know that non-pro w/c could be layered up to look like pro colors. I really like the Cottman colors (my first set!), but haven’t been using them much since I found my 6-color warm/cool palette from W-N. The colors are so clear and clean! Lately, for even more variety, I’ve added burnt sienna and veridian for mixing, and cerulean blue because I like it (*grin*). I’m also experimenting with handmade watercolors from DeepDeepLight and Essee and they are luscious(!), although it’s hard to layer them to show through.

      I think these were comparable to Cotman. Those were some of my first watercolors and I liked them pretty well. I just realized I've never tried Windsor and Newton's professional watercolor. That needs to change. I'm always worried about buying handmade watercolors because they are expensive and if they suck I'll feel a little remorse. Maybe I'll try a small set of 3 colors to see how I like a brand. Thanks for the idea Anna! 🙂

    i passed on that deal because i am mad at the local hl. they dropped almost everything not in their brand. paper, paint, brushes, all of it -_- and i have been disappointed by pretty much all of their brand paints and supplies. i basically go there for my craft projects or framing supplies anymore. my deal breaker for cheap watercolors is when they dry rock hard and take forever to reconstitute. of course if i know i am going to deal with that already i add a few drops of vegetable glycerin and mix it in the pan. makes it alot easier later. i do alot of layers in my works. oh, and i like it without the blue light better, i am lucky enough to have alot of natural light in my painting space. it looks like a tree that got some of the bark scraped off.

      I think they all started dropping the other brands. They are just giving up sales to local art stores which need the help anyway. Not that I have any close so for me they are losing sales to Amazon. These weren't that bad. I'd use them for quick line and wash pieces again. I haven't tried them dried yet though. 👍🏻

    Why would you throw out dried watercolor paint ?
    Isn't it the same as pan paint?

    Complete newbie here....Why do you draw a black line where you are putting your paint to check out the color? I saw someone else had that and I didn't think much of it until I noticed you also had a line. I'm assuming there is a reason for it. Thanks so much. Love your humor.

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  Год назад +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed this. The line shows how opaque or transparent the colors are. Since these were very cheap paints that I've never tried before and I was going to paint them over ink, I wanted to make sure they wouldn't cover my lines too much. Good question. 🙂

    As a beginner, I have a hard time working with The Master Touch watercolor paints. They are chalky

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  Год назад +1

      Yes, I understand. They are a little chalky. For simple line and wash they work fine but for a standard watercolor piece I don't think they would be very good.

    You're watering the paint down b4 applying it to the test paper ... every time you stick it in the pallet & swish it around with the water brush. J/s
