great vid once again, but the infotainment system is useless now. Thats an expensive item!!!!!
I don’t have a special. I got the smaller screen without the “touch screen” capabilities.
Makes more sense for a standard bike
Its not really useless you can use the hand controls. You should be watching the road anyways.
Man that's a dilemma. Those bars are born for that bike. Not a fan of infotainment in any vehicle, but it'll take a clever dude to figure a way to repurpose/relocate that thing. At the end of the day, this is that dude's bike & it's one hell of a bike! I'm sure he has a blast riding the thing!
Looks like these bars would be better suited for the Electra Glide Standard.
Thinking the exact same thing
I was thinking the very same thing!
I agree
Sure.
I have this same bike. I just put 12 inches bars on my Special Street Glide. After seeing this I want T bars
I have the same setup on my 16 SGS. Handling is amazing. Highly recommend this setup!
Does the acc switch have to be relocated?
It’s completely removed. I took my bike to the dealership and had the ECM re flashed. Now I just use the key fob. No key needed.
@@jrozay3788 how do you use your spotlights? flashed into to the high beams?
Striped Lighting my street glide doesn’t have the spotlights.
Cool setup, deff like it. But on my 13 SG, where wld I put the ignition? My don't have a fob.
Man, that's pretty sweet, I might have to do that on my 19 FLHXS as I live in Florida and I haven't seen one person in FL with that setup
I knew I wanted T-bars on a touring bike so I bought a Road King and put a factory outer Batwing on it. Factory touring bike handlebars suck, t-bars really improves the steering dramatically.
Agree...the route I am currently on...
Where you relocate the ignition switch?
One can’t even see the SAT NAV/Radio screen......🤦🏻♂️
I like the setup. you sacrifice the entertainment center but I would never have one in the first place. plenty of other options for music. looks like super good quality of the parts.
Just helped a buddy with some bars and we hid the wiring just like the pros! its 100% do-able.
Don’t know how I feel about this...looks a lot better on the Road Glide.
Im not feeling those bars on the SGS but it I love it on the road glide
Love T bar setups on baggers.... 👍 Run a moto setup on my Dyna LRS. Pretty far into my performance bagger build on my 16 SG..... Been pondering ditching my current 14" Yaffe Monkeybars for this setup (especially to gain access to my GP 25mm cartridges up front). BUT the hassle and pain in the a$$ of swapping em the 1st time hasnt completely been forgotten (though at least now its just wiring).... Maybe later when Ive forgotten more of how much of a pain in the a$$ the job is. 👍
Total pain in the ass lol
I’m not a fan. But I am interested in that lucky Dave’s seat. I’ve been shopping for a new seat. I ride a 19 SGS. Can you think of doing a seat review vlog. What are your thoughts on the Lucky Dave’s?
Ive had both... lucky daves seat on my dyna... now i have a custom bmc corbin wall on my 18 sgs .... go with the corbin..
I have one on a 19 road king and had one on my dyna its a amazing seat, moves you back little over an inch and alittle taller than stock. Has gel and overall is a comfortable seat I can rack 5hrs or so in a day with no issue. Hope that helps a bit
Also look up saddlemen if you haven’t already. They make a great seat in my opinion and run one on my 18fxbb
@@thebus9185 what do you like better about the Corbin? I looked at them but couldn't find anyone local to sit on one. I went with LD based off talking to a few guys and had one on my dyna. The Corbin Is a great looking seat also.
@@MaryJaneismyGF its definitely alittle more comfortable..looks better in my opinion....but mainly because its fully customizable through bmc
Where did yall put the ignition switch?
you have to get a cvo flash to your ecu the remove it, just did this to my Electra Glide Special
IT WOULD BE COOL IF THE SCREEN WAS THE WINDSHEILD, LIKE A CORVETTE USED TO BE, AND THE SMALL CONTROLLER WOULD BE ON THE HANDLEBARS WHERE YOU COULD STILL SEE THE SCREEN AND HAVE A NICE EASY CONTROLLER! I'M A DREAMER THOUGH! RESPECT, GOD BLESS YOU'LL!
Where's the ignition switch
You have to move it. On the specials it’s already located on the bars.
Not feelin it... diggin my yaffe 14's
Beautiful bike .... tank lifter kit would do wonders as well ..
Definitely different everyone has the mini apes type of thing you got to get used to thanks take care Matt
Don’t like it...may as well take the infotainment system out...love the breather and the seat...bars not fancy on them...cool bike
Appreciate the comment. Yea, A lot of people are split on this one with how they block the infotainment
Tbars ride the best hands down... if they made a tbar that opened up around the infotainment system i would swap out my vindiktas for that
Im not watching the screen im watching the road lol
Handlebar changes seem to be quite common these days. I guess I'm lucky.....the stock bars on my SGS suit me just fine.
Those SVTs are fire! Plus I'm doing the pullback plate, I got a 12 Electra glide classic, so I got the older info center the only thing I use is auxiliary cables to listen to tune. Can't wait to do this, and as a certified Harley tech it amazes me that garage techs don't clean up their wiring. It's really easy to make it look clean Matt. Clean mean bike
I personally think that if clubstyle is your choice then the road glide is the way to go. The street flide looks funky with this style setup.
I miss the leverage of my old tbars.... is anyone making a one piece tbar for new sgs?
If you think you'll do this on your own Streetglide...you're too late for this tip but if you haven't bought one, buy a Road King Special and take the thousands you'd save and buy a quick disconnect batwing or Glide-Pro bubble fairing and take your savings and buy a Kraus set up...This is what I'm currently doing. For now, I use the Glide Pro bubble fairing and the Kraus ERG set up and Raptor pullback plate. Next up is to install the gauge pod within the bubble and buy a batwing for those longer rides where I want more wind/debris protection. ATT Kraus: Perhaps mock up some aluminum braces like in the video.
Great write up, looking to do the same with my 16 SG build. From the vid, looks like 10" risers with a set of bars with a 4" rise are what I need to give me the height and gauge visibility. Ill be replacing my 14" Yaffes. Looks like Ill also need to source an alarm package and fobs for the ignition delete.
What have you guys been running for bars with their setup to run heated grips? Im a daily rider and need to run heated grips for the early morning commutes.
What a gorgeous ride.. I wish I could afford one.
Do you have one yet?
Matt, another great video. Thanks. Electra Standard is the move.
Where did the ignition switch get moved to?
It gets removed and your dealer changes the switch to just be within your right hand starter switches. So yeah no more steering lock.
Is the ignition ran to the kill switch now on that bike?
On 2nd thought I think a set of custom made high rise clip on bars would work. This way you could have a clear view of the gauges and infotainment center.
Would love to see a heads up display on some of the newer bikes that have a windshield
I like the t bars set up but personally I would want some that were further apart so I could still see the screen. The street glide and road glide are my favorite bikes out of all the different bikes out there
Try the ERG bar setup. You might want to use shorter risers but the middle then, is wide open
Did you make the IGN keyless though DT2
Ya, wheres the ign switch?
Thanks Matt, always enjoy your reviews. I think if the risers where better designed in terms of their shape you would have a better view of the infotainment screen. I would have bowed the risers outward to clear the screen then bring them up to clamp on the bars. I do love that killer seat though...
I think you are correct. The base plate should push the riders out some so the screen could still be of use.
dyna98rider I was also thinking of high rise clip on bars. Then you would eliminate the whole top clamp all together which would give you a total view of the infotainment screen. I can’t believe someone would actually spend all that money on such a expensive option only to hide it from view with those risers. Oh well
@@michaelgurgone2825 if we look close enough, the base plate could be widened to have the risers track on either side of the screen. How would that affect the steering, would bang into something? This has got my inner engineering geek thinking.
dyna98rider hard to tell until you mock up a model first.. I think a custom pair of 2 piece high rise clip on bars like the crotch rockets have, except designed as risers and adjustable designed Mounted directly to the upper fork tubes. This way you can clearly view the gauges and infotainment center and have no clearance issues. Just a thought!
Not my style but I do like the grips. I can see why folks would like these bars. I also am a big fan of the headlights.
I’m pretty sure you missed an important caveat. The relocation of your switch.
I’m liking this, nice to see some fresh new ideas!
Where do you relocate the accessory switch to for the passing lamps?
Good looking setup, I would like to run that on my Fat Bob.
Love the vids bro from nyc.... off hand question can you fit the dominion floorboards on an 18 street glide special
No man, it kinda sucks. Those Floor boards are for the FL softail models only.
@@MattLaidlaw 🤦🏻♂️ their losing money with that decision
Would I need to extend the lines on a 12 inch kraus bars? Have a 09 street glide
Beautiful look but how does it handle having them set back in like that?
Matt, have your bike builders check out the American made ROX risers.. they actually pivot and are highly adjustable and also come in a vibration damper option. A lot of KTM and BMW bikes use these highly adjustable risers and can accommodate many handlebar O.D sizes. I think these risers can solve many issues and add a new level of adjustable handlebar riding comfort. Your shop and crew really should check this great product out.
Thanks for your great content at Laidlaw Harley-Davidson. I never miss a video of yours!
Cool. I’ve never seen those before. I think they would look fine on a dirt bike but I think they would be pretty ugly on a Harley. Maybe if it was a dirt tracker, or purpose built dyna/softail.
Matt Laidlaw Actually I wanted to run these pivotal/adjustable risers by you because Maybe your shop can incorporate the function of design into a prototype that has a“cooler” pleasing look. Also, as a prototype Machinist I was toying with the idea of designing a telescopic riser/pivot design for my Dyna that would adjust from a low drag bar look to a high rise configuration . Thanks for your input Matt.
Great video!
Quick question, how do are aux lights controlled without the lock panel?
Great presentation of this cool bike!
If he unplugged the screen somehow then its cool, i have a 2013, no screen, i love my bike,
Different strokes for different folks, not feeling it...
Can the fork lock stay on with this setup.
What happened to the ignition switch and button spots?
Hey Matt, great video I know this was taken a while ago , but we’re did the switch get moved for the lamps ?
Matt love the channel.I have a 2012 ultra classic with a stage one and true duel exhaust . Love Harley and ridding. Can you post more of your ridding and trip videos ? Thanks for keeping us informed.
Love the KRAUS bars Peter! Wish we could hear the Bone Shakers!
My bad. I should have got some audio.
Were you able to still see the speedo/tach/fuel gauges while sitting on the bike? I know that depends a lot of the height of the rider.
Stupid set up for sgs.. Electraglide standard is what you want to put those on.
Mick McNasty why? they have the same frame, motor and suspension.
Nm just got to the point where they show that it blocks the infotainment screen.
Fuck the infotainment system...tbars give you the most leverage
Looks really clean 🧼 How do the bars feel with that plate and off set 🤔
No one ever wants to talk about the ignition relocation task!!!
looking to do this at our dealership in february; plan on using the EM0034 epic ign relocation kit blk for the relocation, but it goes to the horn location, and will have to relocate that as well. how did you go about relocating the horn if you did the same process; or where did you locate the ignition if not using the horn location.
Those look like handlebars that you see on mountain snowmobiles that are designed for deep snow with their long tracks.
Harley Riders seem to hate stock motorcycles.
Doesn't the infotainment system have controls at the handgrips. Shouldn't matter if that's the case just can't see all that's going on. Especially if your using GPS.
Yes it does.
How much on average is a shop going to charge to install that bar setup if I’ve already got long cables installed?
Well...that’s a thing.
IMO not a good look on batwing fairing.
But hey, you do you.
Would these bars work on a 08 street glide?
On the website it says the steering lock/ignition needs to be removed or relocated. I really want to do tbars on my sgs. Where or what did this guy do with his ignition/steering lock
what is the total height of the bars ? 12"
How about the ignition switch?
I am digging the setup on the RG one more thing to add to my list . Great vids Matt 👍
Thank you !
Why not get a rgs if you want t bars?
How do you turn the bike on? The switch is gone. And the buttons for the passing lamps
There is a update done electronically to make the run switch the ignition much like the CVOs.
@@MattLaidlaw Would that work on a 2013?
What about the buttons to turn the speakers or the cruise on?
For what HD charges for these new starter kits the suspensions should be quality and not the garbage they get away putting on 30K bikes.
Local harley shop tells me its gonna take 10 hours to install on my 2016 street glide and that I need extended cables..is that even close to being right?
Hey Matt, just curious what y'all did with the ignition switch? Is there some remote setup?
You lose your ignition switch you just start the bike with the on off on the handlebars
jetag93 I have the same setup on my street glide. I took it to the dealership and they re flashed the ecu like a CVO. No key needed or switch needed. Just the key fob.
Would that plate for the bars work on my 97 Electra glide. No nav so it would be cool?
I am getting almost this exact set up, and I am concerned with the ignition switch. What exactly would I need to ask Harley to do in order to kill that ignition switch? I called in and ask if they could disable it and the guy had no clue what I was referring to. I must be missing some sort of terminology.
Just tell the guy u need a cvo flash for your glide
Where's the ignition switch?
awesome
Matt, have you ridden this bike yet? I know is been awhile this video came out. I was wondering if you ridden this bike with the T bars and if you liked it. Thanks
I never rode it. I wish I did. I’m thinking about these bars for my own bike.
You should do it.🤘🏻
I dig the look but I couldn't give up access to the screen.
why would u do such a thing????????
Where and how did he move the ignition switch?
It is setup now like the cvo where you hit the run switch and then the ignition fires up.
Matt, do you think there would be room for 8" risers opposed to 10 and not interfere with the gas cap?
Yes, I don’t think shorter risers will interfere with the gas cap.
As per their website and my experience last week....the 5.5" Pullback top clamp (when used with their Raptor pullback plate) do not clear the speedo. We need to add at least their 3.5" riser. Just did exactly that on my RK Special with ERG bars....awesome, but note that certain RAM mounts will not work with ERG bars
With the tbars where is the ignition switch
Form over functionality is never a good thing. Thanks for the video Matt.
Awesome video. But man... I have nothing good to say about this set up. Bitchin on a Road Glide for sure.
Thanks for weighing in
Great vlog matt,i was gonna ask you how you fit with that lucky Dave's seat,I'm 6'4", I'm thinking of it for my 18 rgs
I fit okay. I prefer my BMC seat that set me back an additional 2 inches.
@@MattLaidlaw excellent thx man I'll check it out
Bmc is better for touring bikes.... LD all day on a dyna
@@thebus9185 thx I think for my dyna I'm gonna check into the lucky Dave's,the BMC looks good,I'm in Florida and Corbin is right across the state
@@acef4389 yea bro you can grab a standard corbin or you can get a custom one from Bmc.
Where is the steering lock switch Relocated?
It doesn’t have it anymore. No fork lock.
Nah, its not pros vs weekend garage guys. Its pros and people that do research and give a shit about doing it right, vs lazy mf's that don't care/don't take the time to do research and do it correctly. I'm no pro, but I did research, and internally wired both of my last dynas. Did it suck learning as I went yes. But I did it correctly and didn't have some ghetto ass bar job.
HD should offer the chrome SGS not every one wants a blacked out bike
Sick!
On a road glide yes. On a street glide its a hard NO.
Looks good, get a 2013 without that stupid screen.
I agreed, infotainment system became absolutely useless with this t-bar set up. I’m not a big fan of it !
Why would u do it if its makes ur ent useless from a nav perspective....its his coin so more power to him.
looks like you wouldnt have full range of steering on it.
You have the full range on the steering
I have this setup. Ten times better than stock or ape hangers in my opinion.
Gonna be hard to use the screen lol
Yup
Beautiful bike, nice bars, bad set up.
I like it, but can’t get past the infotainment issue!👍
We still very angry my brand new twin cam broke down on me off of the I-10 ; in middle of no where ; 10 o'clock at night. I only survive I was able to pull into a truck stop that had a diner, and an internet kiosk that I could call for help. Had to spend the night sleeping next to a pinball machine....Got a tow into Phoenix the next morning...... I spend 26 grand on new twin cam , and the dealer's shop manager in Phoenix ; at first tried to refuse honor the one year factory warranty. I tried to complain to HD in Milwaukee, but never got a reply.....So, this is war............Then I discover factory cam bearing case is made from a tin alloy, designed to fail.........This is also reason why repair shops under orders never to release failed parts back to the customer. No, this is not awesome.......this is war......sir..............We not kidding.........!!!!!!!!!
