This is a masterpiece. I'm emotional as I watched the video. Jamaicans are very talented, bright, and creative. With the abundance of talents and gifted people in the country, there is no way we should be this poor as a country. We have to dispose of the corrupt politicians and build our country by ourselves. Thanks, Irine, for giving us this marvelous video.
Let’s just celebrate the talented being showcased and leave the negativity out. There is no perfect government and no place where everyone is affluent. Some Jamaicans excel at being wet blankets
Jamaica needs to honor people like Ms. Lewin, who made culturally significant changes to the society. I've never heard of her, but she should be in Jamaica's history books for her cultural contributions. Her home should also be preserved for antiquity.
Dr.Olive Lewin is actually honoured by Jamaica, she had the Order of Distinction. She also holds, among other honours, the Jamaica Music Industry Honour Award, an Award for Long and Meritorious Service to the Mico Teachers College, the Award for Excellence of the Munro and Dickenson Trust, and a Gold Musgrave Medal of the Institute of Jamaica. She passed away in 2013, so I don't think there was enough time to include her into our history books, but the main reason you might have not heard of her is because of the issues with the Jamaican media, who are more focused on crime stories and people involved in crime, rather than on people like Dr.Lewin.
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIEGreat response. The issue with Jamaica(n) is the mindset of some of its citizens (Too many) This mindset is what the media feeds? Ms Bruce... I would love a video on how or where Jamaicans develop 'this" mindset! (The negativity is what I'm referring to). I'm so tired of it. I would love to see and help it eradicated!
Obviously you are not Jamaican or educated there or didn't listen in your history class. Stop speaking about something you know nothing about as if Jamaica government don't recognized Dr Lewin which they have done.
@@KattahB People who are educated in Jamaica knows about Dr Olive Lewin but the young people rather retain slackness from dancehall culture than folk music which I grew up on. I remembered going to see Dr Lewin perform.
Thanks Irina, I learned a lot as usual. Despite the depth & breadth of your videos, everything is paced in a way that makes for effortless watching. I started learning about the market but ended up appreciating Olive Lewin whose name I'd heard but whose work I was less familiar with. The peek into Hyacinth McDonald's vision & struggles to realize the idea was also welcome.
Irina, I feel like everything you do is fabulous! Also, thanks for spreading the word about the night market. I wish Hyacinth, her team, and all the artisans continued success. I hope this grows and grows in popularity. They deserve it. It is definitely a diamond in the rough. I'll visit next time I am in Jamaica.
This is such an inspirational watch. One of my biggest fears as a non-artistic person is who is carrying on the Jamaican art and culture outside of the mainstream reggae music genre. Seeing Ms. Mcdonald’s drive and commitment to source a wide variety of Jamaican artists, culture, cuisine, and vibes is enlightening and uplifting.
This is absolutely wonderful. I'm very moved by this presentation. Living so far from home and so passionate about my culture this is very very refreshing for me and will make this a must see when I go home even as I'm definitely going to boast about this to others. I remember Miss Olive Lewin. I saw and experience first hand as a student in both primary and high school, some of the tremendous work she did with music and culture. Thank you, Irena.
I spent 4 weeks in Kingston this summer. The night market is great. I bpught clothing, jewellery, local honey and juice from Grab a Belch. Will definitely go back on my next trip
I want to see the vendors grow and expand their business. The products are all top-notch. The juice guys need to grow that business. I will definitely patronize his business.
Thank you, Irie, for your excellent presentation of our culture. I am super proud of my people and their work. Thank you, Aunty, for honoring Dr. Olive Lewin request. 🎉 Jamaica legacy lives on!
Irina, I felt immensely proud watching this...welling up big time :_)...I hope someone gives that 17 year old girl a scholarship! Thanks once again for such a wonderful feature 🙏 As always, your videos are of the highest order. Keep up the good work!
Lovely to hear that there is a weekly event that is promoting Brand Jamaica in the capital city. 😯👍👍 I will definitely check it out when I am back on the island. Thank for sharing. ❤😘
This is a great video highlighting Jamaican creative arts. I love the video and I have shared it with my daughter and friends. Great job Irina. I am looking forward to your next video. Well done.
Blessing irie showcasing another gem appreciative of how you present the different aspects of jamaica always with the positive essence of what it means to be jamaica thanks for doing what you do love and blessing always
Excellent coverage. Yes, KNM is a must for tourists and locaks alike. I especially love the vegan cocnut Ice Cream and I nation books. I firmly believe in supporting Jamaican artisans and cultural events such as this.
Irina this is another excellent video from you. I do like the professional way you do your videos. I hope next year when I visit Kingston I will get to see this night market. This is a very interesting video. Olive Lewin and the Jamaica Folk singers could possibly be a separate dedicated video as your little dabble in her history was interesting too. Many of those Jamaican artisans products seemed to be a better quality than many of what is sold to tourists on the North Coast. I will do my little part and send this video around so it they can get more exposure.
I MISS THIS SO MUCH. l use to attend so many arts and cultural events and to see this night market bring back memories of others events. Thank you Irina.. this was so much joy for me.
Brilliant content Irie, love all your published contents .... keep doing all that awesome work you're doing there in Jamaica 🇯🇲 we here in the diaspora love work .... blessings allways!!!
Jamaica is such a blessed country. Geographically, Historically, Spiritually, Musically etc. Even as a Brand, we are so prominent in other cultures hence “Out of Many, We are One.”
This was such a good watch, especially the parts about the legacy and work of Dr. Lewin. Thank you for amplifying this story in a way that's informative and the video production is great! Loved the questions you asked and what you chose to include in this video. Also, when the night market founder said not many tourists came out initially, I've been coming to Jamaica for years (and have family and friends there) and many people never knew about this. Hopefully the marketing and partnerships continue so that people know it exists and knows to visit when there. This is definitely helpful.
I was just in Jamaica after way too long been away, and I would have gone there if I had known... It's a beautiful setting and items displayed .. Thanks, (Irina) Jamaica Irie for presenting it to us ❤❤❤
I have a Japs Rasta friend named Usamu. He lives here in NYC, his wife is from Ghana. I have a lot of Japanese friends, they are very much into Reggie and Rastafari.
Thos is so awesome , watching makes me feel so proud. This brings back memories of my visit to Senegal 🇸🇳 Goree Island with all the craft market , great works by the peopleas well. However this is an event i would love to visit back home.
Excellent video. I didn't get to go to the night market on my last 2 visits but will definitely try to go next time. Your video brought back lovely memories of the games we used to play as children and the folk songs and dances. I see how relaxed people seem to be as they shop and take in the entertainment. I hope more sponsors come on board and that the nigh market is promoted even more. Thanks for making this video.
For anyone who thinks that Jamaica is not, well it is, you can replicate this island anywhere in the world. true - and many will miss out on shopping due to poverty.
Statement was great until politics was added. Remember, the politicians are elected/employed to work for the people of JA!
