Giant Wagon Wheel...made using a Giant Wagon Wheel

- It's happened again, it's another Giant food item that disappointingly, well, isn't giant! Wagon Wheels are a popular snack here in the UK and i'd imagine are available in some Countries or at least with a very different name. Marshmallow middle, wedged between a biscuit, drenched in chocolate coating. They also come in a jam variety, but I thought we'd match the ones in the tin and use the actual tin to make a proper giant wagon wheel! This was so fun to make!

Thats called a moonpie here in the states
@@chefash8769 I was just gonna say the same thing! They're more popular here in New England, I believe
Jaysus they've shrunk. They're like a third less of the size I remember them to be.
OMG I grew up on wagon wheels. The best ones were the ones that got accidently smooshed at the bottom of your book bag. LOL. I'm in Newfoundland Canada. Newfoundland was a British Colony until 1949 when we joined canada, so we have a lot of British food and sayings without the accent. We even watch coronation street. Hehe. We're directly right across the pond from you. Newfoundland was the first place to receive the distress signal from the Titanic. Our accent is a mix of french/English/scottish/indiginous/Portuguese. People find it hard to understand some of us. LOL. Sorry for the history lesson. 😜
Anyways, I've bought wagon wheels on Amazon a couple times, and they are definitely smaller. But just as YUM!
I thought Wagon Wheels were Aussie
It looks like Wagon wheels are just the same as the Moon Pies in the United States.
thats what i was thinking when i saw him cut it in half. It looks just like our moon pies.
Moon Pie?
What a time to be alive.
Yep. Moon pies were first created in 1917 while wagon wheels were “invented“ in 1948.
That’s what I was gonna say!!
Beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing.
"WOW these got small." True that. I still remember when you and Stuart did a snackathon video, and he related an anecdote about finding an 80s Wagon Wheel, which was noticeably larger than 2010s Wagon Wheels, in the cursed historical artifact that is the Brown Sofa.
Also, smart move with the darkmilk there. I remember that Cadbury used to do a blend of dark chocolate and milk chocolate that was pretty nice. I say "used to", but I don't know if they still do Darkmilk or if it's been discontinued.
...now that I think about it, Barry is basically the Professor Farnsworth of cooking.
*Barry Farnsworth:* "Good news, everyone! I've created a Moon Pie the size of a small dog!"
*Fry:* "Whoa, sweet! Why'd you make it?"
*Farnsworth:* "To show those fools at the Great British Bake-Off how it's REALLY done! If anyone wants me, I'll be in the Barry Dome!" *_[muffled Darft Punk muzak]_*
They still do darkmilk. Amazing chocolate!
@@gabeangel8104 They do?! *_L U S H_*
Funnily enough, Burton still deny they've changed in size, despite clear evidence to the contrary. The original wagon wheels were 41g in size. They are now 36g in size; A reduction in size of 13%.
Modern cookie tins are made from thin steel which won't melt at 160C. Even if it was made from tin, tin melts at 231C so it should still be fine. The paint might burn though so it's always good to be safe.
Great video as always!
I don't think melting was the main concern, but the coating and color burning off and contaminating the food.
I was thinking...they make round cake pans for a reason Barry.
The paint and low quality metal degassing into the food concerns me more than it ever getting hot enough to melt.
Can you make four and put it on a giant wagon?
Well, if the wagon was in proper proportion with Barry's wheel then it would actually be smaller than a normal wagon, let alone a giant wagon. Just sayin...
Gingerbread wagon (fully decorated) with giant wagon wheels wheels. Amazing
Heh, reminds me of when Rhett and Link put cheese wheels on a car.
Tesla Wagon now Elon has my idea to steal
In this episode, Barry takes the biscuit, starts a tinfoil craze conspiracy and puts his bottom on sticky marshmallow.
What more could you want?
This was great and I kinda wish I liked marshmallows so I could enjoy this myself.
Barry being worried about putting a tin container in the oven....doesn't think twice about throwing random things in a toaster & starting fires 🔥😂
Or using Breeze Blocks on the kitchen top.
I worked in Burtons a long time ago making wagon wheels. When they are new they are crispy and ice cold and nothing like the ones on sale. After working a night on wagon wheels I was always 3 inches taller from all the wheels that fell on the floor getting stuck to my trainers.
Every Aussie at 1:38: "there are ones without jam???"
Came here looking for some sort of comment mentioning this....I have never heard of a Wagon Wheel being jamless!!
Barry, your excitement never fails to put a smile on my face! Thank you!
In a new turn of event Mrs. Barry throws caution to the wind and says just do it while Barry is the one thinking safety first lol
They also have it in Canada
No reveal to the family, i love seeing their reactions to the large food stuffs you make
Barry, this was definitely one of your best! Well done.
Here in the USA we have Moon Pies. Similar in design and concept, but, super amazing.
OMFG ITS A MOONPIE I love Moonpies, but they’re from the southern US and I’ve moved up north. I’ll be looking for those in the British section of my grocery store.
My favorite series!
It looks like a chocolate Moon Pie. Those are delicious.
I bake in tins all the time, I’ve even baked in a heavy cardboard tray too. I figured if companies can mass produce cakes for Sam’s club and the grocery’s stores, in large cardboard sheet cakes it must work. It does! Just parchment line bottom and sides, they bake beautifully!
This was a really entertaining video, it had everything I like about you and your content in it.
Apart from the family taste test at the end. 👍
we got those ober in usa they are basically Moon Pies omg so good
Great job, Barry xx
Oh, wow! We have something similar called Moon Pies here in the States!
For sure my kind of treat! Ive always loved chocolate and marshmallow together.
love wagon wheels with jam
wow great job I love wagon wheels yum
Mega! Epic! Superb! Bostyn! Brilliant video.
So a wagon wheel is like a moon pie? Thanks for sharing your video. So fun.
I said the same thing, I love banana moonpies
@@dragonmouse72 banana moon pies are the best!
Amazing! 🥰 Really enjoyed this 😊
We have wagon wheels in canada, one of my fav. But ours are a little different, made with more of a cake instead.
The jam ones are the best.
That is a "Moon Pie" here in the US. Great Job!
Wayhay! I was wondering when you'd do your next giant food video! Good to see you Barry 😁
I've asked this Before but the Old school caramac's you get here in the Uk I'd love to see you do a Gaint one of those!
Oh mate...you are my hero that looks so gooood
I love how happy he is for what he has made =) I used to love eating wagon wheel before I found out I was allergic to chocolate, normal and ones with Jam in but now a days it barely has any Jam in it so i should get all a normal lol
Good old wagon wheels, in Australia they have a jam layer with the marshmallow bit, yum!
Aah, a Moon Pie. Delicious.
At 10:50 I was expecting your ‘space vibe anticipation and suspense music’ and at 10:54 I was not disappointed!
That's pretty awesome!
Aluminum is the original spelling and pronunciation of the element, but on the advice of a colleague the the scientist who discovered it changed the name in order to make it sound more Latin.
The original name is was used interchangeably with it whilst the element was still hard to manufacture and obscure.
Once it entered the common lexicon the Aluminum name stuck in America due to Noah Webster, of Webster's dictionary, favored the spelling.
The rest of the world tended to favor the -ium spelling.
In 1920 the American chemical society officially took the Aluminum name for the element, cementing the spelling and pronunciation.
Your wheel looks so yummy
Awesome wagon wheel Barry Lewis
I just ate but this is making me hungry😉
We buy the little ones for the kids lunch boxes for treat time 😁 I’d buy the bigger ones at the milk bar in the 80’s 😁😁
Genuine question and not in any way like trying to judge but is it safe to cook in those types of tins? I wonder if the paint and all that on them is safe to reach the temps the oven takes it to.
Definitely not safe, lol. Don't cook in random painted tins. Who knows what they have painted it with.
We have something similar in the US. We call them Moon Pies.
We have similar things in the US called Moon Pies. They have a ton more marshmallow in them and I think just one cookie/biscuit bit though. Have you ever put them in the microwave to get the marshmallow all gooey? I highly recommend it!
Do moon pies also have an option with jam inside?
@@Jess-bk4ts I don't think they do, but that's a cool idea! Or maybe something like dulce de leche caramel? Yum!
Yummy love wagon wheels shame they are so small
2:55 Actually, in baking sugar is considered a "wet" ingredient, despite being a granular solid like flour! Because you add it in with all the other wet/liquid ingredients, rather than into the flour and the other dry ingrediends.
It depends on what you're making. In some recipes, sugar is a wet ingredient, in others it's a dry ingredient.
I like that it's definitely bigger but still a manageable, edible size with a similar ratio to the original.
It's a "Moon Pie". Here in the U.S. at least that's what they're called.
That's what I was thinking. I wonder how close they are taste wise?
I was thinking the same thing
Moon pie? What a time to be alive
@@crystalm7732 I know right?
Reminds me of a Moon Pie you get here. Looks like exactly the same thing.
Moon Pie invented 1917...Wagon Wheel invented 1948. Said the Wagon Wheel features a similar profile to the Moon Pie. Interesting 🤔.
Did....did you not just have round cake pans to use instead of the tin?
that's so cool barry
that looks yummy, wanted to see the girls try it at the end though
I live in Georgia in the US in US southern people called those moon pies I can't wait to show my friends this video they will crack up. Here in the South while growing up the best treat you would ever get would be a Moon pie and an RC cola. 😍🌻✌💖💪👨🍳🎅🚌👍
Fellow Georgian here 👋
@@brandyfreeman4098 I used to work for pofolks as a manager and we sold moon pies, Goo goo clusters an RC cola I love them almost every night while doing paperwork I would have an RC cola and a moon pie or cluster. I'm retired now I live in Roswell GA
@@Chefsantatravels , ahhh, the good old days, right? I live about 30mins south of Atlanta in a small town called Senoia. If you're a Walking Dead fan you probably know the town, lol.
@@brandyfreeman4098 I heard about your town.
Aluminum = American/Canadian English. Aluminium = every where else.
I was taught to spell it Aluminium, pronounced as "American/Canadian" as you'd except though. (Rural East Coast) I swear the spelling changed sometime around the 2000s like for some marketing reasons.
Aluminum = what the discoverer of the metal called it. Aluminium = what some stodgy British people decided to call it for no good reason other than it sounds stodgier.
@@tmf866 Laurence Brown covered this in one of his videos. And the discoverer was a Brit who spelled it aluminum.
@@tmf866 technically, aluminium matches better to what some other metals end with, so that is what scientists officially agree on. (Titanium, magnesium, gallium, lithium, cadmium, sodium, cesium, etc.)
Loved the video…that being said, wrapping steel in aluminum to raise it’s melting point? Btw, 2,750 degrees Fahrenheit (1,500 Celsius). Wagon wheel…Definitely one of your best recreations!
Australian wagon wheels have a green and yellow wrapping and they come with jam. ❤
In the U.S. in the south, these are called "moon pies". I used to love them as a kid.
Barry, if you form the foil around the outside of your pan or dish first and then put it on the inside you will have a much better shape with no distortions or large wrinkles and it will fit very snugly
In America we have moon pies basically the same snack. The tin would have been ok. The paint probably would have been an issues. Probably not high heat paint
Looks similar to a 'moon pie' in america
We have Moon Pies in the US, kinda of the same but more cake texture than biscuit like yours
In Australia Ive never seen a plain wagon wheel only ever jam ones
We have something similar in america. They're called moonpies. They have a single like the one you made and a triple decker
I see those at our local Dollar Tree, but not that brand. We have the ones called Moon Pies.
we got them here in australia, but its a yellow wrapper and yours looks a bit thicker than ours, and yes, they have gotten smaller compared to decades ago.
I didn't realize until he started putting it all together, but there's something really similar to this in America called Moon Pies
Yup. I was wondering if anyone else was going mention moonpies.
Your Wagon Wheel looks like a Moon Pie I actually had to go into my kitchen and grab one just to do a quick compare
In Malaysia, we have the similar thing, we call it the Cocopie. The difference is that the biscuit is much more larger, kinda like a macaron, in the size of a York's Peppermint Patty.
I was watching a baking video a few days ago & the person cooking said sugar is actually a wet ingredient because it will liquify. Never dawned on me before but that makes perfect sense
I miss Wagon Wheels. Back in my day, here in Canada, they used to be like 3 & 1/2 to 4 inches in diameter. Now they're, what? 2 and a half? :(
We have something similar in the U.S. we call them Moon pies. Very tasty. 🥰
So, a moon pie. By American products. We have chocolate, vanilla and banana flavors.
I’m so old, I remember when they came in gold foil wrappers. And they were MUCH bigger
I would love to see a giant malted milk biscuit as I really love them dunked in hot or cold milk. And would love to try to make my own little ones.
I think those are called moon pies here in America.
Oh. My. Word! I need this!
So, this is what we call Moon Pie®.
Ah wagon wheels! I haven't had one of those since I left England 25 years ago. I think here in the states they call them moon pies. I haven't had a moon pie though. I don't think I've ever seen them at my local shop. I think they might be more popular based on the part of the country you live in.
We call those moon pies where I live.
have you seen the orange flavoured ones? local farm foods are selling them
We have Wagon Wheels in Australia But we also have some Jam inside and we have them in 8 packet also you can get large ones But they cost and Arm and a Leg to buy. BUT YUMMMMM
Get yourself someone who looks at you the way Barry looked at the wagon wheel when it came out of the tin 🤣
That looks good.
Wagon wheels only come with jam and they're tiny over here in Australia too.
Did wagon wheels no used to be massive? Like obviously no the size of your one, but I always go back to the French and Saunders sketch when I hink about them.
They were noticeably bigger, you could say they looked like the wheels from a wagon.
Closest thing in America is a moon pie. They have much more marshmallow though.
Would love to go to a cafe where they sold slices of giant wagon wheel (and other giant foods).
Look out Moonpie. 😄
They look just like moonpies. I don't know if you have them in the UK.
"Wow, these got small..."
Yep smaller and most likely still the same price , if not more expensive.
Smaller and yet now called Giant 🤦🏻♀️🙄
Smaller and not even as tasty 😪
They have gotten really small they use to be twice the size they are now.
It's the same as a moonpie from the southern states of the USA
Here in the states, we call that a Moon Pie.
In the USA we call those moon pies.
Barry: *wraps a biscuit tin in foil and lines with parchment*
Literally any springform cake tin: am i a joke to you?
Thats what you should get in the tin a wagon wheel cake.
I just think you got bigger Barry....😅 Big fan i love this channel. ✌
I remember the toffee ones. They were so nice
