Jazzy Jeff is one of if not the best DJ to ever do this ish.
The reason why it was DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince is because Jeff had the name recognition in the streets of Philly and beyond. It was his group. He chose Will because he wanted his music to appeal to a wider audience. He wanted to make music that kids, teens and parents could all enjoy. He could have picked from a handful of 10 to 20 other MC's in Philly that was ripping people's heads off but he saw that Will, like a good DJ, could rip people's head off in a battle and then motivate people to dance and have fun.

When people don't know about Jeff and how it was going down then what they are really telling me is they don't know jack about Hip Hop.

Jazzy Jeff is so raw to me.
I'm from Philly & in my 40's. Let me explain: back home before records in the early 80's, DJ Jazzy Jeff was like Lebron James in high school: everyone knew he would be legendary. And like Lebron he didn't disappoint with hit records, incredible shows, massive DJ awards and loyal fanbase. It's no mystery he is still Magnificent and truly one of the coolest cats you could meet.

Like some have said, respect Jazzy Jeff because he is a legend and a real DJ. I'm the first one to crack on people like Will Smith but he came through an era where you HAD to have skills in order to make it so he has SKILLS but watered it down to sell records. The LOX and Mase did the same thing to sign with Bad Boy. Before they signed, they were a lot more hardcore (of course we know The Lox went to Ruff Ryders and went back hardcore).
Sucker DJ's was a record by Dimples D and Marley Marl in the 1980's. Search for it.
What MOST people dont know is that back in the day, Jeff used to spin at clubs all over Philly. One club, located at Broad and Dauphin called, Club New Tech, was THE spot. In fact, many rap battles went down there and Will, before he was the Fresh Prince, used to BODY cats. Uckf what ya' heard, Will was LETHAL on the mic and Jeff was surgical on the wheels. I ain't never really feel all the commercial bullshit, but I have great memories from their underground days.
Without DJ Jazzy Jeff Will Smith wouldn't have made it in the music industry.

there are 2 types of dj's djs that scratch and djs that mix now tbh people say scratching is harder than mixing it actually isn't mixing is a hard act to do all these mediocre mixes u here from people who really cannot tell a story with a mix or people that cannot mix in key need to do their homework there is an art to mixing it is an art I hate hearing pre recorded sets and fake sucker djs I agree with what dj jazzy jeff is saying he is an awesome scratch dj no doubt about it u know ur a good dj if u can pull off epic mixes create a mood and walk away from your decks go 4 a piss and it still sound okay
Proper scratching is way more complicated than mixing.
