Just learning how to DJ while in Antarctica. Your videos have provided so many tips and tricks, it has made me a favorite here. I love the long echo effect want to try it out at the next dance party.
The phase half note trick is called “chopping” and was invented by dj screw. Hence “screwed and chopped” - swishahouse and such. It’s setting an identical track one quarter note ahead of the main track. Then using the crossfader to chop back and forth. For that extra Texas sauce, add flanger fx too. Love your videos Carlo, just wanted to add that little tidbit
Nah man, that’s DEFINITELY NOT a technique invented by DJ Screw. That’s an OLD technique actually called “flashing” or “chasing” by some DJs. That style has been done since Grandmaster Flash made it popular in the late 70s.
@@rbiznezz2 oh gotcha ok. Good to know. It was popularized by dj screw though, hence the term “screwed and chopped,” which is what we call it nowadays. Always points back to The Godfather’s of scratching though, I hear that.
These are well-edited mixes that cater to beginner, intermediate, and advanced DJs. Thanks! If you can do another video on another top DJ's mixing techniques, that would be great.
Very well done! I've been listening to Jeff mix since 1984 on the many mix tapes he had out in Philly. I've always believed he is ambidextrous because his cuts and scratches have always been so precise on either turntable. After Lighting Rich introduced the Transformer Scratch and Cash Money perfected it, there was a rumor in West Philly that Jeff couldn’t Transform. By this time, Jeff was with Will Smith and I got ahold of a mix tape where Jeff did the Rock The Bells routine. He killed it! Now, I'm going to say this, and it's just my opinion. Jeff did his Rock The Bells routine BEFORE DJ Bobcat did "Go Cut Creator Go." (1987) If you've every heard the end of "Go Cut Creator Go," you'll know what I'm talking about, but I'm just saying...
Thank you Rodney for setting the record straight about the history behind the transformer scratch. I don’t believe many DJ’s even know who Lightning Rich is as far as the community is concerned. I give you huge props to Cash Money. He’s definitely is one of my all time favorite DJ’s.
Really like this vid!! 🎷🎷 My favorite things from Jazzy Jeff have been his "Peter Piper" routine, and the scratches that he did at the end of "From Da South" with The Fresh Prince. He's got an awesome touch!!

“Go Cut Creator Go” was crazy. DJ Bobcat was actually the one scratching on that song. Most of the cuts were stabs though, not as much transforming (it was great when he did transform though!)
Awesome video as always - both the loop blending transition and the off beat phase trick accent effect look like fun and exciting skills that I will start practicing. Thank you for all that you do in setting up future generations of DJ for success. 🎷💜✨

DJ Carlo Atendido, you could stay in Philly with1988 DMC Champion DJ Cash Money. In my humble opinion, DJ Jazzy Jeff is an awesome turntablist! But DJ Cash Money is the best, to me. Am a beginner DJ from Uganda I would like to know the way u bring in songs in a good way
Thanks bud! It's all in the practice! Keep practicing, and you'll work your way up towards there!
DJ Carlo thank you so much for your videos. I have long loved JazzyJeff and this helped breakdown his incredible moves. One question I have is I recently upgraded to xdjrx3 and am trying to edit the echo settings for the best results of the tutorial. Since I’m not using a laptop or software …I don’t know how to change those! Any help is greatly appreciated.
No worries! Just increase the Dry/Wet Knob to the max! and work from there
Can you cover DJ Puffy next?
I'll keep Puffy in mind for a future breakdown Saint!
