      2:11 is misleading, at lease in my experience, used the ns7 as well as rane 12s and neither skip under virbration, there is tecnically nothing to skip since there is no needle, not only that but now with the DVS phase system turntables no longer skip as well

    Carlo, long time watcher, I really appreciate seeing an entirely different approach to DJing. While you focus more on scratching and very impressive transitions, the way I was trained was more of a subtle "pick the right song and let the crowd vibe" style. I wonder if there is a potential video idea about different schools of thought on how to construct a dj set?

    • @djcarlo

    First of all, thank you for posting your sets and tips for DJs with different equipment and styles. I'm old school from the 80s, and I love the feel and control I have with vinyl. I grew up beat matching vinyl, but now I use Serato and turntables with Phase wireless controllers. This set up has changed my life!! I worked an outdoor gig last week that was pretty windy with no issues. But that works for me. I agree with other comments that everyone is different and you should find what works for you. Keep posting more videos brother. Love the content.

New technology will always help make your gigs easier (turntables in the wind in the 80s? Say goodbye to your needles haha). Thanks for the kind words bud, and I'll keep making good stuff with this kind of support!

      @@thecreepysilence4290 That's great for Techno fans, but a lot of the world doesn't listen to Techno, or any sort of EDM. For the type of music I like it can't really be done in a live performance way. At least not more than very rare to change shit up. I have an MPC One and can whip up some spontanous boom bap beats for a live performance, but that's much better suited for people like you who do EDM style music. Even tho I don't like that kind of music, I can appericate seeing someone who's good at improvising and creating live EDM on the spot. Just like I can appericate a DJ like Q Bert or Babu doing some crazy turntable shit.
      If you're a good EDM DJ you can get huge gigs and make big bucks. If you're a hip-hop DJ and tried to do everything live and create music on the spot, pretty sure you'd go broke lol.

    Really nice outlook!!! I used to swear that working with 1200’s were what needs to be used at all times…but since the jog wheels came out, it actually makes things better because of the non-skip matter, which means something to me, I would love some motorized platters like the Rane MK12’s RaneOne, Rev7 to work with and of course the OG 1200’s (but for my room). With the new technology I can appreciate it, and respect to Carlo for rockin them with ease (well, it did take some practicing to get where he’s at)
    I’m good with the jog wheels for the time being. I’m eager to learn all I can to get to the next level.

    Am I missing something, numark ns series has been around for a while. They always seem to get overlooked. As someone who started mixing on soundlab belt drive decks in the early 2000s, the movement was a nice visual aid whilst mixing, I've upgraded to dj controllers since but the first was a numark omni, something about the jog wheels not moving always bugged me, went back to technics 1210s then tried the pioneer ddjsr and again the platters not moving seemed odd, now using numark ns7 3 and despite never having to change the "record" there is something refreshing about still being able to physically slow down/speed up/backspin/scratch the track as opposed to "bumping" it to speed, and the interaction with the platter feels more natural, maybe I'm just too stuck in my ways but being an original vinyl dj the feel for me is everything.

    Yep!! Couldn't have said better. I agreed with everything you said. I started with turntables myself in the early 80's but I quickly adapted to the CD jog wheels when they first came out. Too much fanboyism going around. New or old technology, it's all good. Just find what works best for you and that is the best for you. I got the SC5000M's when they came out so going to the SC6000M's doesn't make sense for me. At some point I will be getting the Rane one's. I'm also currently using the Technics SL-DZ1200 with DVS. Hi DJ Carlos, In truth, the equipment does not make the DJ, but the quality of the components really weighs and costs. I'm Dominican, and in my country everyone uses Pioneer CDJ, otherwise other DJs don't take you seriously or say you're not professional, but the equipment is extremely expensive. At NAMM a few years ago, I saw the DENON SC5000 and fell in love, but I had my doubts, maybe because the electronic components were not of good quality and because "always, a good DJ should use Pioneer DJ". I dared to buy some Denon SC5000 and I swear I won't change them, that Dual Layer thing and putting my music in Dropbox is fantastic. I would like some 🤤SC6000, but I have no money 😅. I really don't think I'll ever use CDJs again.

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  2 года назад +1

      The same thing happens in The Philippines Pig-C! Pioneer is the standard here, and some do have the same point of view on equipment, but I have to admit, Denon is making some absolutely amazing equipment, and others like Hercules & Numark are seriously diversifying the controller game.

      @@djcarlo buts thats things, its chapter is titled "Problems with motorized platters" and the whole video is about controlloers with moving platters, and for you to mention that they skip, when they dont, is misleading, borderline flat out lie. . they dont, i watched this part again and you dont mention that only turntables have this issue, meanwhile this videos is not even about turntables. . to people who dont understand the difference you just stifled thousands of sales since they will watch your video. . . . 2:27 """so motorized moving platters are bit unsafe to use in trouble some enviroments" This is just not true, Im kinda disapointed in this video man. . for the first time the industry is trying to move to motorize platters as a whole [tracktor pioneer, rane, denon] [ i know its been arround longer than that, BUT pioneer never jumped on board before and that shows a shift in the industry. . and your speaking against with misleading info will defintiley put a hurting on it , your reach is huge in the industry and likley will shape the future. not only that but to say there more expensize, this really not a far statement because all pro level controllers are expensize and ussually run in the low to mid thousand, mark only entry level units are afforable. . so yes they cost more but not all that much more. . here is my last and biggest gripe , moving platters inspire turntablism. jog wheels do not, yes with much practice as you pointed out you can emulate certain turntable tricks BUT you have to try as opposed to it just coming natural to the machine, This is why turntablism has more or less died . if you learn and grow on a controller you will never learn turntablism This is why all jog controller djs dont really practice or learn it. . , BUT IF YOU learn on moving platters, turntabliusm comes naturally with your progression in learning will come your progression in turntablism. . , I would guess that 70-90% or more of jog wheel users do not practice any sort of turntablism. you have go out of your way to emulate these technics. . and it seems unless you learned them on a turntable and then try it on a controllers its impossible for most to try it on a controller

    As an amateur who has been mixing and using multiple choices, i have had 4 plates, 2 akiyama 2000, 1 acura and 1 technics, 1 controller and now im using cdj with mixer, first thing, technics is waaaaaaaaaay better than any of these, with the acura you can manipulate the pitch and the speed to the netx leve (33/45/78 rpm) and pitch +/10/20/50. so for manipulating the song its cool but you wont use this unless you really want to be a battle dj (in my opinion). motorized jog wheels/platters its very cool but only if you dont want to spend 2k in a really good battle mixer plus 2 turntables (cartridges or phase will increase the budget to 300 $/€)(2k +300+ 1200 its a lot)
    So if you want to start djing and dont care about scratch-> go for not motorized
    if you are a dj and dont care about scratch and want to improve ur set up, same option but if you want to feel the vinyl and dont want to spend a lot go for a motorized controller. if you want to spend a lot of money go for all xD

    Vast majority is a manner of perspective. When I began Dj'ing there were no ready made digital controllers. The few that were working off synths and keyboards alone at the time (closest comparison at the time) are now legends. When they started coming out the "vast majority" tended to see those fledgling controller setups as something of a gimmick and those using them as not being serious or "real" DJs. Times clearly change. I came up learning on turntables so a motorized controller feels incredibly comfortable given how familiar beatmatching via rpm control was a must have skill. Coming from that far back, I always get a laugh out of what people see as serious equipment/skills these days. As you've pointed out Carlo, how you put on the show and the rig you use is far less important than the quality of the show you put out. I imagine a digital rig, no motor, is great for most these days but a cat like me still loves his tables and anything that can bring that feel. Current setup is 2xTechnics, DDJ1000-SRT, best of both worlds for me.

    I think it's not-so-much a "feel" as CDJs & other multiplayers have some weight added to the jogwheel but rather that multiplayers have feedback and resistance when moving the platter. Personally, I don't know why anyone would want a motorised platter pushing back and resisting as you're trying to manipulate it and get it beat. Also, motorization adds other component to break and/or burnout easily, as anything kinetic will.

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  2 года назад +1

      I.....can't. Because it won't arrive in The Philippines for another 2ish months, so I haven't had the chance to touch one yet.

    As a DJ for 30 years I have to have the best of both worlds. Moving Platters SC5000M & SC600M. How time has revolved since 1987 (putting nickel/penny on the needle to keep it from skipping LoL!) coming from "WAX" to CD's to now Media players it brings you backwash all the features from then to now. !!! Enough Said to those Push Button DJ who only have 1 style !!!!!

      Funny how it's come full circle, huh? I actually still did that coin-on-the-needle trick when I was starting out on my 1200s!

      @@djcarlo LoL I used to have the ol Technics belt driven turntables then got to Germany in 1987 and purchased my 1st 1210's and still put the coin on the needle til I got use to it. Too funny :)
