We must have missed you by a day or two! We go up every April for Sturgeon and have an absolute blast. Our boat had a hot day with 14 fish totalling over 57 ft of fish in the boat, 2 being 65". Thanks for doing the catch and cook on one. We talk about it every year but we haven't done it mostly because of how cool of a fish they are.
It is not for everyone because you're waiting for the fish to come to you and not hunting the fish, but I love fishing from the bank of the North Saskatchewan River near Edmonton for these monsters. The biggest I have gotten was around 60", and at least 40lbs. I add some scent to the gob of nightcrawlers to help the Sturgeon locate my bait, the scent leaves a trail down the river. Very cool watching this episode, and hell of a job doing it from kayaks! Cheers fellas
I caught a legal slot fish a couple years ago in Michigan. I cut up fish nuggets, roll in drakes with Cajun seasoning mixed in. Pan fry until golden brown.
such a Canadian ending...lol thanks for cooking, thanks for cooking, thanks for catching, thanks for coming. you guys make watching fishing as good as going fishing
We catch gobs of these monsters every year on the St Clair River. Biggest I've seen put on the Algonac boardwalk was 84". Beastly. 25 minute fight on 12' Ugly stiks running 40-60 lb test braid.
I was up on snare lake with a fly in trip , and fished the ground hog river, caught some nice ones but nothing over 42, great video , glad season three has started.
where I live in canada it's unlimited sturgeon closed only for the month of June but the fish has to be a minimum of 130cm/approx 51 inches and not max size limit so I'm excited to be going for them once I finish getting the rest of my setup
American white pelicans. Rare, except for in certain places. I see them in the outer banks when I go there for the commercial flounder season. Beautiful.
Caught some 3 and 4 footers all within an hour of wisconsin river just last week! It was insanity. Slider weight and octopus hooks with night crawlers will do it. Been to the same spot and used the same rig but cut bait and caught tons of catfish, but the worms are the only thing a sturgeon will take
As a local of the area I do agree you need to come check it out one trip in the open water and one on the hard water minimum so you can get a full experience
Just gets me amped up to go out on the water. Headed up to Lake Athapapuskow for the July long weekend. Won't get sturgeons but hopefully some monster lake trout. I'll try to catch some walleye and make those fish dumplings like on a previous Jay video. Trying out Neso Lodge for the first time and looking forward to it. Your videos are great Jay!
We most definitely have Catch and keep sturgeon here on the east coast of Canada. 140cm minimum, no limit, both Atlantic and Shortnose in the Saint John River in New Brunswich. Been fishing them my whole life. Most of us who target them rarely keep them. I try not to keep more than two a year.
@@JacksonQDavis1993 if you go into some of the restaurants and museums scattered along the gorge, you'll find pictures of 20 footers from before the dams went in.
Your lake sturgeon look a lot like our white sturgeon and I would imagine they taste the same which is delicious. You should come out west to the Columbia or if you want to stay in Canada, the Fraser and fish for white sturgeon.
It's even more incredible when you take into account that the Rainy River sturgeon has claim as one of the most successful wildlife restoration projects in the US
Hey people! I just recently started RUclips and uploaded my first few videos, more to come. If you like outdoors, fishing and camping videos, you might wanna give it a try. Thank you so much and have good one!
Such a fun trip!!!
More Ca Angle pls
Great work Jay! You’re the best
Sweet video bud!

I caught my first sturgeon in the north sask river this spring, very cool fish! This series is one of my favorites on RUclips!

Best stuff on the channel.
They have balls of steel fishing for sturgeon on kayaks.
Lol I do the same for muskie it's a ride of a lifetime
Maybe so, but it was so cold that my balls had retreated into my body cavity.
So stoked to see Josh in this
Looked like fun time
such a Canadian ending...lol
thanks for cooking, thanks for cooking, thanks for catching, thanks for coming.
you guys make watching fishing as good as going fishing
jay is the best!
Bucket list fish for sure!
Kinda cool to see I was a winter guide as a kid at border view and grew up running the banks of the river a few miles in from LOWS
That’s incredible. We caught 13 this year and I’ve always thought it would be awesome to catch one in a kayak. This might be the inspiration I needed!
Always love the Canadian angle videos 🎣
I yak fished the Fall shiner run for walleye in 2012 and did quite well. The guys at the resort was wishing I would have hooked into a Stugeon.
Petri 😊 Wonderful fishing content, thx guys!
Wow what a fish... amazing stuff....we got some great stuff here in Canada...proud of my country 💯❤️🙏
Nice to see this series back :)
Those are cute little sturgeon
Name a better duo than Jay Siemens and MeatEater… I’ll wait!
My buddy and his family put up that fly up last year when we were up sturgeon fishing! Glad to see it still flyin!
Really happy you are on board with Meateater making this great, interesting content.

Looking at trying the Detroit river, I hear some monsters cleaning themselves at nite on the channel banks, how deep are u fishing there? cheers

Lots of fun!!! Sturgeon kayak fishing is popular here in New Brunswick. Almost catching up to fly fishing for trout & salmon.
Great fishing trip and video.
Great show! Jay Siemens always makes exceptionally good shows!
My sister moved near kapiscasing Ontario, she caught a sturgeon last week , crazy !
What body of water
It's crazy watching a video that happened where I fish and seeing places I've been. The crooked docks of Rainy river!
Wild to see you up there and recognize the area. Looking forward to getting back up that way and catch some eyes soon
Great Stuff again Jay
Way to go Meateater with a Gresh water meal very few get to eat here in AMERICA

So glad you brought on a camera man.
Awesome stuff bud! On my bucket list for sure! Maybe not the kayak thing but you know what I mean…ha
What a great trip…love this! Thanks for sharing this exciting event! 😎😁

So jealous. Lol. I’d love to live or even travel to lake of the woods.
A true outdoorsman’s paradise.

Is it just me or at 2.19 does that island look like a pike awesome video man
Decent episode
We have white sturgeon in Oregon and they’re delicious anyway you cook them.
wow never heard of fishing for sturegon on a kayak
Calab with outdoor chef life.
Bring back “pardon my plate”
That looked delicious man
That’s unreal you are fishing sturgeon I have literally been trying to catch sturgeon just the last few days
Sturgmergency! 👍👌
Fenomenal 👍👍👍
Stergeon and Schmaundt Fat 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
If you can't tie knots, tie lots. Glad I'm not the only one.
Come fish NewBrunswick we get some
Monster sturgeon
It’s a toboggan to me.
Come to BC for white sturgeon where we mesure in feet
That poor traumatized frog. Its going to go home and say he was abducted and ohhh the humanity its too much LOL
went to that area last summer. they take party boats out to big waters and drag live baits for walleye. had no idea those were in the river dammit!
We spear sturgeon on lake Winnebago! I am not a fan of smoked fish. So best way I have had it is deep fried! Going to have to try pan fry next.
Let's go! Bucket list trip
Tooks, that's what we call them in central NYS.
Living on the columbia river in Oregon, my personal best white sturgeon is 16ft. Being Canadian you should go fish the Frasier river in bc.
I always hear stories of 16-18 footers but have yet to see a picture of one.
@@JacksonQDavis1993 if you go into some of the restaurants and museums scattered along the gorge, you'll find pictures of 20 footers from before the dams went in.
Joshua Davis yeah pre dams. Not post and even then they were few and far between. I fish the Dalles area often for oversize.
try one of the finger lakes in upstate NY
Your lake sturgeon look a lot like our white sturgeon and I would imagine they taste the same which is delicious. You should come out west to the Columbia or if you want to stay in Canada, the Fraser and fish for white sturgeon.
Here in California we use grass shrimp.
When I go fishing on the rainy for wallets every once a while I will catch a sturgeon
Wild! Can’t believe you can kill sturgeon there! Great vid.
It's even more incredible when you take into account that the Rainy River sturgeon has claim as one of the most successful wildlife restoration projects in the US
Young sturgeon having sharper scoots makes you wonder how that felt scooting outta the birth canal
Eggs.. they lay 2 million eggs a year. They don’t come out a birth canal. Lil
Great video! If only the sturgeon was bled, it would’ve cut up a lot cleaner. 🤘
Steak the tail and season with salt and pepper, olive oil and BBQ.

Just realized if Clay is Meateater South, Jay must be Meateater north.
Should pull the rod at a little different angle i belive. Try going little bit more upwards
How did you get rid of the usual 300 boats there?lol
Dá hora
whats the rod and reel setup brand and model is was you guys using?
Whatever happened to uncut angling?
Joe Cermele and Jay Siemens episode?
Ok smoking can be a bludgeon…just as a pan sauce can.
What kayaks are you using?
Ryan is in the Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 136, Jay is in the Old Town Sportsman PDL 120
What model of old town sportsman is that pedal model?
Old Town Sportsman PDL 120
Katchup chips
If you’re fishing for sturgeon in Canada and you’re not in BC, you’re doing it wrong.
Is it really kayaking if you have a 10k trolling motor with spot lock and another 10k in sonar... lol
