    If Alan Henderson doesn't blowout his knee, this team wins the NCAA Championship. Also, if Pat Graham doesn't break his foot again, this team might have went undefeated. They were that good. They had nine players who could get 20 on any given night. And, Cheaney was money every night. But, injuries. The killer of many great teams in all sports.

      Absolutely. Best IU team since the '76 undefeated team (yes, even better than the '81 and '87 teams... and they both won NCAA championships.)

    What I loved about this team was that in college basketball, some teams will play physical and intimidate you...if you tried to play that way against this team they did not shy away from it and played you just as tough on every play!

    Unbelievable team. The Henderson injury should go down as one of the most costly injuries in IU history, right there with Scott Mays broken arm.

    The last vintage IU team--25 friggin' years ago, soon to be 26. That was a GREAT team though, better than some that won the National Championship. Ran into Kansas playing & shooting out of their asses in the elite 8, plus we just weren't the same after Henderson hurt his knee.

  • @MrHoosierDude

    Some injuries can change outcomes and Alan Henderson's knee injury is a case in point. During his 4 years at IU, the team was winning when he was in the game. His absence in the Regional Finals against Kansas very well could have brought a victory to IU. He was that valuable.

    This team has 3 of IU'S all time leading scorers and you failed to mention the 3rd one. This 3rd one is also in the top 5 all time assist leaders and in the top 10 all time steals category.

    This takes me back to my childhood 15-20 years ago. The public library in Bloomington had a copy of this video for viewing in the audio visual rooms. I probably watched it a dozen times in there. I missed this team live by a few years as I was to young but saw the recap of the season on this video man times.

      Yeah I'm much older than you & I can tell you this was a truly great team that absolutely had NC potential. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a team anywhere near this good at IU since then. If you had told me that would be the case back then, I would have jumped off a bridge, or the quarries in Smithville--headfirst.

    As a KU fan, there are 2 things criminal regarding this IU team: 1. That they didn't win the National Championship. They were clearly the best team that year (17-1 in the Big 10 with their only loss in OT to OSU; the last 9 weeks of the season they were either #1 or 2, including the final AP poll at #1) and they had clearly the best player that year in Cheney (Naismith player of the year). If Henderson didn't get hurt, they would have won the title. 2. I've seen tons of lists of the greatest college basketball teams who didn't win a title and this team is never on those lists, yet the Michigan team from that year always is. IU beat that Michigan team twice! This IU team was LOADED!

  • @CoreyT127
    @CoreyT127 6 лет назад +1

    This team was better than the 87 team! If not for injuries, especially Henderson's they play Michigan and beat them a 3rd time in then championship game!

  • @rawn4203

    Tjhose 91-93 IU teams were probably the best 3 year stretch in IU history. KU prevented them from the FF in 91 and 93, and Dook in the final 4 was the true championship game as well. IU was the only team that could stay on the court with Dook in 92.

      When they brought him back on the floor recently all the wonderful memories of excellence came back. All those IU legends and the guy who made them that way. I miss those times. The younger crowd don’t quite understand and it’s no use trying to explain it. The game is not the same and I still hope for some sort of excellence at IU, but the past was better. More pure and more exciting. Allegiances no long exist between player and school or school and coach. At least I have the memories.
