Never seen the pod before but big Karnivool fan and came here from the instagram post. So cool to hear such a long conversation with this absolute legend I've admired for so long! Thanks for that! Please interview the rest of the band members if you can 😊
Random fact about Steve Judd: his wallet is approximately 4 inches thick! Not that it’s loaded with cash per se, but like he probably has 15 cards that expired ages ago and never got around to tossing them when the new ones came in, and every receipt he’s ever gotten. Quick slightly embarrassing story. I went to see Karnivool in around 2009 and they played at a Chicago suburb. I was at the bar before the show and noticed the guy next to me had his wallet on the bar with his back turned to it. I stepped around more in front of him and said “hey, I’m sorry to bother you, but is that your wallet? I’m afraid someone’s going to walk off with it.” To which he said “oh, yeah thanks” with an Aussie accent. I didn’t realize until he went on stage that I had just talked to my all-time favorite drummer. I would have told him he’s awesome. Instead just I said hey dumbass, don’t leave your wallet on the bar, idiot.
The part about Steve not taking lessons, and Craig calling it out, was extremely illuminating. I feel like the reason all these amazing prog drummers came from a background of no lessons is because lessons establish rules and place you in a box of right and wrong. If you are never told that there are rules to how you express yourself, then you are free to express yourself how you want to, unencumbered. You make your own tools to solve problems as you go, without resorting to the established grab bag of the traditional approach, behind the roped off safe and approved techniques. Brilliant!
I've always loved Steve's drumming and so this is really great to hear him speak and get some insight into things. I don't think he's really done any interviews? Just wish there was more high quality footage of him doing his thing or doing some playthroughs. I also get the sense from this interview with Steve and probably from the rest of the band from Karnivool that they're not particularly outwardly self-promoting.
What a treat. Its really hard to find any footage on this guy. His very syncopated style is super unique. Video would be even better if there where chapter descriptions.
Went back to this band after not listening for over a decade after finishing this podcast, thanks for helping me appreciate something now I never did at that time, this band are incredible!
Really appreciate this. Steve is so underrated and it's so hard to find stuff about him online. I believe this podcast revealed more information about him as s player and a person than the last 15 years of tiny bits of publications about him. Also I think you can count the amount of times he's spoken in front of a camera on one hand.
I was at that US tour in Orlando. It was awesome! Themata is still one of my top albums. Man, I would love for Karnivool to come back to the US again! Cheers! 🤘😁
Fuuu yesss???????? Yes man! Steve is such a down to earth guy -- he has no idea he has been on my mind weekly for the past 10 years lol. And this isn't no obsession -- hes just taht good. Incredible freaking drummer, perfect feel and groove and chops. Lots of love guys
As far as the members of Snot- Mikey was in Soulfly for a bit way back in the late 2000s, I know the bassist was briefly playing with Amen, and I'm sure about any of the other members.
i was over here betting the massage bit was going to be taken out. happy it's not cuz it was funny. glad this was uploaded again. i'll say again, i didn't realize until this conversation that Themata came out that long ago.
I hate sweets & most fruit, so I do savory porridge/oatmeal. I mix my poached eggs into my porridge 😅 add coarse ground pepper, Nu Salt, sriracha, & sometimes cheese (muenster or American are the best for this). I have Crohn's disease so I have to generally stay away from most food that isn't basically cooked to mush. Porridge is like 50% of my diet :(
> Imagine being brought to an appointment by fkn Steve Judd... that's sounds great. haha > Wait 1:35:33 "vegetarian", and then chicken on it? Huh? > Hell yeah, 1:36:24 fritz kola shoutout!
Gotta say, re: swapping his ride... guitar players are blown away that a drummer cares about the sound of their instrument... "I thought you just wanted to something to hit!" We play proggy music and the guitarist is over the top on tweaking his sound. 🤯
First time listener and really liked the style of interview....sadly....you didn't get steve to talk about his side project Lune Asea which would have been fucking amazing if you had got him to chat about it...overall great interview though
Damn, still works dsy jobs. I want to know the specific reasons its slow going for the vool album...like really whats the hold up exactly. No one can say exactly what it is, not even kenny...........
Apparently they don’t all live in Perth anymore, so it’s a mission to all get together. It’s still weird though, there’s footage of them playing all it takes in 2016. Probably another 4 or 5 songs they’ve played live since then. It seems like they’re just overthinking it at this point.
sorry bud, do you kin that the unit with the black downbeat and skull is back to front? hahahahahahahahahahahah. sorry driving my focus insane. hahahah. amazin interview as always dude. p.s brush yer hair ya mink. hahahahah
Craig i just wanted to say, weve known each other for a while now, and i have never felt like this about someone, you have made me so happy as a person, and i want to spend the rest of our lives together in ecstasy. Will you marry me? GOD IM SO DRUNK
*My friend. I appreciate the time you spend on keeping us informed about the economy. As of today. I count on $15,000 what do you suggest me to invest in?*
To avoid being duped in the market, my buddy, you need a professional broker on the crypto market and financial advisor. They rank among the top of the best because they give people individualized advise based on their risk tolerance. While some have a terrible reputation, others with a strong track record can be quite good
That is true!!, as a beginner who doesn't understand how crypto really works, I advise you to find yourself an experienced trader who will trade for you while you receive the profit. This is the best way to make a good profit from cryptocurrency investments.
You are quite correct; they can have a significant impact on a person's portfolio. My first financial advisor and account manager for trusts was Mrs angela mae. Her work ethic is acceptable according to the US Investment Act of 1940, and she is verifiable. Her open-book approach lets me completely own and control my portfolio while maintaining very low costs in comparison to the returns on my investment.
Wow! Nice meeting people who also trades with Mrs angela mae, I couldn't believe myself until I got my proflt with an initial startup of $10,000 in days. I love you Mrs angela mae
this guy is 40?!? I need to drink more coffee
Holy vegemite, that guy is a rare treat
Never seen the pod before but big Karnivool fan and came here from the instagram post. So cool to hear such a long conversation with this absolute legend I've admired for so long! Thanks for that! Please interview the rest of the band members if you can 😊
Same!

Oh shit! This is lit! We need more Steve Judd in the world! HELLA EXCITING!

Sounds like you just meant well. To be honest, I don't think I'd recognize him either, if I walked past him on the street.

Sound Awake is one of the best albums ever recorded!
yea. Brother from another Mother.
Here here! It absolutely is... 100%
All of their albums are all time greats! Just all killer no filler.
What a treat. Its really hard to find any footage on this guy. His very syncopated style is super unique. Video would be even better if there where chapter descriptions.
Steve is the best sounding drummer I have ever seen. It was always confirmed, when I had a chance to see Karnivool in Europe.
WOOOOOW. Mario and now Steve. Unbelievable 🔥
Thank you so much for this great interview, finally getting to know my favourite drummer more, what an amazing personality
Long time Karnivool fan, first time podcast viewer. This was just a bloody good time, thank you!
Karnivool is the best, so lucky i got to see them on their last tour
It was a pleasure to watch. And now I'm on a Karnivool listening binge :) Such an amazing band.
For a drummer who always looks so serious when he's playing he's so chilled and friendly haha
Caught Karnivool in Glasgow back in February after years of waiting for them to hit the UK and Steve absolutely killed it 🤘
that was this day
@@reynlord666 yeah, I copped on halfway through once you started talking about food places in Glasgow 😂
Awesome interview. Made me go back and listen to Sound Awake and Cog’s New Normal, such killer albums 🤘🏼
He drummed on the Cog album too? I didn’t know that 🤘🥁
@@ls6mbkr111no, he didn’t. They just toured together a lot.

I was at that US tour in Orlando. It was awesome! Themata is still one of my top albums. Man, I would love for Karnivool to come back to the US again! Cheers! 🤘😁
Dude (Steve) I've seen you play so many times and you are the most impressive drummer I've seen next to Danny Carey... So much respect. Legendary.

Keen for this
Fun fact: the live drummer for pod is former suicide silence drummer Alex Lopez
Gotta say, re: swapping his ride... guitar players are blown away that a drummer cares about the sound of their instrument... "I thought you just wanted to something to hit!" We play proggy music and the guitarist is over the top on tweaking his sound. 🤯
9/10 drummers I know don't know or care much about their gear, even the very technically proficient guys
Hell yeah awesome podcast 🤟🏼 would be amazing if you could get Danny Carey on
Best drummer in Australia
