+Rabea Massaad BIG FAN!!! I found the one comment that doesn't feature a spam of fanboying. I base a lot of my riffwriting on your playstyle. Thanks for the music mate.
They were still messing around with Goliath before the studio version, this audience experienced one of the coolest intros to a track without even knowing it.
Hands down. I specifically come to this video just for the intro. I love the recorded version of Goliath. But this is just top tier. Wish we had a studio version of this intro. Would make an incredible Intro on the new album we're "patiently" waiting on lol
The most stunning intro ever created, wish this was recorded on the album but kind of glad it isn’t, so I can come here every now and then and be blown away.
CyanidePrototype, That is true. The lyrics to "We Are" changed a lot also from when they were first performing it live till the album version. In both cases, I definitely prefer the final album version of the lyrics. So it's great that they keep perfecting songs even after they are technically "written" and even have performed them live. Such an awesome band!
Karnivool has always had a special kind of atmosphere to their live show. Stuff like this, the Themata live intro, filler sound in between songs, playing their cover of Gotye's The Only Way live is just some of the stuff that makes it a different experience from the records.
Gotta keep the real fans happy. They play customized intros to most their live sets. Themata always had a slightly different into every time, just keeping it fresh every time they play. Admiration
I've just recently discovered this band, and this live version blows me away! I might actually prefer it over the studio version. These guys are VERY talented!
They used to play pub gigs in Perth before Themata dropped. Anyone who saw them live before they became known outside of WA knew that we were seeing something special.
Meytal Cohen did a drums only cover of Goliath that is more impressive than any other cover she has done because she reps our boys from Perth, when I emailed her and thanked her she responded by saying Karnivool are one of her favorite bands.
I bought the Alpha/Omega bass pedal only because Jon uses it for this track. His pedal board is massive and he uses about 12 different patches for different tracks.
I had no clue how well Ian Kenny's live performance stands up to the studio vocals. They aren't the same, but they are barely rough around the edges. Unlike, for instance, Gotye, who can rarely keep his voice together on stage.
They hadn't released Sound Awake yet, Goliath wasn't completed when they performed this. Karnivool have a habit of playing tracks live before they are recorded.
This was before the album came out, so perhaps they hadn't actually finished the lyrics. Ian said in an interview that he enjoys playing new songs because it's kind of a way to practice them, so maybe from playing they found they had some preferable lyrics. :p

It is alternating between 7/8 and 9/8. A creative way of playing with common time because together it is just 16/8. (At some parts it messes up by doing 2x 7/8 though.)
Mark is in B F# B G B E (Karnivool standard tuning), Drew is in C G C G A# D with a Capo on 1st fret, which he removes at 5:54 Jon is probably is in B F# B E G C

@@Benjamin-om3ih I respect your opinion, but do not agree. The tunes Karnivool makes are amazing but I think their riffs don't fit the lyrics often. In my opinion feeling between riffs and singing is really important.
that intro is just amazing.... a fine example of a stunning Chord progression

Yeah man, first time I heard him live I was BLOWN AWAY. the dude is an insane vocal talent.
They are so old school, they are so refreshing and they give me hope for music in the future
Why didn't they put this as INTRO on Sound Awake? Intro, Simple Boy, Goliath... Ya know?? Fuck, This would have been amazing to put on the record.
holy fucking yes
Brodzzzzz agreed!!!!!!!!!
Maybe they came up with it after the album was released.
@@Phergan Actually this show (2008) was before they releases Sound Awake (2009)! ;)
It doesn't suit the studio version of Goliath. You can hear different notes from the intro in the bridge and verses.
I don't know what it is about that intro but I swear I could cry it's so beautiful lmao
The intro has me Stoned!! I don't know what to do with my life anymore

I hear some Tool influence.... and I like it! ;)

maybe even a touch of Porcupine Tree
Ladislav Malák they're like a combination of Tool and Chevelle if you think about it. The chevelle part being from the vocals
@@captainpiefox9133Absolutely. I thought Tool, 10 years, and Chevelle. :D
Damn this is such a beautiful "live" performance. So well coordinated.
Hello from France ...really good rock/metal prog group......for me Karnivool is the Australian Tool ^^
I love that stunning chord progression.
Most bands get lucky with one good hook within a song, this band oozes great hooks...and that's just one song.
Meytal Cohen did a drums only cover of Goliath that is more impressive than any other cover she has done because she reps our boys from Perth, when I emailed her and thanked her she responded by saying Karnivool are one of her favorite bands.

her stick right at the end 😅
thanks meytal, i am not disappointed.
The outro is so perfect!!!! all of it
Meytal Cohen led me here.
Wonderful.
The intro reminds me of Team Sleep with Chino, so bad.
Sounds fantastic.
Throw Tool, Rishloo, Chevelle in a blender with a pinch of Porcupine tree and Karnivool is born. Love these guys!!
I hate when people compare them to Tool. I can see some similarities but they are both so unique to me.
what an amazing version!!! love it
This will live on
what are the chords in the intro
7/4 + 7/4 + 7/4 + 6/4 the whole song. Excellent performance.
27/4
this band rocks ! thanks Meytal Cohen
Wish there was a proper recording of this intro... I'd play it at my funeral
Thanks Rick Beato!

Symbionite xX for the bass, I believe the man has the first four set to a drop B tuning and keeps the higher two at G and C.
