I did this in early 80’s in the neighborhood corner store arcade area.My brother and friends thought I was crazy and even tried stopping me because of course they had their quarters lined up to play. All of a sudden someone yells the bees are not shooting anymore!! I kill the bees and go to the next level then you hear a synchronized... DAAAAAMN!!! made it to level 60 something and stopped to let them try it...Dude I Miss the 80’s
The guy that was servicing the arcade machines back in 81 in my area come in when I was playing with the cheat and wanted to get the quarters out and I wouldn't let him. Once that door is opened it shuts the machine off and I wasn't about to lose my game. He even offered me a quarter and I said no.... After an hour he left. 2 weeks later the game was gone 😭😭😭😭
It only requires one of the two on the far left, and the way it works is that they drop bombs in a dead zone area where the bombs never disappear/go away/etc, and the game has a set maximum number of bombs that can be on the screen at a time. As you get away from the left, they are less likely to drop bombs in the dead zone, thus using one of the far left ones is the best method.
I knew a arcade attendant that would let me play the games with a coin or token on a string and play everything, pinball, video games for free! One time it slipped out of my hand and I asked him to open the game, he said he couldn't go in the coin box cause it's locked but I told him I think it dropped on it not in it so he opened the coin door and yep it was sitting on top of the box,he just laughed and gave it back to me. Those were the good old days at Aladdins castle! Classic ,LOL!
so a good thing to note is it works on all levels, it's just easiest on level 1 because they aren't as aggressive, but any of those two ships on the far left of any level can trigger the glitch
I remember the "no fire" trick also. I and others thought it was the bees on the right side on stage two. Either way, in the arcades, you couldn't just do that when people were waiting to play. You have to execute it when no one is around because it took so freaking long. Had to walk, but not so far that a person might swipe my game thinking I left it.
Wow, have not done that move since 1988! Only did it one time in my life, but cannot remember how I learned about it back then... I was in the Army in Germany, and the NCO club and got it to work one time in my life.......Thanks for the memory jogger, I will have to try again...
Just did it on Namco Museum. Same way as he described by the 2 bees on the left. What you must watch for is bullets coming from the opposite side of the screen because people tend to be relaxed waiting for the glitch thinking the bullets won't reach them and BAM!! When you dodge 3 bullets from the opposite side, the bees will go down to or bullet a piece or two bullets. As you dodge the 5th opposite side bullet that's when you know your coming close to your goal. Known about it before I went to school but had to implement it when school was over at a liquor store in Baltimore.
you can leave just one of them, and it works on stage 1 and 2, leaving both makes it work faster, if it is a 2 player game. only one player needs to do the trick, but when opne of the two players die off, they will again fire
256 levels before the game just stops, when I was playing in mid 80's. It's the bottom on left and bottom on right, doesn't have to be 1st set. I rolled the score over 2 times.
I heard about this trick back around 1982 when the only way to play was on an arcade machine. What we believed was that you had to leave the lower left bee alive until he made three runs at you without firing and shoot him DURING that third pass, or all the waiting would have been wasted and the insects would all shoot again. I was able to pull off this hack once for sure, maybe twice, but couldn't do it on several other attempts. Sounds like the actual hack may have been easier than we believed but it tested your patience for sure
I read a post back in 2001 or so from a programmer who was a student it might of been his thesis. What it is is the game only allows 6 or so bullets on screen at any one time. And the far left bees sometimes fire on the 0 pixel and the code for the trajectory of the bullets only work for 1 or higher. So the bullet gets stuck off screen. And after this happens 6 or whatever the limit, the game won't allow anymore fired if you notice right before they stop firing only 1 bullet gets fired at a time. Plus if I remember right you can do it on the stages before the bonus levels and maybe level 2 not completely sure. I remember someone told me that in 83 or so ya I'm 49 now lol
Yeah, we shamelessly leveraged this trick back in the day on our school's Galaga machine. After level 40 or so, I got bored. Then I sloppy. And then it ended in collisions. I can't remember how many spare ships I'd racked up by then.
In mid 80s noticed a guy doing pretty well at game (picwood bowling alley west Los Angeles) he said his dad help build the game in Japan but I didn't believe him....then he actually showed me this trick and my mind was completely blown 😉
I racked up 370,000 score on this game BEFORE finding out about the trick; the game got to the point where the challenging stages reset back to red bees, about 45 minutes of playing. I learned this trick and turned score past its limits (999,999) several times.
Every time I try this I’ll be waiting in the right corner for a couple minutes but then a random laser comes out of nowhere from the right side of the screen and kills me. Does anyone else have that problem?
Sometimes the bee will enter at the top left of the screen and go off the screen completely on the left side. It is launching a shot off screen and it enters on the right side where you are sitting. And I just use one of the bees on the far left and the trick works too.
Just move away from the side whenever one does that to avoid the bullet if it fires. But it doesn't fire all the time. Have to be ready whenever it goes off the left side of the screen.
I just waited for 30 minutes left the two guys on the left and stayed on the left as they kept firing towards me and I gave up 30 minutes lol dear lord I’ll just get over 200,000 the regular way again 😂
I learned this trick back in 81-82, but we saved the leftmost bee on the first row only. Was able to do this on stage 1 or stage 2. What I noticed was there was never a time where the bee dropped 2 missiles 3 times in a row. Took anywhere from 7 - 25 min, and after the challenging stage following stage 255 it returns to level 1 easy. You don't start getting ship again though
@@peety1969 Interesting, I didn't know that. Once I became impatient and killed the last bee while it was dropping one missile each pass, and afterward each convoy would only drop one bullet
yep! just need the one bee, not both. I got in trouble from the owner of the arcade telling me to stop playing the game for 8 hours straight lol! and yeah, I remember all the level flags overlapping the ship icons on the higher levels, then it resets to level 0; can't remember what happened then, did it just quickly bump to level 1? fun times.
I would like to know if this was intentional by the creators of the game. I was shown how to do that in "1983-84" we would skip school and play for hours. I was able to do the same thing some years ago when it was released in hand held form. Great Game lots of memories
I have heard the this was intentionally put into the game so that the programmer could get his high score on any Galaga machine. I did not know of this trick when Galaga first came out; I heard of it probably in the late ‘90s but have only used the trick once.
Ive tried this trick on both the original arcade and nes versions. The time is said to be 15 minutes but ive never gotten it to work on either up to 30 minutes hundreds of tries.
I remember doing the no fire trick. But I thought the 2 aliens you leave were on the right side in stage 2? But I am going back 35 years so I could well be wrong. Didn't people get the shits when you did this at the shopping mall and people were waiting to play!!
there's a video around here on youtube where an expert on the game said it takes about 10 minutes until they stop firing. I think he said that some tournaments allowed using this method only if you were using it to take a quick break, like to go to the bathroom. but you have to quickly come back and kill the enemies before they run out of bullets. otherwise they will disqualify you.
tried it on Mame it works, it's easier to dodge bombs if you stay to the right with only one fighter just move to the center before they launch the next attack took me maybe 15- 20 min
arcade 1up version they fixed it, it seems. after a few minutes a random bullet comes from the right side of the screen from an unseen ship lol. ive only dodged it 3 times, but it would seem fixed. guess ill just have to get the NES out lol
May I be stricken down, but AT THIS MOMENT I'm doing it right now.. I found a comfy spot that I won't get hit, so I'm outside smoking a cig and waiting.. I hope it works for mame.. I'll update in a min.. Update: After an obsurd amount of waiting in that comfy spot with no issues, a bologna fart rogue bullet produced itself on the right side of the screen! I leaked alittle when I got hit.. I'll try later cause I'm pizzed.. Twill be an update..
I KNEW THIS TRICK WAS BACK IN LIKE 1979- OR WHENEVER GLAGA CAME OUT, YOU GUYS SAVE A BEE AND KILL IT LAST THEN LET IT FLY DOWN AT THE END ALONE UNTIL IT DOESN'T- LIKE 3 TIMES AND THEN YOU SHOOT IT AND THEY NEVER SHOOT AT YOU THE ENTIRE GAME!!!! AT ALL! I CAN'T REMEMBER EXACTLY HOW I DID IT, AND AM HAPPY I LOOKED IT UP AND YOUR TALKING ABOUT WHAT I DID WHEN I WAS A KID!!! ( I'M 50+ NOW. 😭😭😭😭😭😭) thanks for posting this.
I remember this trick a long time ago. Along with the Centipede Blob. I can't imagine anyone wanting to do this. Galaga is not hard enough to me. Rolling over once at the score is sufficient to me even with the firepower on. To make thing easier would be pointless.
there is a much easier way that doesn't require waiting. im trying to remember it and that's how i found this. i think all you have to do is let them all come out on the first level without shooting and then you can't shoot the top 4 until you've picked all the others off, something like that
You got 2 stages of chance, no problem if first stage unsuccessful. I found this accidentally when it came out 🤣 remember waiting for a phone call and I was talking and pulled my shift out right of screen.then killed the bees and no more firing.
I recall getting this trick to work on an arcade game, but once the enemy ships stopped firing they started moving crazy fast and I lost all my ships to collisions after 5 or 10 levels.
I've known about this glitch since the game came out, just curious does it work on the Nintendo Switch Namco Museum version? I have no interest in doing it now but back then I could play for hours on a single quarter because of this glitch. It doesn't have to be on just level 1, you can also do it on levels 2 and 10.
I was doing that trick in the 80's i did not remember witch 2 bees to keep and at what stage.... so Thanks and i just tried it on the Galaga midway set 1 rom on mame32 on pc and it still works !!! LOL :0))))
Nice,, i used it when low on coins back in the 80s,, the rumor at the local arcades back then,, was that it was some German kid who found this trick, dont know if it's true.,, you know some other tricks for other games??
I will be dammed, I have four bees flying around in here right now and I had a double ship , I am sitting on the right side and nothing was killing me after about five to 7 minutes, I got sick of waiting so went outside to smoke a cigarette, I come back in and they are still firing at me for about 1 minute, one of the two ships was killed when I went outside and after the minute they stop firing, I paused the game to write this because you can pause mame. Now I am going to un pause this game and see what happens! Someone said this glitch would not work with the bootleg version of this game ,well I just proved they were wrong!
Does anyone know a safe spot to stay for 15 minutes? I tried hiding on the right but a random bullet will come from the right side and kill me! Can anyone help?
I am the world record Holder in Galaga. The only safe spot is after you have rolled the game. After 256 stages the game restarts again and at stage 1 is where you can hide in a corner. You have to leave one bee from any corner to hide in the corner.
Galaga Tips, I noticed there’s allot of players who enjoy Galaga just like I . As the former world record holder in Galaga *I would like to give some tips that I have learned over the past 5 years to get high scores. Hope you learn and apply. *currently World Records Holder in Galaga 5 Ships *currently World Record Holder in Marathon 18 ships. *currently World Record Holder in 1 ship Galaga Marathon (18 ships) (1) Make the red moths a priority to kill as many as you can. (2) When the Green Galaga is about to capture you, shoot him once to turn him purple that way you only have to shoot at him once and minimize the chances of killing your captured ship. (3) Develop a pattern for the three waves. The first wave and the third wave you can use the same pattern however, the second wave which is harder will be a different pattern from the first and third. (4) When bees are entering the battlefield (space) and they are settling in there are a few bees that will try leave the battlefield, let them leave. Don’t kill the bees that are leaving the battlefield that way it gives you a second or two to kill the bees that are at the top. The moths too, don’t kill the moths that are exiting the battlefield. (5) At the beginning of each wave you should fire a test shot to see where you are lining up your missiles. You should use “HIGH SCORE” to line up your shots. For example - the first wave I like to shoot at the G in HIGH, the second wave (hardest stage) I shoot at the H the first H in HIGH, and then the third wave I shoot again at the G in High. I will always fire a missile at the beginning of each wave to make sure I’m lined up correctly to attack the enemy. (6) Try to clear one side or the other side. You cannot have bees and moths on both sides. (7) Try to stay in the middle and if you are pushed to the side try to push the enemies back and then pull back. It’s like a dance. You and the enemy are going back and forth. Try not to get pushed into the corner. Fight back and push them back. What is the secret of getting a perfect score on the bonus levels? You have to remember what bonus stage monsters you are destroying cause if you forget you will be out of position. Once you become a Galaga Master being out of position will not be a big deal. You have to figure out where to position your fighter every single bonus stage. Through trial and error, you will figure out where to position the fighter. PS I don’t always get perfect scores on bonus stages.
This has gotten on my Eva loving flipping nerves. These damn bees has more bombs that the US military. I'm over it. I pit 168680 on the board with them firing. I'll just loose the Nirmal way geez
We all knew this back in 81...don't ask me how we found out with no internet. Btw...it WILL do it in stage 2 also in case you accidentally shoot 1 in stage 1
I’m guessing the person who figured this out worked at 7/11. He was playing Galaga and had to run back to cover the counter to serve a lunch run on hot dogs and slurpees, then went back to the game 15 minutes later to realize he hadn’t been killed and they had stopped shooting.
Does this work on the bootleg version ? I tried this and only left the one bottom left one there cause someone said just to leave the one, you can then just sit there for about 4 or five minutes then watch it , it will fire a random shot right at you. So I tried this again on my last ship and moved it slightly to the left this time, it didn't work and the random shot hit me, keep in mind I didn't go fifteen minutes, after it hit my ship the first time it's like the timer reset and like clockwork after five minutes that's when it fired the random shot that hit my last ship, do you have to avoid shots for a full fifteen minutes? I also noticed if it was a bee in another position that you left you could sit at the right side forever and it would never kill you but would keep firing forever! For some reason the actual game one is not working in my emulator but the bootleg one is working on the actual Galaga rom!
I remember finding this out from someone a little after this first came out in the arcades and I believe it took roughly 15 minutes and the enemy would no longer fire. Then I was able to play till I got a million and a half points on it before I just gave my spot to someone who was waiting, Cause I had to go home, lol!
@@adrianrobles6898 So, I have the Galaga that is in the Ms Pac Man 1Up Countercade. It will work on this one as well? I tried it, and could not seem to make it happen. but maybe I did not give it long enough.

i’ve been trying this for a while now and it’s not working. i’m leaving two bees on first stage and they aren’t stopping the fire. any tips?
You should keep the last 2 to the left, the exact same 2 bees in the video
If I remember, to takes about 10-15 mins before they stop shooting
I've been waiting forever!!!!
there is a much easier way that doesn't require waiting. im trying to remember it and that's how i found this. i think all you have to do is let them all come out on the first level without shooting and then you can't shoot the top 4 until you've picked all the others off, something like that
the local arcade had a no trick Galaga rule! which they strictly enforced!
I came here thinking someone would beat Galaga without firing a shot. Glad I found this instead. Very neat and interesting.
You got 2 stages of chance, no problem if first stage unsuccessful. I found this accidentally when it came out 🤣 remember waiting for a phone call and I was talking and pulled my shift out right of screen.then killed the bees and no more firing.
I did this on my arcade1up but they just keep firing
Same
Same
Same
Very interesting
I recall getting this trick to work on an arcade game, but once the enemy ships stopped firing they started moving crazy fast and I lost all my ships to collisions after 5 or 10 levels.
my guess is 256 bullets, because the game also resets at stage 256
it's actually 255 ;-)
I've known about this glitch since the game came out, just curious does it work on the Nintendo Switch Namco Museum version? I have no interest in doing it now but back then I could play for hours on a single quarter because of this glitch. It doesn't have to be on just level 1, you can also do it on levels 2 and 10.
Do you know the glitch for the game Phoenix?
I was doing that trick in the 80's i did not remember witch 2 bees to keep and at what stage.... so Thanks and i just tried it on the Galaga midway set 1 rom on mame32 on pc and it still works !!! LOL :0))))
Doesn't seem to work on the Xbox one version. I waited 30 minutes and gave up.
I already now the trick p.s You can do the trick with the top left blue and yellow bug
Question???... does it work on any kind of arcade consult..you know like on the T.V. games.
It works for all non-bootleg/hack versions of Galaga. It even works for most of the sequels and Arranged Mode in Namco Classics Collection Vol. 1.
@@E24KLawson what about on namco museum ds
Does this work on their arcade 1up machine?
R4idzzz that’s what i’m playing on right now. did it work for you?
LudicrousSea887 no it didn’t actually I waited for a while
R4idzzz dang that sucks i was trying to beat someone
R4idzzz I’m trying it right now
Hydroa i did it actually, it works, just make sure your using the two left bees.
Nice,, i used it when low on coins back in the 80s,, the rumor at the local arcades back then,, was that it was some German kid who found this trick, dont know if it's true.,, you know some other tricks for other games??
You found?
I will be dammed, I have four bees flying around in here right now and I had a double ship , I am sitting on the right side and nothing was killing me after about five to 7 minutes, I got sick of waiting so went outside to smoke a cigarette, I come back in and they are still firing at me for about 1 minute, one of the two ships was killed when I went outside and after the minute they stop firing, I paused the game to write this because you can pause mame. Now I am going to un pause this game and see what happens! Someone said this glitch would not work with the bootleg version of this game ,well I just proved they were wrong!
Missed the radar in stage 2 for dual fighters !!
I knew this in 1980. How about in Xbox? I tested and did not work.
I already Knew this but I got 78,000 it's a pretty cool trick
I got 114,850
Angel Barragan but they aren’t firing? How are y’all not getting further than that? Without the glitch I get to at least 170,000
@@jacobeyyoung6540 I can play for hours on one credit without using it. I don't know how anyone can die if they do use it. ;)
@@jacobeyyoung6540 They can still fly at you so they will kill you
@@magmaplays9685 still i get to like 120k without the glitch
I couldn’t get it to work
Here after this glitch got s feature in Pixels movie
You only need one bee, from the bottom left, takes about 20min
Does anyone know a safe spot to stay for 15 minutes? I tried hiding on the right but a random bullet will come from the right side and kill me! Can anyone help?
I am the world record Holder in Galaga. The only safe spot is after you have rolled the game. After 256 stages the game restarts again and at stage 1 is where you can hide in a corner. You have to leave one bee from any corner to hide in the corner.
@@ApK698 Thanks for the advise I will try to get to that stage! Also congrats on the world record!
Galaga Tips, I noticed there’s allot of players who enjoy Galaga just like I . As the former world record holder in Galaga *I would like to give some tips that I have learned over the past 5 years to get high scores. Hope you learn and apply.
*currently World Records Holder in Galaga 5 Ships
*currently World Record Holder in Marathon 18 ships.
*currently World Record Holder in 1 ship Galaga Marathon (18 ships)
(1) Make the red moths a priority to kill as many as you can.
@@ApK698 😃👍
Can't get it to work. The ship keeps blowing up on its own after sitting there for a while.
you are probably leaving your ship on the very far right, correct? you are not seeing the shot that is fired off screen. its coming from the right.
So how long exactly did it take to work?
But this trick work only with Galag no with Galaga :) what a long time to play
This has gotten on my Eva loving flipping nerves. These damn bees has more bombs that the US military. I'm over it. I pit 168680 on the board with them firing. I'll just loose the Nirmal way geez
I heard it was level two and all u need was 1 not the 2.
Does anyone know if this works on the My Arcade mine version?
We all knew this back in 81...don't ask me how we found out with no internet.
Btw...it WILL do it in stage 2 also in case you accidentally shoot 1 in stage 1
Yeah it works. Thanks.
I’m guessing the person who figured this out worked at 7/11. He was playing Galaga and had to run back to cover the counter to serve a lunch run on hot dogs and slurpees, then went back to the game 15 minutes later to realize he hadn’t been killed and they had stopped shooting.
You cant just leave it,, bombs will get you.
Thanks so much! Rented a cabin who had this game and I was getting so frustrated I wanted to know if there were secrets to defeated this game.
I did this at Abari Game Bar.
Same
doesn't work for the ps1 Namco museum disc
I did for me
There are so many versions of this game...
It does
Okay i tried this and i was at the far right of the screen .but after some time a somethi g shot me from the right side is that supposed to happen
Xavier Ruffin It's uncommon but bullets do occasionally come from the right side of the screen.
Galega King dome
Old trick I did in 1985
Doesnt work on ARCADE GAME SERIES: GALAGA on Steam
darn. I was just about to try it on the steam version. thanks. :(
Wierd, because it works on the PS4-Version of ARCADE GAME SERIES: GALAGA. AFAIK it should be the same version, ported on different systems.
what about the nes version?
@@tr3pidatioN
kota. The NES version is different, and I would be surprised if it works for some. I’ve tried, but nothing seems to happen

I remember finding this out from someone a little after this first came out in the arcades and I believe it took roughly 15 minutes and the enemy would no longer fire. Then I was able to play till I got a million and a half points on it before I just gave my spot to someone who was waiting, Cause I had to go home, lol!

Yes because it’s the original rom
