Great video. Thanks for creating this broadcast to support the gaming community...wd
Thank you Walter! I'll be releasing some more content in the coming weeks from Hall of Fame Ceremony and a walk through video of Ottumwa's Old School Pinball and Arcade!!
@@timstinyarcade170 Would any of these tips carry over to if you are playing the emulated plug n play versions of Galaga?
Dre Parker MK if the plug n play is running the arcade rom and not like a nes rom then it should work I think!
@@timstinyarcade170 It runs a lot like the arcade versions, the major difference is the placement of the buttons and joystick. Sometimes I am having to use one hand to shoot and move my ship which is not the most ideal way to play Galaga but I have done it for years and it has become second nature to me. I just can't seem to get past 200,000 points.
my name is robert. thanks for the galaga scoring tip video. one of my all time favorite old school video games is centipede. can you do a video on getting the hight scores in centipede?
Highest level I ever got on 1 quarter was 63. My mother was a bartender and I spent a ton of hours playing games in the bar because she couldn't afford a baby sitter. One day I was gone for al long time and she was wondering why I was not asking for more quarters and I was killing it on Galaga. I had the high score for years till the bar shut down.
I just don’t understand this concept. In Australia, arcade operators (and every shop with arcade games) would turn off the machine each night. And there goes your scores. How did you Americans (you and George Castanza) have your high score recorded for years?
@@OldAussieAds It depends on the arcade machine. Some will retain highscores when turned off and others will not. It stores in the solid state chip on the board. For example centipede would retain only the top 3 highscores.
@@OldAussieAdsI have a Galaxian cab with a high score screen pcb(?) installed. Also has a rapid fire mode where you can just hold down the fire button down.
Highest level for me was 222 35 years ago. Rolled the score counter.
8:56...this game helped me grieve my parents. Literally played for a year straight and processed everything. It's not only the repetitive nature of it, but the "rules" you discover as you keep playing. Something just really comforting about it.
I too have a special connection with this game through my father. He passed away around 7-8 months ago and Galaga was one of his favorites. We used to go to the local pizza joint and they had a sit down, flat top combo table with Galaga and Pac-Man. We would spend HOURS eating pizza and playing these games. We were such regulars that they would clear the game table for us on days they knew we were coming because they understood it was a tradition for us. I'll never forget how excited he got when I finally took number one on the high score board, even if the score wasn't that impressive and there were just a lack of people reguarly playing the machine. Still one of my most fond memories of him saying how proud he was. I miss that man like you wouldn't believe so I know how you feel. You never forget but the hurt does fade with time. It's nice to be able to look back and remember the good times though. Keep your head up Galaga sister, we're gonna make it.
@@Kramerica962 My mom passed away in 2014 and although we didn't connect with arcade games, I can relate to your post. Always cherish those things that keep a connection to our parents. Im sorry for your loss. If we are (or your dad) around the same age, we really experienced something very special growing up in the golden era of arcade games, music and pop culture in general.. Im almost 52 and have a soon-to-be 5 year-old son and we play my Arcade 1Up cabinets with the classic Atari games and others with Pac Man and Galaga, etc. I know I don't have as much time here with him since Im older, so I hope he will remember me by some of the things that made my youth special and will be special/sentimental to him, because today's pop culture is, in my opinion, questionable at best, and many youth are not happy, despite having so much tech. Never take the time we have here for granted, as well as family and all the great things we are afforded by living here and now, because its so fleeting. Im sure you know that, but it was nice to put it into words. Take care and thanks for your story.

Wow
I played this as a little boy in a local Mexican restaurant here in Ga where I live in the mid 90s highest I ever got then was level 27 and I was stoked I just played 30 mins ago here at the hotel I am staying and I got to 53 😅 I felt really accomplished 😂 it’s definitely a comforting game I guess it just takes me back to a simpler time and place, God bless you everyone I hope everyone finishes this year strong!
That man is playing Galaga. Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did.
Growing up, my dad owned a laundromat and we played galaga every night after hours so this game has always meant a lot to me.
After 5 years of going to the same barcade, I finally beat the high score on my local cabinet. I hit level 113 and my score was 1,020,113. I was sweating my ass off and my forearm was so damn sore.
I've been trying to find new techniques to make it simpler and watching this gameplay has really made me realize some flaws in my game.
Thanks for the upload and it's awesome to see other Galaga pros missing a handful of bonus stages...makes me feel better. Hope to compete with y'all someday!
Mine is 1,143,390 at stage 106
They had the fast shoot version at my laundromat in 1987 🙂 I played for 3 1/2 hours and got the Level 255 glitch and the bugs stopped coming out. I told the owner the game glitched and I got my quarter back 🥳
OG Rom then right?
BRO WHAT 🤣
One thing he didn't go into at all is when they are swarming down you need to use a constant side to side motion with each wave, to draw their fire. They generally come in bursts / waves that allow you to work your way across the screen, and by the time you reach the edge that burst has stopped and you can reposition. So you're trying to draw them to one side or the other, but doing it slowly where you're kind of teasing them to follow you to the edge gradually so you don't run out of space. Then you reposition and work across the other direction to the other side the same way. Back and forth until the level is cleared.
he demonstrated all of that, i feel like that part is obvious from just spectating
Heres a good Hack Trick. (im nearly 50, and i remember doing this in grade 5 and the local fish and chip shop)
First stage , shoot all , bar the last 2 that come out, stay to the right of the screen the whole time.
Let them constantly do their loop and over and over.
They will fire at you, they are easy to dodge. let them repeat their loops.
If your ship is to far over ( like firmly pressed against the end of the screen) watch out for sneaky bullets that come from the right , leave a gap between your ship and the end of the screen, sometimes the bullets can come from the right hand of the screen and you cant see them and you will die.
Wait patiently for around about 5-8 minutes (remember to dodge the bullets) it will feel like a long but its not. Eventually they will stop firing at you.
Let them do a few more loops just to make sure they have completely stopped.
When they have done at least 4-5 loops with no firing, kill them both.
ENJOY THE REST OF THE GAME WITH NO BULLETS BEING FIRED AT YOU, AND A HUGE SCORE.
Been playing Galaga consistently. I love the colors, the concept, the whole idea, thank you for showing us the tricks!
Whenever I have challenging stage, no matter how many ships I have, there will always be one bug from the matrix dodging every bullet.
Exactly
memorize the patterns of every challenge stage, same way you do the normal map cycle. always line up the shots with either the outside or inside edge of the first 2 and last 2 of high score. These 6 numbers are vital to where challenge stages ALWAYS either cycle upward or downward while entering/leaving the screen.
If you need practice, this game is on Steam.
@@Kire667 how much money?
@@creatingvideostobreakmyspe6049 a lot!
I know that exact pain! That one tiny little bug that survives EVERYTHING you throw at it.
Jordan was a boss drummer in middle school. Timing and rhythm patterns are natural to him.
As a drummer, I can relate to that!
Maybe that explains why my best score is only 360k 😀
Stage one- leave one blue bug from the left in the second row, kill everything else but leave that one, let it fly around dodging it and the fire power for ten minutes, then shoot it, the rest of the game the bugs won’t fire at you unless they crash into you and die, then they’ll fire at you again
Galaga is probably my favorite coin op arcade game. Jordan was awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed!
I definitely want to say this video was very helpful to me. I started to playing galaga on the Nintendo Switch & I could not get past level five. This video was very helpful in showing me how to play the game.
Glad it could help!!
Yes they helped i play on switch too
Ive noticed that the version of galaga on nintendo devices is slower than the arcade
@@masterdingus7074 i play on the arcade
@@masterdingus7074 on the switch some times but the arcade i do mostly
My most beloved / hated game of my teen years in the arcade :) Incredible gameplay, Kudos! Soooo much memories :)
Started playing this game way back in the early 1980s well I'm 54 now and I still enjoy playing it time to time this was the old memory trips to the arcades again
Son of the 70's, played Galaga for the first time when I was 12, one of my favorite games 👍🏼🕹
😎
Dominated this game alot in the early 80s. Mind inducing things helped. Awesome video
Thank you 🙏
Ooh! I love Galaga. I always play a game of Galaga whenever I see a machine. I never knew some of these awesome tips!
This was my favorite arcade game as a kid until the day Double Dragon rolled into the arcade. Fascinating video, thanks guys!
Double Dragon?? WTF?? That's like saying Revolver was my favorite Beatles album until they released Yellow Submarine.
@@daveidmarx8296 two different generations. Double Dragon was an absolute classic in its own right.
@@daveidmarx8296 I don't know much about The Beatles, but I'm trying to understand the comparison. Would you mind expanding on that?
@@DirtySouthSOHK Sgt. Pepper is their mainstream hit album, and probably their most famous. Revolver is for the more dedicated fans. I don't necessarily agree, but that was the point he was making.
@@holden6104 I see. So it's like a hardcore vs casual fanclub kinda thing? I was looking at it the wrong way since revolver and yellow sub released at the same time whereas Galaga and DD were years apart (as you stated, different generations '81 and '86 I believe)
2:22 someones taunting Donkey kong's foot on the rivet stage.
Awesome break down. Have only played this classic casually but it was super entertaining. Owned Galaxian on the Atari 2600 back in the olden days as a kid. Used to play that alot.
Thank you!
@@timstinyarcade170 No problem. Appreciate the content.
Just a beautiful game. Should be in the modern art museum.
I found that letting all the enemies get into formation and playing with just one ship improved my skills, though my scores were lower of course. The key to to be able to line up your ship and shoot the enemies in formation before they start to drop down. When playing with two ships it's often possible to blow away all the enemies before they even have a chance to get into formation. I don't know how high a score I could have had but I used to walk away from the game after I rolled over a million points.
Galaga and Centipede are severely underrated by the public in comparison to Space Invaders and Pac-Man.
Thanks for the tips. Incredible play in real arcade hardware.
At 12:54 missed tip, newbies, never let your ship get captured if you are on your last men , instant game over!
This was my game back in the day. I drove pizzas in the early 80s during the Reagan job shortage and I would get off at midnight and go to 7-11 and play a couple of games. Both were always at the top 2 unless the clerk didnt reset the machine from the day before.
Great game, thanks for playing.
Thanks 🙏
you're welcome@@timstinyarcade170
Back in the 90s, there was a Mortal Kombat game that if you input a code, you could play a super damn hard version of Galaga. Playing that made me a hellaciously good player at regular Galaga.
Good job making the video. Thanks for doing good at Galaga.
Thank for watching!
Good one! @@timstinyarcade170

My dad built a arcade machine and it’s my favorite game I not the best but still fun

Yep i have my own arcade machine i didnt make it just bought one
I have a handheld console and this is my favorite game on it

This was always my favourite game. I remember one magical afternoon when I seemed to get ahead of the game and hit 1.2 million. I have zero recollection about how many levels that was.
That is my uncle
You have a awesome uncle
I'd love to play Galaga with your uncle. My best at this game is 2.3 million.
What a guy

The simple strategy I use in this game is I try my best to clear at least one side. Once you do that you can just stay on the clear side while you destroy the enemy one by one. Its the safest way to play the game. (And also try to get the double ship as soon as possible)
This game a classic !!! Love the sounds of the game
The opening theme of this game makes me feel the smell of that old arcade place I use to go when I was a kid in a small time Brazilian coastal city
RUclips read my mind and could tell I love Galaga. I never know abut the double tap strategy. I always just mashed as fast as possible. He still double taps no matter how fast he goes. I'm stealing that! I only seen Challenge Stage 3 a couple of times and never managed to keep my two ships. Great to see a master a work.
Thanks and glad it helped!
Nice video! Made me remember those old, beautiful Atari 2600 days.
Thanks! Love the Atari 2600!
I remember a humiliating anecdote that once happened to a clueless guy who was playing with his last ship, when the ship that drops the shield that captures your ship came down, the guy got caught thinking that they would give him a replacement... GAME OVER .
Everyone laughing at him while the game boasted of having his ship captured as spoils of war.
I've done that before today. Not concentrating on how many lives I had left and accidentally got my last fighter captured. I think most people that have played the game have experimented with getting their last fighter captured to see if they got a bonus one.
him: casually plays while explain the game and gets a super high score
me: omg i got to level 6!!!!
Stage 6: (Loop 1, Stage 6) (0+6=6)
Love Galaga. My best score was four hundred and fourty five thousand. Actually clocked it and started over again playing the same pattern from the start but found it was insanely fast . After a while you learn the patters. Stage 9 and 18 are easy. I still play at home on my PS3. Just get a Galaga fix know and then. Being play it since it came out In the early 80s. Think I got up to stage 44. Great game good fun. Another favorite of mine is Phoenix.
Phoenix is a good one also! 👍
My record is level 240 when I was on vacation. Found an Arcade cabinet at Disneyworld in Flordia when I was a kid. Didn't know there was only 255 levels.
This dude needs to write that Galaga book!
Galaga Forum requires parking on Level 0, Twin Galaxies doesn't address it and doesn't adjudicate scores anymore, anyway. Also, the 2nd-to-last challenging stage is actually the easiest to get 100% on. Playing on the Player 2 side is not required but is recommended so you don't have to keep track of "rollovers".
This guy is so good!
I love the sounds of Galaga!😊
They bring me back to the 80s when I here them!
Hey I built a multicade machine recently and been getting adicted to Pac-Man and galaga haha
Love old games
Thanks - I have been getting back into Pac-Man and Galaga, for the first time since the 80's, through the Nintendo Switch (which I really bought for my son to play Minecraft). Fantastic fun. Now I need to see if my wife will let me get an arcade machine ;-)
Galaga and Twin Cobra are my 2 all time favourite arcade shooters.
Great choices!
I love this game and the best by far, always thought it would be cool to have an led wall of the color changing background
One of my favorites
Great game, even just hearing the sounds takes me right back to Boscombe and Bournemouth pier arcades on the south coast of England in the 80s. Amazing times. And I think I hear Dig Dug in the background!?
this is still my favorite arcade game! I was only 12 yrs old when it came out, I played it everyday. And Im pretty sure i spent enough quarters to buy a machine. Lol The older kids at the Arcade would get mad because i played to long, so they'd reset the machine or just unplug it. And thats okay because they never could beat my scores.
Hahahaha, I love it!
I hope they stay up at night wishing they were as good, the fools
Ahhhh. Thank you! I've always died right after the 1st bonus stage. Now I die right after... the 1st bonus stage.
Level 10. No bullets shot at you when they are entering the screen.
Thanks man
2:14 I was just vibin to this music
I suck at Galaga, but there is something very magical about it.
For whatever reason this era of arcade games doesn't hold much nostalgia for me, except for Galaga. Which is nostalgia overload.
One of the best games for sure
I wish this was around 40 years ago
I still playing amd loviing this game.
One of the best!
If only I had this video 40 years ago.
Thinking same thing when doing this video!
This is an amazing video! I play competitive fighting games (yes im in esports) with arcade stick, but also Im actually pretty decent at galaga. I can get to stage 13-16 with about 260,000-290,000+ points!
It was a fun video to do with Jordan. Here is video link to another video I did with Jordan ruclips.net/video/wq_Y3wjHGxI/видео.html. Hanging out at Galloping Ghost Arcade.
Stage 13: (Loop 1, Stage 13) (0+13=13)
Stage 16: (Loop 1, Stage 16) (0+16=16)
My favourite arcade game of all time! All I needed was a quarter and I would play this game all day! Now the game Defender on the other hand is HARD AS HELL! (but good)
Hope to be doing video on Defender in the future!!
Double tap was the best secret.
I would love to have this guy consult on a Galaga movie!
Great video when I was 13 i flipped the score back 9999 I can't remember how many 9 they were .the ships would like line up across the screen and lines of ships behind each line .
Thank you! Here is another video I did with Jordan ruclips.net/video/wq_Y3wjHGxI/видео.html
One of the greatest sequels in the history of the world, though Gaplus (Galaga 3) is right up there too.
It's still as intense to see as when I first played it back in '85.
Awesome game!
9:28 Actually, these enemies are called Maples. Pretty interesting name for a satellite, I would say. How I know this is because in Galaga Wars, a mobile remake of the game that is still available, it tells you the names of all the enemies that are in the remake.
Good job, Jordan. Nice video.
WOW! I've been playing this for 40 years or so, and I am nowhere near as skilled. Thanks for showing the way!
Thanks for watching!
I haven't played this game in 30 years!
I never was a Galaga fan, but one day last year I picked up one of those $5 famiclone gameboy things and it had Galaga on it, it got me hooked. Never expected to find one of my favourite quick games on such a crappy device lol.
Galaga is fun and addicting for sure.
He talks when he plays like me ;) thanks for the tips!!!
MY DAD has the Nintendo NES and the game is so addicting
Very!
I remember when our area got its own bowling alley. Before that it was a half hour drive to the closest alley. My parents take me there and what do I want to do? Bowl? No. Play Galaga.
there's gotta be different arcade versions. the one i played didn't have the bugs go crazy fast until lvl 15 maybe. and the bugs that split into 3 for higher points only changed after their corresponding bonus levels. good way to rake points is letting them up and only shoot moving bugs + getting the winged bolts (lol) for 1600 when they fly down with 2 butterflies. my highest score was 902k a good 30 years ago
Thanks for doing this, tim.
I haven't played this too often, but I've just bought the Galaga partycade from QVC uk. I should improve now after watching this. I'll definitely watch this a few more times just to drum it in.👍👍

Man, whenever I had the chance to play Galaga when I was with my dad, I take that chance, I'm not the best at it, but I have a lot of fun playing it. I'm getting Galaga for both Game Gear and Game Boy, plus I'm getting Galaga 1up arcade cabinet for my birthday.
Nice!
Apparently I knew enough at 5 years old to be a world class Galaga player.
why do the bullets shoot so fast in this one compared to other versions of the game i play on?
@8:40 people who don't appreciate how difficult video games are... They are common... I swear it's due to ignorance. Coolest thing I have ever seen ever
one very first screen of shoot all bugs EXCEPT the two on the bottom corners. Let them fly past you for twenty minutes, then they stop firing. Now you kill them and no bugs on future screens will shoot anymore.
When taking about the differences in kill screens I think he's saying Rank A B C and D. What does that mean? I'm not familiar with rankings like that. Maybe he means Galaga hardware board revisions?
True facts my guy!!! Thank you for sharing the valuable information about Galaga!

Incredible
Nice video and very interesting content. I love old arcade games and had a local arcade in my hometown that some of my family knew the owners. They would let me use the key sometimes to toggle a switch for free credits to play. I would never ask them for the key but they would always offer when I ran out of quarters. Over the years I’ve been spoiled and now as a 41 year old adult gamer I love my PlayStation 4 and such. One day I’ll get a PS5 when they become a little cheaper. With all that said as much as I loved the old arcade style games the graphics on games has come almost photo realistic in some games. I got spoiled to the point it’s hard to go back and play games like Galaga and enjoy them like I used to.
Thank you !
I’m 2nd place on Galaga what is his score and that Galaga looks different from mine
there is a bug where you can disable the game from dropping bombs. on the first wave, shoot all bugs except the two blue/yellow bugs that load on the left. Then let them keep coming after you over and over. When they come down 4 times without dropping bombs, shoot them on the 5th time they come down, and the game will never drop bombs... (May take 5-20 minutes for this to work) Works on arcade or in MAME
He has the marathon record now.
