I personally think the Anime was beautiful. Call me crazy but it's the best Anime I've ever seen. Quite honestly, I could really relate to the show and it's taken a massive place in my heart. To see it so underrated makes me quite sad.
Ikr I cried so hard when Kujo was captured when saying bye to Victorique and she cried in the window. I also cried when they were showing Kujo in the military, when he had shaved hair, when the Warden tried to take Victorique's ring from him and he let himself get beat up so he could keep it. Completely shattered my heart. I love Kujo so much xD
Holy shit this anime is underrated! The sudden shift in tone and continuity does boggle your mind for the worst, but the ending was just so humbling and that's what any series really needs. 7.2/10
The main problems was... The villain of the series...... I was thinking he was trying to do something elaborate big and to why he would but. The problem is that his plans and charecters is uninteresting and have been seen in other series......... You could say it was rushed ...hell you could have another 5 more episodes to see how long it took them to get back together again which would of been interesting and nice to see. Yes it is underrated but I can see the problems of why it's not underrated.........If you know what I mean. When I saw this anime I loved and liked it. I loved because of what it was and liked it because it's trying to be something good but again it has its problems but nothing major.
super17a ; every anime has major problem. but some anime that is overrated have more problem than gosick, it not overrated bec it not like mainstream anime, and some see the anime by the cover
I have to disagree with this, sorry, but I have to. Gosick for me was a truly beautiful anime, one that has been overlooked sadly and I loved it. The whole relationship between its Main Characters is what carries the show. The mystery element was the second element to carry it, along with the plot that was skimming underneath and becoming more prominent towards the end of the anime. I related to both two characters easily and cared about them a lot. The struggles, the issues and how it all tied together at the end. The side characters were lacking in comparison, and only had one purpose/motive for being there but still, they were likable enough. They might have been cut outs but they were not annoying that I wanted to pick up a lamp and smash myself over the head repeatedly. It's one of those animes that was unique to me, and could incorporate the whole supernatural element without needing to go so far beyond the bullshit line that nothing makes sense. It was very realistic and relatable. Gosick deserved an 8 at least and I would vote it 10.
8? I don't think it deserves that. A 7.5 at best is more likely. The characters weren't really that interesting, only the main character carried the entire show as Arkada stated. Some of the many ways that Victorique solves a mystery just doesn't make much sense and that takes away the enjoyment and thrills you're expected to see. A realistic mystery anime would be 'Monster', as it doesn't really use any type of supernatural element to help elevate the story.
@@RevOptimism I know this is old as fuck but oh well. The anime isn't suppoed to be focused on Mystery, that just works as a first context to introduce the story, because it's more about their companionship/relationship than the whole mystery thing. So reviewing this considering it a mystery type anime when it really isn't is a wrong way to approach it in my opinion. More like a romance and drama kind of anime with a little bit of mystery which lacks certain elements as you stated. Monster on the other hand, as you said is the real Mystery genre.
@@kurokamireaper3761 may have been 6 years late but il just say it he can like whatever he wants its his taste and opinions i love gosick not my favorite but i do love it a lot
I've viewed numerous reviews from you; and I must say..I feel you should voice something. Whether it be helping a fan dub, voicing a parody, anything. It would simply be entertaining.
there's a sequel to the light novel called Gosick Red. I heard that Victorique is supposed to be a private detective in New York. Hopefully they'll also turn that into an anime... in a few years or so.
Seville isn't entirely fictional. It was for a long time a separate country. It was one of the nations France conquered and eventually assimilated. Others are Bordeaux and Brittany. Brittany was a mountainous peninsula so it was hard to conquer and was the last one to resist France. Bordeaux had some of the most fertile lands in Europe and that made it extremely desirable which despite being the most powerful of the 3 made it the primary target. Wine from Bordeaux is still famed today. Seville was by far the most developed nation due to it's mix of French and Italian culture.
I watched "Dantalian no Shoka" at the time of watching Gosick and I found so many similarities (especially the main characters being mirrors of each another) that it's amazing they appeared at similar time.
i personally really enjoys the series and really liked it, although i will agree with you on a lot of the points that you made. id just like to mention that according to people who've read the novels(in the original japanese as only 2 novels are available in english), a hell load of characterization was taken out, and many interesting parts were removed due to time constraints.... i mean they did throw 8 novels into only 24 episodes, so yeah. it couldve been better. but if your looking for a mystery try this seasons Rokka no Yuusha, it takes about 3-4 episodes for the mystery to truly start but it is rather good
its pretty satisfying for a anime ending but def not 100%. they got married but where was the ring on the finger and their kiss?!? where was the KISS?!?! Kujo wanted to tell her something when he got back, where was the "daisuki desu" leading to the tsun tsun dere dere moment? although this all sounds very fan service-y.
oh so they were just playing dress-ups? Kujo said he wanted to tell Victorique something that he has been meaning to say (obviously that he loves her), the end did seem a bit rushed, idk what the novel was like.
the mystery part of this anime isn't really the usual detective type of mystery, where you have to take notes and work out what's going on, because you have to be incredibly knowledgeable to be able to deduce anything, which to me, was a flaw for the mystery side of this.
+Oly1y Its basically Sherlock Holmes the anime, if you've ever read those books Sherlock pulls about as much BS revelations out of nothing as Victorique.
I didnt like your review ( theyre usually really good though) You wanted mystery and detective cases from Gosick, well Gosick wasn't this type of anime and you shouldn't have reviewed by your wrong expectations Loads of people prefered the actual story than the detective cases in Gosick ( as these cases were just really bad)
I hate this review, when I first watched this review I was put off watching the show, because he makes it sound like a crappy attempt of a mystery anime. So I watched Higurashi instead (which turned out to be a crappy attempt of a mystery anime in my opinion). Anyway my point is, while I respect other peoples opinions, Gosick isn't actually a mystery focused anime to begin with. Sure, it looks like one, and the necessary elements are there, but it's core focus is the relationship between Victorique and Kazuya. It's more of a companion/romance anime than anything else, the mystery part was just their to replace the typical harem aspect found in most other romance animes. If you go into this show expecting a good mystery, then, like Arkaka, you're going to be disappointed. However if you go in with an open mindset like I did, then I think you'll find something quite unique and unexpected. Sorry for the long read, I just don't feel this review does the show justice.
This got to be the most accurate opition i have read in a while about this anime. Indeed right you are. I first thought it would be focused in Mystery and i was liking the idea because it was different from what i was used to watch, but then it became something entirely different and to be honest i liked that quite a lot. Was a unique experiencie for me, enjoyed the anime a lot, the relationship between them, the character development there was and the drama and the barriers at the end they struggled with to be together again. Was indeed a good experience.
Just finished this show. From my perspective, the story is a masterpiece. I can't describe the ending enough just by words, it was depressing, touching, and happy mixed in one. Recommended for those who haven't watched it.
there was a mistery manga I remember reading some years back and I really enjoyed it, and I know they made an anime of it, the name was spiral, I haven't watch the anime but I liked the manga
But i love both Gosick and No. 6. Does anyone know what happened to her hair? Did she die it silver? And that scene with his legs. Does he have fake ones now? Were they fixed up by a medic? What war were they fighting anyway? I think it was supposed to be WWII, but wasn't the 1920's the period between the two great wars? What?
'Anime can't have a good mystery series' .... How about one of the longest running, full-episode anime of all time - Detective Conan. They DO stick the the mystery-of-the-week thing for the most part (with some sparse story elements in between). It is EXTREMELY good at what it does (as long as you can get past the fact it's 813 episodes).
@@MJ-uk6lu Erased is awesome. Danganronpa though.... Ehhhh. I don't know if you've played the game but I found playing the game completely ruined getting any enjoyment of the show. When you see how much they missed.
For those looking for a good mystery anime I recommened Spiral. It's kinda old having come out in the early 2000s and both the english dub acting and animation aren't the best but the mysterys are very creative and make you think.
Okay everyone. want mysteries? Don't go to Gosick. Want Romance? Go to Gosick. Plain and simple because the fact remains that as all of what arcada says is true to some degree, I think if you switch gear and see it for the romance it is perfect.
***** agreed and when ever he reviews an anime brought by the same director/author (gurren lagann-kill la kill..cowboy bebop-samurai champloo) he keeps bringing up their other works and keeps on saying bad things about the 2nd work theyve made while comparing them with the old work its pretty annoying champloo is champloo and kill la kill is kill la kill
Although Gosick was my favorite and will always be one of my favorites, I can understand why you would dislike it, if you went for the mystery by mystery case scenario instead of the romance and the plot of the story, then obviously the second half will be not much of interest.
It is one of my favorites and I'll admit it was jarring and a wild ride that is indeed very, very confusing. Still, I loved the main story and character development. Gotta disagree with his thoughts on the sound though. Its music is - to me- incredibly unique and amazing. Resuscitated Hope is forever a favorite.
Why didn't they ever answer the question why when victorique first met kujo why she was waiting for him and how she never approaches anyone she doesn't know and when kujo asked why she didn't hide from him she didn't answer. They didn't answer this in the anime at all??
This question has nagged me since I finished the series and I reckon this question is the question which has nagged me the most ever since I started watching anime. VICTORIQUE Y U NO GIV US ANSR??
Kenneth Moua they said in the very first episode her well spring of knowledge told her he would be coming, and that he would come tomorrow at 12, and he did.
Kenneth Moua Hmmmmm..... I think that's because Kujo visited the library often and the 2 of them has one thing in common: They're both treated like they're ghosts, monsters, etc.
I also like mystery anime and yes, they are freakin' hard to find. As for another mix of horror and mystery, could I suggest you look into Boogiepop? I honestly fell in love with it but it's NOT for everyone. You will need to try it and see if it's your cup of tea. Though, it's a lot more mystery-oriented than horror. Hope you like it, though.
If you are looking for a good anime series that centers on mystery, one option you can look at is a series titled "Monster" There is both a sub and a dub version of the show so feel free to watch either or both at your own leisure.
Does anyone know what the intro music is at the very start by any chance? The piano that lasts about 6 seconds. It sounds so familliar and drives me crazy.
9:42 I'm kinda confused? He said it would be the least popular after like "idk No. 6 or something". It's hard for me to tell if he meant that it would behind more popular ones like no. 6, or if it would replace no.6 as the least popular one. Does he like No. 6 or not?
I just found your channel today and ive just watched a majority of your anime reviews and they are all amazing! you should definitely check out this show called hyouka. its new and the season just ended. Probably one of the best anime ive seen in quite a long time. Great job on the videos and keep up the good work.
Gosick is actually a japanese word for Gothic ゴシック - Goshikku hence the main protagonist being gothic. Japan sure have a weird way to name things ei. Gosick could be for gothic or the show being wicked sick
For anyone watching this review in 2017 Gosick is available for legal streaming on Funimation, at least in the US not sure about anywhere else. Great review as always!
Watched it, and first half is really good. Vitorique is a cute version of Sherlock Holmes. Kazuya is basically Watson (narrator, the only friend, the one that brings the mystery). Grevil represent Gregson and Lestrade. Really, look it up, first half is pure Holmes. And THIS WAS GREAT! really fun to watch and very interesting... until the "plot" kicks in. I would love if the plot was way simpler. Grevil started as a good secondary character and ended as nobody, really, at the end he is just a bridge between Victorique and her father. If you like Holmes, watch it, if you like mystery, watch it.
Is it just me or does Victoric look like shinku from Rozën Maiden I swear they are close to identical just change the clothes around and I bet the only way you'll be able to tell them apart is if you know small details unique to 'them' like if you agree
I too am a fan of mystery, so I was excited when I heard you introduce this, and was ready to go watch an episode............. and then I heard the rest of your review. I think the anime Hyouka managed the mystery thing very nicely. You should do a review on that. It's nice to see you do reviews on anime you like once in a while, cause then I get a recommendation to see a good anime I might not have seen before
I like how the map used is "between the wars" era. With Poland being free (post ww1) and Germany's pre 1938 borders. edit: he said before watching the review long enough for the second world war to be implied
[SPOILERS] In my opinion, the last 6 or so episodes of Gosick were the best. I loved how "the gale" blew and separated Kujo and Victorique by sending Kujo off to war. The first half did interest me, but once we learn about Victorique's past and origin, I was drawn in. I would say that episode 18 and after were the best. And I will admit, they made me cry at times. I rated Gosick a 10 on my MAL. myanimelist.net/animelist/Igneel_Grandine
The last episodes were the best especially how Kujo basically defies his commander and refuses to give up what I think was a pendant (Can't remember) but that showed strong growth.
Hey GR, you mentioned in this video that it is hard for you to come across a mystery anime. I do remember reading a manga a while back called Kindaichi Case Files. I know that there was an anime produced in Japan and never released in North America to my knowledge. However it was a mystery anime/manga with a slight turn into the horror genre. I've always had difficulty finding it, but if you can find it then it'd probably be something that'd interest you. Plus, I'd be ecstatic to know that there's a way to find the original season anywhere. Thanks for your work, really appreciate your reviews!
It may be because I just barely finished show 10 minutes ago at the writing of this comment, and I enjoyed it to such a degree I was going to disagree with any negative points made, but there you are. I disagree with your appraisal of the "actual plot" being, as you put it "kind of s---." I enjoyed the show throughout, from the early mystery of the week to the darker plot at the end, part of both which had me tearing, then crying like a little girl several times. In retrospect I see the points you, and others, have issue with, but think it could have been worse too. The transition was dealt with rather well in my opinion and becomes a tragedy war romance story very well, if somewhat throwing the mystery aspect to the wayside. It makes me think it wasn't really ever meant to be truly mystery in the first place, even though more than half the show focuses on mystery solving. I was half expecting, and sort of half hoping, actual supernatural phenomena to take place, but I am also glad it didn't take that route which certainly would most likely have been worse. Not that it could have gone tat route since its based on existing light novels. Well worth the watch if you like mystery, even if you don exactly like what it becomes, and on the note of what it becomes, worth the watch if you like dark stories of political upheaval, tragedy and a romance with a rocky road to its conclusion.
Arkada, what's the poster behind your left ear? It's between the Evangelion and lain posters and you're blocking it for most of the video (I'm not complaining; ya gotta do what ya gotta do).
Not a bad review! I appreciate that you recognized the less impressive elements of the show for what they were, but personally, I love this anime to death. It feels like the best thing since Gurren Lagann to me, though you would appreciate it for completely different reasons. From the moment it began to the moment it ended I was enthralled by its ambiance and its mysteries as the truth was revealed through the fog of superstition and deceit. The contrast of the legitimately creepy moments of the show with the sweet and curious nature Victorique can bring out of it at times made it very entertaining. I'll admit though, I'm biased since the soundtrack and animation left me star-struck by working in tandem, and because I was able to enjoy a quality anime that was completely free of fan-service. The one thing I don't feel you emphasized though is how well executed this really was. In spite of how simple the formula for the show and the majority of its characters were, the execution of these simple ideas came together very well in implementation. I think most can agree there's a world of a difference between having an idea and executing it. By the way, "Mystic Archives of Dantalian" is far better than "Rosen Maiden" if you want to experience something similar to this show. Just thought I'd mention that.
Yo, Arcada, I really dig your Reviews. Thanks for the contribution to quality reviews everywhere. I would really like if you could possibly do a review for Hiroyuki Imaishi and Kazuki Nakashimas newest work, Kill La Kill. That is, whenever the series comes to a conclusion. Thanks for the consideration. Again, I would REALLY appreciate it.
Okay, I just finished the first five episodes, and my initial impressions are not favourable. For a mystery, it's not well written which is a disappointment, because that's what a mystery relies on. Victorique often presents conjecture as evidence, which everyone seems to accept without asking for something more concrete. Of course, since she's the main character and is made out to be the 'all-knowing' little genius, her conjecture is always correct. For a mystery, evidence, facts and circumstances are everything, so I'm hoping you see why that bothers me. Since mysteries should often allow the audience to form their own theories, the show doesn't encourage it, as Victorique often employs the use of her 'fountain of wisdom' to ascertain 'truth' when she hasn't even investigated the crime scene herself. To present an example on the above, in episode 4, a man riding a motorcycle had his head cut off by some wire that he rode past in the forest. Victorique then proceeded to identify the killer as a woman or child. What bothered me there was that she didn't say it was 'likely that the killer was a woman or child', but the fact that she stated it as fact without evidence. I also found the actions of the antagonists to be dubious. In episode 3, the woman in the red dress confessed to orchestrating the ship ride without having any decisive evidence pressed against her. All Victorique said was that her habit of pacing back and forth (which was more conjecture) and the gun in her purse, and the woman in red gave up without resisting. Another example is in episode 4, when the girl impersonating Avril went to hide the book in the library, she chose to hide it in a relatively high level in the building. Normally, when one tries to hide something, they'd be in a more panicked state and would try to minimise the amount of time they spend doing so to avoid being seen, so how come she didn't hide it on the ground floor? Victorique had mentioned that she hid it based on a peculiar ghost story involving 'The 13th Step', but why bother? It was the real Avril that had an affinity for ghost stories anyway. You might say I'm being pedantic, but I at least expect a certain level of attention to detail when handling a mystery story.
You are asking too much from modern anime... Nowadays it's made to impress with visuals and to pander to perverts. Gosick is all about some new "gothic lolita" in the character design department and nothing else. Since that's all the show has that is special. All the rest is cliché and boring, it had potential but nothing came out of it. It's like a little more sophisticated Zero no Tsukaima, better animated and like someone said with mysteries instead of a harem.
I think it can done. Anime just needs to loosen its emphasis on fanservice as a crutch and they'll be able to achieve so much more. There's not that many mystery anime so I'll keep on hoping.
I'd loved to see his opinion on the ost of Mekakucity Actors considering half of the songs are from the song project and are on their own, stand alone songs
I dunno. I actually loved the second half, just as much or more than the second half. I thought the romance was sweet, and I loved some of the side characters. Although I'm not a critic, just a fan who wants some enjoyment, and I got just that with Gosick. Great review Arkada.
Personally I loved this anime and the way it all came together the plot made a lot of sense and having the rape and darker part really defined how hard Victoria's life was and gave her a back story the side characters did a great job of being side characters and the show always kept my interest Though the ending was less impressive then the actual show
Since you say you like mystery, have you tried Kamisama no memochuu (Kamimemo or Heaven's memo pad)? As far as Gosick I did enjoy it and the mystery elements were still there in the latter half. I like finding out more about Cordelia Gallo.
1) Did anyone else know, that opening coppies (actually totally really) style of Alfons Mucha, czech graphical artist? No? Look it up. 2) That wire "mystery" - was I the only one who solved it at the moment I saw what happend?
As far as mystery anime goes, you also might enjoy Heaven's Memo Pad. I'm only 5 episodes in at the moment, but I'm enjoying the show's mysteries, though I thought the one from episode five was particularly obvious.
Hey Arkada, you've probably already seen it but if not, the series UN-GO is a pretty good detective series. Granted it does have heavy supernatural aspects to it. It's also by Bones and even came out the same year as Gosick. I always recommend it to people who ask for mystery/detective anime, so I suggest you give it a shot if not already (It's also pretty short, so it's a speedy watch)!
Have you heard of Un-go? Since you like a good mystery, you would probably like it. I will say, though, it does involve fantasy as a plot point. Like Gosick, it is a mystery by the week style, but, unlike gosick, when it decides it wants to get serious, instead of changing the tone of the show too drastically, it simply introduces a bigger, darker mystery. Not to mention that the idea behind the "title" of the main character is pretty original, and I would like it if more anime made use of that sort of reasoning when creating protagonists.
Have you watched Majjin Tantei Nogami Neuro? I watched it a while ago, and remember it being somewhat decent. I would love to hear your thoughts since it is supposed to be a mystery.
Can someone please tell me what episode of Gosick is when the main plot starts and when the mystery stuff ends please? I'm trying hard to watch this but don't like the mystery thing a whole lote....but I'm hoping the main plot with help me like it more x.x
Victorica - pronunced like the Japanese version was the name of my grandmother. She was so beautiful. I love Gosick as a mystery - romance and have the ending song on my phone. I love watching and re- watching this anime.
Do you have any plans to review Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru? I found it very similar to this show, but executed better as they focus more on the characters.
Hyouka was an entertaining mystery anime. Youd think a high school mystery would be stupid but Hyouka's mysteries were original, all conveying a talent vs hard work type of theme.
Hey GRArkada, I recommend watching Ghost Hunt (it's on netflix), it's a mystery anime that sounds kind of similar to Gosick (maybe) only with supernatural elements and no overarching storyline. Its just like a bunch of mysteries one after another that sort of escalate till the end.
only one thing to say about your want for a mystery anime.... it's really not possible unless you expect it to go on for ever, and ever and ever and then end abruptly as one character dies or some shit like that just sayin
I went into Gosick not searching for a crime solving mystery story, but rather a romance mystery story where not much is known about what is happening. I got what I wanted and even shed a few tears at the end.

Knight Guardian you should watch EVAbridged
Ramiro Rae Okay, I'll go do that! What is it though?
It's an abridged series that gigguk made from Evangelion with the guys from PodTaku
Ramiro Rae Oh, awesome! I'll go check it out!
I really loved this anime its last episode was a beautiful ending.
there's a sequel to the light novel called Gosick Red. I heard that Victorique is supposed to be a private detective in New York. Hopefully they'll also turn that into an anime... in a few years or so.
Check out the anime Hyoka for mystery only.
I watched "Dantalian no Shoka" at the time of watching Gosick and I found so many similarities (especially the main characters being mirrors of each another) that it's amazing they appeared at similar time.
i personally really enjoys the series and really liked it, although i will agree with you on a lot of the points that you made. id just like to mention that according to people who've read the novels(in the original japanese as only 2 novels are available in english), a hell load of characterization was taken out, and many interesting parts were removed due to time constraints.... i mean they did throw 8 novels into only 24 episodes, so yeah. it couldve been better.
but if your looking for a mystery try this seasons Rokka no Yuusha, it takes about 3-4 episodes for the mystery to truly start but it is rather good
The ending was really satisfying though.
It was 100%
its pretty satisfying for a anime ending but def not 100%.
they got married but where was the ring on the finger and their kiss?!? where was the KISS?!?! Kujo wanted to tell her something when he got back, where was the "daisuki desu" leading to the tsun tsun dere dere moment?
although this all sounds very fan service-y.
MrHakisak they didn't get married. And I didn't feel they're was a NEED for a kiss
oh so they were just playing dress-ups? Kujo said he wanted to tell Victorique something that he has been meaning to say (obviously that he loves her), the end did seem a bit rushed, idk what the novel was like.
few things I'm confuse the ending is 1 her hair change color and 2 did the boy lose his legs or was it a dream?
I have been watching you since the beginning, and every damn time I am amazed at your editing skills.
the mystery part of this anime isn't really the usual detective type of mystery, where you have to take notes and work out what's going on, because you have to be incredibly knowledgeable to be able to deduce anything, which to me, was a flaw for the mystery side of this.
guess I'm just too stupid for these sorts of things.
+Oly1y Its basically Sherlock Holmes the anime, if you've ever read those books Sherlock pulls about as much BS revelations out of nothing as Victorique.
+Garrett Henze I thought so. it seemed familiar to what I've seen of sherlock holmes.
At this point, I have come to greatly trust Arkada's reviews~ :3 Thank you for giving each of these anime a fair and honest review, Arkada!
I didnt like your review ( theyre usually really good though)
You wanted mystery and detective cases from Gosick, well Gosick wasn't this type of anime and you shouldn't have reviewed by your wrong expectations
Loads of people prefered the actual story than the detective cases in Gosick ( as these cases were just really bad)
Detective conan is like 100% pure mystery but I don't know if anyone still watch it... The storyline is good though...
I'd like to see a mystery-focused second season with better mysteries.
So trueeeee lol
Higurasgi is a personal favorite so I am biased but I really liked Gosick. They are both great
The problem with this angle of approach in defending the show is that it's an even worse romance anime than it is a mystery anime
Just finished this show. From my perspective, the story is a masterpiece. I can't describe the ending enough just by words, it was depressing, touching, and happy mixed in one. Recommended for those who haven't watched it.
weirdly enough, when I think of mystery, instead of higurashi and umineko, I think of hyouka.
Jup me too hyouka is very good in my opinion :)
I love Hyouka!
i just finished gosick. i felt nothing before watching it but as soon as i got to the end, it’s like my nothing felt nothing.
there was a mistery manga I remember reading some years back and I really enjoyed it, and I know they made an anime of it, the name was spiral, I haven't watch the anime but I liked the manga
What?
Evelyne Elric She had the Marie Antoinette Syndrome: her hair became silver/White after a big pain.
and for his legs it was just a dream i think
Miuu reminds me of kanon
'Anime can't have a good mystery series'
....
How about one of the longest running, full-episode anime of all time - Detective Conan. They DO stick the the mystery-of-the-week thing for the most part (with some sparse story elements in between). It is EXTREMELY good at what it does (as long as you can get past the fact it's 813 episodes).
Also Erased, Another, Danganronpa...
@@MJ-uk6lu Erased is awesome. Danganronpa though.... Ehhhh. I don't know if you've played the game but I found playing the game completely ruined getting any enjoyment of the show. When you see how much they missed.
@@TurtwigGirl I found it pretty decent, but yeah haven't played the game. I think that anime was fine as is.
@@MJ-uk6lu Definitely suggest playing the series dude. It's pretty great
For those looking for a good mystery anime I recommened Spiral. It's kinda old having come out in the early 2000s and both the english dub acting and animation aren't the best but the mysterys are very creative and make you think.
Okay everyone. want mysteries? Don't go to Gosick. Want Romance? Go to Gosick. Plain and simple because the fact remains that as all of what arcada says is true to some degree, I think if you switch gear and see it for the romance it is perfect.
but it's still detective
Yogi- Sama Yes that is true. But its strongest aspect of the series is its Romance.
the first half set off as a mystery anime but the romance grew and became a more focal point.
***** I would agree to that.
There is near 0 romantic payoff
that was a long wait for a new review ! anyway good job , keep up the good work
for gosick you liked the first half gave it 6.58
for SAO you hated the entire show 7.50
how does ur rating system work im curious :p
Lol it's total bullshit. Arkada makes good videos but he panders to the mainstream and a lot of his opinions are shit.
***** agreed and when ever he reviews an anime brought by the same director/author (gurren lagann-kill la kill..cowboy bebop-samurai champloo) he keeps bringing up their other works and keeps on saying bad things about the 2nd work theyve made while comparing them with the old work its pretty annoying champloo is champloo and kill la kill is kill la kill
more equals less in his book xD
He takes the average from the five things he rates in the anime.
That happened because Yuki Kajiura and epic animation.
Damn this anime was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy better than I thought it to be.
It was way worse for me
Although Gosick was my favorite and will always be one of my favorites, I can understand why you would dislike it, if you went for the mystery by mystery case scenario instead of the romance and the plot of the story, then obviously the second half will be not much of interest.
@@MokohiChan I played the opening song almost more often than any other opening anime song.
Love at first sight maybe?
MONONOKE!
ForseMaster Mononoke?
messyzephyr
Best supernatural/mystery anime ever.
Ah. I had thought of Princess Mononoke.
Thanks! I have a new anime to watch!
If you are looking for a good anime series that centers on mystery, one option you can look at is a series titled "Monster" There is both a sub and a dub version of the show so feel free to watch either or both at your own leisure.
Gosick in a nutshell
- Kujo: "VICTORIQUE!"
- Victorique: "Baka Kujo."
Does anyone know what the intro music is at the very start by any chance? The piano that lasts about 6 seconds. It sounds so familliar and drives me crazy.
Hey you said you like mystery anime. You should most definitely check out Hyouka. Hyouka is pretty much anime Sherlock. Do it up!!
9:42 I'm kinda confused? He said it would be the least popular after like "idk No. 6 or something". It's hard for me to tell if he meant that it would behind more popular ones like no. 6, or if it would replace no.6 as the least popular one. Does he like No. 6 or not?
6:40 HIS IS THE HAIR THAT WILL PIERCE THROUGH THE HEAVENS!
I just found your channel today and ive just watched a majority of your anime reviews and they are all amazing! you should definitely check out this show called hyouka. its new and the season just ended. Probably one of the best anime ive seen in quite a long time. Great job on the videos and keep up the good work.
so its basically sherlock Holmes with the Watson viewpoint and everything.
Gosick is actually a japanese word for Gothic ゴシック - Goshikku
hence the main protagonist being gothic. Japan sure have a weird way to name things ei. Gosick could be for gothic or the show being wicked sick
You really should do a review for Hyouka, mystery genre, beautiful backgroungs and from KyoAni ;)
6:40 hair goals 👏👏👏
update: Funimation will be releasing it on Bluray/DVD with a dub soon.
fucking love Gosick
Is it just me or does Victoric look like shinku from Rozën Maiden I swear they are close to identical just change the clothes around and I bet the only way you'll be able to tell them apart is if you know small details unique to 'them' like if you agree
if you enjoyed this for mystery and cuteness I suggest an anime called hyouka
Suggest me something like this one
I too am a fan of mystery, so I was excited when I heard you introduce this, and was ready to go watch an episode............. and then I heard the rest of your review. I think the anime Hyouka managed the mystery thing very nicely. You should do a review on that.
It's nice to see you do reviews on anime you like once in a while, cause then I get a recommendation to see a good anime I might not have seen before
did anyone realise that u can see all the plot in the op?????????
Randia Ashburn yeah, it's something you can see only After watching all the show
Once again...you hit the nail in the head. I agree with your score on this one too, and it must have been hard since it seemed like you enjoyed it!
i guess you've never seen detective conan that shit was dope
I like how the map used is "between the wars" era. With Poland being free (post ww1) and Germany's pre 1938 borders.
edit: he said before watching the review long enough for the second world war to be implied
[SPOILERS]
In my opinion, the last 6 or so episodes of Gosick were the best.
Kayla U have good taste on anime
I disagree with your appraisal of the "actual plot" being, as you put it "kind of s---."
I enjoyed the show throughout, from the early mystery of the week to the darker plot at the end, part of both which had me tearing, then crying like a little girl several times.
Thank you!
Mr. Arkada i think this is what you are waiting for: Mirai Nikki OP [HQ] 1080p
P.D: Sorry for my bad english
Just thought I'd mention that.
i actually enjoyed no 6 a lot.
Personally I loved this anime and the way it all came together the plot made a lot of sense and having the rape and darker part really defined how hard Victoria's life was and gave her a back story the side characters did a great job of being side characters and the show always kept my interest
Though the ending was less impressive then the actual show
Shanrock animelover i personally love your face
i think gosick deserves a higher rating tho :P
For mystery stories, does it have to include elements of murders and deep plots? I personally enjoy everyday mystery stories like Hyōka much more.
Myanimelist gave this an 8.27 and you gave it a 6.52... I don't know who I should believe, lol.
MyAnimeList, definitely..
Arkada is usually a lot harsher on anime than other people lol
Arkada, myanimelist isn't always reliable with anime.
Since you say you like mystery, have you tried Kamisama no memochuu (Kamimemo or Heaven's memo pad)?
As far as Gosick I did enjoy it and the mystery elements were still there in the latter half. I like finding out more about Cordelia Gallo.
[6:41] HEY! I STYLE MY HAIR THAT WAY!
1) Did anyone else know, that opening coppies (actually totally really) style of Alfons Mucha, czech graphical artist? No? Look it up.
2) That wire "mystery" - was I the only one who solved it at the moment I saw what happend?
I am so happy that he enjoyed this ......somewhat..... because this is a VERY underrated anime.
As far as mystery anime goes, you also might enjoy Heaven's Memo Pad. I'm only 5 episodes in at the moment, but I'm enjoying the show's mysteries, though I thought the one from episode five was particularly obvious.
Detective Conan?
how about hyouka? It's a pretty good anime
Gosick? What about Gocure?
XD
Hey Arkada, you've probably already seen it but if not, the series UN-GO is a pretty good detective series. Granted it does have heavy supernatural aspects to it. It's also by Bones and even came out the same year as Gosick. I always recommend it to people who ask for mystery/detective anime, so I suggest you give it a shot if not already (It's also pretty short, so it's a speedy watch)!
KAYABAAAAAAAAAAA
Have you heard of Un-go? Since you like a good mystery, you would probably like it. I will say, though, it does involve fantasy as a plot point. Like Gosick, it is a mystery by the week style, but, unlike gosick, when it decides it wants to get serious, instead of changing the tone of the show too drastically, it simply introduces a bigger, darker mystery. Not to mention that the idea behind the "title" of the main character is pretty original, and I would like it if more anime made use of that sort of reasoning when creating protagonists.
How do you watch this in the US? There's no DVD and it's not showing on any streaming site.
Hey Arkada love your reviews man! Would you consider doing one for Michiko and Hatchin?
It looks like its an anime that is based off of a visual novel with the main characters based on Sherlock Holmes (Victoric) and Watson (Kujo).
I've seen the anime but I have not gotten finished, have both died or did they really shop and he magically get his legs back?
Hyouka was an entertaining mystery anime. Youd think a high school mystery would be stupid but Hyouka's mysteries were original, all conveying a talent vs hard work type of theme.
Hey GRArkada, I recommend watching Ghost Hunt (it's on netflix), it's a mystery anime that sounds kind of similar to Gosick (maybe) only with supernatural elements and no overarching storyline. Its just like a bunch of mysteries one after another that sort of escalate till the end.
Thanks ark. Keep up the good work. Nice to see u getting used to the new place
I just realised that Gosick, if pronounced in the way katakana is pronounced in japan, would be go-siku, which would be gothic in english
only one thing to say about your want for a mystery anime.... it's really not possible unless you expect it to go on for ever, and ever and ever and then end abruptly as one character dies or some shit like that just sayin
