    Love it! But I'd shorten the stand offs for a more low profile look, and to minimize breaks during crashes.

      +Mr Mackey yap that's exactly where I'm heading with my design atm. I am already lower at 35mm instead of 40mm. But I want to go even lower, just leaving the front high so that it protects the camera. Maybe the top plate could even be at an angle? I'll make a follow up video :)

    The most important question is: Does it survive impacts? The carbon frames will break, too, but they can withstand quite a beating until then. Other tests show that PET-G is less impact resistant than PLA an will shatter quicker, despite it's higher toughness. Also, PET-G is not stiff enough, your motors will probably vibrate after a few flights which is the death of the motor / ESC..

    Looks good, I'm surprised how tough it is!

    • @TheMikolasZuza
      @TheMikolasZuza  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks :) I've crashed it many many times and finally broke something, the top plate broke around one of the screw holes, probably due to all the force the camera and battery applied to it in crash. I've redesigned it a little bit and it seems much tougher. I also made a clip-on sidepanels to protect the inner parts/electronics and it also prevents the cables frombeeing able to hang out. I'll make a video about the changes when I find some time for it :)

    • @BOSSFPV
      @BOSSFPV 7 лет назад

      Top plates are always breaking even on carbon frames, sounds like yours is pretty tough. I'll keep an eye out for your updates

    Cool Video! I also build my drones with 3D printed parts and I have to say they fly very well. Of course they are not as strong as professional frames but you can just print spare parts when you need them.

      RS2205, you can buy the original EMAX version for 50 bucks (4 pieces) or you can go with the readytosky clone version for 22 bucks.

    Very good work! Don't you have any problems of (to much) adhesion of petg on the pei printbed?

    • @TheMikolasZuza
      @TheMikolasZuza  7 лет назад

      +François-Xavier Wiart A little bit. It depends on the contact area. If the bed contact area is really big, then I usually use raft to make it easier to lift from.bed. But smaller parts like the drones parts are usually pretty easy to remove.

    • @fxFRA27
      @fxFRA27 7 лет назад

      Mikolas 3D Printing , thank you for your reply. Ok for the raft. And do you prepare the bed with something (glue or anything else?) to prevent to much sticking?

    • @TheMikolasZuza
      @TheMikolasZuza  7 лет назад

      +François-Xavier Wiart I almost always clean my bed with a really quick light wipe with acetone (paper towel with a bit of acetone).
      I've tried to add glue to create a separation layer, but honestly I'm not sure if it was better or worse. If your first layer sticks ok, but it's impossible to remove the print, then maybe even touching the PEI with hands and not cleanong it might help, thats what I sometimes do.

    bro please update links. some pages is not working.

    • @TheMikolasZuza
      @TheMikolasZuza  4 года назад

      The video is 3 years old. Honestly, so much has changed in those 3 years in the drone industry, that I don't think any of the links are really relevant anymore.
      These days I would go with an all-in-one board a depending on the budget, maybe even with a digital video system.

    weight of frame and total drone weight?!
    also what's the infill %for pla 3d print?

    • @TheMikolasZuza
      @TheMikolasZuza  7 лет назад

      About 110g total with hardware. The arms should be really high infill (50%+, honestly 100% works well here and the weight difference isn't big). The rest can be normal infill like 20-30%.
      I have modified the drone heavily since I created this one, but the general shape is simmilar.
      Total weight without battery and GoPro is 480g.

    What camera is that? If its the firefly. What model and how did you get it in that color?

    • @TheMikolasZuza
      @TheMikolasZuza  7 лет назад

      It's Xiaomi Yi, one of the most popular GoPro alternatives. It costs only 100$, the only downside is no 4K, only 2.5K@30. (But still much better then cheap 4K action cameras that have terrible image)

    • @TheMikolasZuza
      @TheMikolasZuza  7 лет назад

      To be honest the one in the video isn't ideal. It's way too big, but not curved, so somewhat visible in the video. Since then I moved to a new one. Just search for "Xiaomi Yi UV filter 37mm.
