Hey I’m just starting to learn fingerstyle Just wondering if you use your pinkie on the picking hand and how often if you do? Or should I just mainly focus on 3 or 4 in the beginning?
Hi Dylan. No, I don't use my pinkie for plucking, and I do not recommend it. Mostly because of it's tone. Feel free to give it a try but do not push yourself so hard. Always remember that there was a reason for finger style legends to not using it!

You can't imagine how it improve your playing techniques. 2nd: learn some 4/4 and 3/4 arpeggios on basic chords. 3rd: Cover the songs you love. Which you have listened to hundred times. These 3 steps will take about 4 to 6 months if you practice 1 hours a day.
