The impact of Krillin dying, followed by the meaninglessness that followed when everyone realized the dragon balls could just wish him back to life, is definitely what led Oda to his plot with Ace. He knew the first true non-backstory death would have to be something that everyone across Japan felt in their soul.
Honestly One Piece is what keeps me going in Life. I thank Oda so much , and I know millions of others have had the same impact. I hope he gets to realize that.

He will be remmembered and not forgotten. He might not be Alexander, but still having yourself immortalized is the legacy every man wish for.
Just a clarification: Japanese is a tricky language. This "i hate oda" interview with Kubo was done in a Radio show, with light joking mood, like "oh man, i didn't believed it!" not like "I really don't like this Oda guy." It is the SAME Oda said in a recent interview with Detective Conan's author, he said he "hated other authors, that they didn't deserve to beat Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X in the ranking", also saying he viewed them as "enemies" But again, just text translation doesn't get the nuances, tones, etc Kubo isn't the most outgoing mangaka, he's very private with his personal life and friendships. They are not friends, but not also hate each other, Oda even invited him to eat bbq. Please don't stir drama between them...
All the failed pronunciations in the video didn’t exactly give that much hope for completely accurate representations of the quoted info in the first place tbh.
many people think Oda is just locked in 1 room just drawing One piece while really he travels around alot and does interviews regularly. He even meet everyone on live action. Just because we dont see his pictures doesnt mean he doesnt go in public. Its just people respect that he dont want to show his face on public pictures. Few years ago i remember he was in a picture with a fan and the fan posted it public and everyone in the community got him banned.
true and people don't appreciate that oda genuinely is happy obsessing over one piece. There is no need for him to go so far as being part of one piece movies or the live action but the guy genuinely wants to do it, atleast hes fortunate enough to do what makes him happy while so many others hate what they do every single day
I don’t want Oda to work himself to death. It would break my heart, it would break his family’s heart, and it would break the whole world’s heart. Heck, when One Piece ends, I think the Japanese government should throw him the biggest party ever to thank him for everything!
I like how even though Oda was discouraged about not being able to take a walk with his child like Kishimoto, he didn't let that affect his story or cut it short even though he could've a long time ago(and rightfully so too). Instead he used that as motivation to continue to push forward . From someone going throug a art slump myself and have a rival art friend as well, I can definitely relate to this.
So much respect for Oda. As an aspiring manga artist myself, seeing how much Oda cares about the world and story he’s created and the love he has for his characters is amazing to me. Seriously though, the guy needs a break, and I’m glad he’s been taking more time off.
Oda is just that guy, that ine man army. One Piece has just become that series that has made me laugh cry and explode in excitement. I thank oda for just dedicación he have and when he finished the story he can be rhe freest he can be with his family
Oda worked so hard it's like he turned himself into a overpowered anime character even has its own list of abilities like the most overpowered anime characters have.
My Dad was kind of obsessive about work as well. He grew up in post-WW2 England (Liverpool) and he worked til the month he died at 82 years old. I would imagine this mentality is common in countries trying to rebuild themselves from devastating conflicts

Wow the quality of this video!! When one piece is over I hope there’s a trend on social media of people bowing and thanking Oda. To live in this age and read it every week. What a blessing.
You are going to get the one piece brotha thank you thank you and thank you so much for taking the time to give us this information it is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed
I I think there's a lot we can all learn from oda's career and work schedule it makes me wonder if someday someone will be able to make an improved version of that routine to get even better results by using the knowledge form oda's schedule to make one more suited for themselves which I think would be pretty cool to see.
There's nothing to learn in reality. Oda is part of a very rare breed of people who are compulsively obsessed with something. It's like a mental illness, even if it's one that works well for him. Unless you have it too, forget about it. 99.99% of people would never be able to work the way he does and would probably end up dead from it. Either way, it's super unhealthy and he'll pay for it one day (and even if he somehow doesn't, just think about everything he's missing out, like his daughter's entire life for example).
@@misterwhyte while it is true that some people are seemingly Born blessed with a mindset for success it's also true that people can change their mindset so even though oda is blessed with a good mindset that just shows the rest of us a certain mindset that works which will make copying it and even improving upon it easier cuz now we know the right way to succeed or at least you have some hints
@@izzymosley1970 It's not a mindset for success, it's a mental illness. For Oda it turned out to have made him a successful artist but you don't hear about the countless others who crashed and burned. Also, don't trust the countless RUclips influencers who'll tell you about sleeping 5h and other BS. You want to be successful? Just find something you want to be successful at, focus on that 100% and treat your body well by sleeping and eating properly, and also by exercising daily. Eventually you'll get there.
@@misterwhyte there is something to learn from oda's life and mindset because his career is public knowledge that means if someone was able to do something similar they would be able to get similar results just like any other training regimen do you know how someone else trained that means you can make your own version of that training to get similar results.
Really shocked me how you ended the video with the controversy thing with Oda. I think you probably should have mentioned how Oda has been able to take a lot more breaks in recent years, for a while it was 3 chapters and a break and while he still does it on occasion he has been taking more breaks lately which is a good sign, he also has that netflix show to worry about now, and im sure it was a huge relief for him to be able to take that month long break.

I’m glad that I was alive to be witnessing history being made. Thank you God for giving life to this man and blessing him with the skills and talents to spread his work. I’ll never forget One Piece for as long as I live. It undoubtedly changed my life for the better. Oda lives everything he teaches us in his story. His work ethic and success is the embodiment of everything One Piece is about. He focused on his dreams, made a decision that if he dies going for them, then it’s alright. And that’s reflected in everything he does. Oda, you’ll never see this, but thank you for everything. I wish nothing but the best. And fans, let’s continue on the journey. It’s almost over so let’s enjoy every single moment with no regrets! 7/14/23 6:05 PM
It's very typical for mangaka. It's not a 9-5 job, Kishimoto's brag about taking a walk with his kid was quite literal and his weekly schedule was posted online after Naruto finished. Mangaka have significantly shorter lifespans than the Japanese average, and almost all develop serious health issues due to the work schedule. Some of them are more open than others about their health issues. Kubo and Togashi for example have talked extensively about it, Toriyama has brought it up too. Oda is a bit unique in that he has both the clout and the willingness to give himself a (small) amount of time these days with One Piece officially being on a 10 day rather than 7 day production schedule which apparently allows him to now take a full day off every week, something quite rare in their industry.
I have been about one piece from early 2000s. I was watching it before I even knew what anime was really. This and dbz are what ultimately shaped my love for anime. Love Oda I just wish he could have more to his life and hope once he’s done with his amazing story that he has plenty of time with his family.
wow, that conflict though. As much as I love One Piece, I feel really bad for Oda’s daughter. I wonder if she hates manga as a result of how it kept her dad away from her for so long.
I've always wondered that. Do kids of most popular manga authors, hate their parents work? Does it turn them off working in the manga industry? Do they feel resentful?
@@rosemangofairy There's at least one I know of who followed in her dad's footsteps and became a mangaka (Paru Itagaki of Beastars). It's hard to say how many are resentful or inspired, but it's interesting to think about.
@@redgrave4492 That's good to hear. Maybe if it's full of love, joy and passion, the parent mangaka will inspire their kids positively, about the joys of chasing their dreams. Even if they may not see each other often. I have to say though, One Piece features a lot of deadbeat fathers 😅. Oda hasn't really been consistent in the way that characters react to it as well. You can see Ace and even Usopp struggling growing up without a father. Meanwhile, Luffy is just like 'Oh, I have a father?' 😺❓️
As someone who couldn't get into one piece when the English dub came out in the early 2000s. I decided to watch then read the series this year. The pacing is really bad in a lot of ways in the anime but there isn't really any wasted story or flub besides the Sanji troupe which was kinda funny when he found mermaids at fishmen island but still kinda over kill but whatever. Story is foreshadowed and connected quite well. Characters development and world development is superb. As someone who doesn't have one piece nostalgia this is still a touching and great story.
Or watch the live action. It cuts through the redundancies and shaved off a hundred chapters of comics or so within a season. Ot find the fanmade One Piece without filler. Or just read it like the other person said.
I'm a mangaka myself and also a big fan of Oda's work. Unfortanatelly the whole overwork thing is a problem foreign mangaka like me take over into new territories. Most of my German, Austrian or Swiss colleagues sacrificed their work life balance to publish as many books a year as possible. Pure stupidity but you can't switch this behavior off that easy.
Can i just say thank you for making this. I been following op for 16 years 🤷. My life sucks right now but i always can look forward to the next one piece chapter. When that end it be one of the saddest days in my life. It one of the things that make me grateful to be alive in the darkness

Y’all think Kuma becoming a mindless machine had something to do with Oda’s mindset? Also, isn’t it odd how the main theme of one piece is “freedom”, but Oda is the least free man in Japan?
I thought about Kuma as well! And also Bonney's situation if you are caught up (I'm only caught up with the anime tho lol) In a way, you indeed could say he is the least free man in Japan. Although, he's willingly chasing his dream and it's becoming a reality despite the huge sacrifices (kinda like some certain characters we know lol) I guess whether he finds it a priviledge or not is something we can't be entirely sure of But it's actually quite hard to define freedom. Some people argue in philosophy that the mere fact of chasing your dreams and sticking to them inherently takes away your freedom. But I digress lol, thx for making your comment!
Oda is the only creative in history to not only have kept his project alive for close to 30 years but also in the top 5 throughout those years. Now let that sink in.
The work ethic is insane . I learned a lot from this video , thank you! I just wish there was a better work life balance .. and that animators got properly paid over there in Japan . I mean all the crazy work hours show , Japanese animations are leagues above ours
Oda is Morden day Valmiki. Valmiki wrote Mahabharat the greatest spiritual saga ever. There are so many characters but somehow they all interlock each other and no character is meaningless. Similarly oda's created so many characters and somehow they all have meaning and important role down the road. Like little red Toy character in derosara, who turns out to be father of girl. And the villian with baby clothes who seems ridiculous at first but then later when story unfold it made everyone heart cryout loud, I didn't expect any of that. That's the beauty of one-piece. And not many people can write that kind of story. I wish Oda for good health and keep continuing the greatest work.
I recommend watching the anime until timeskip, after that, just read the manga and watch the best moments in the anime (anime handles the best/emotional moments better imo coz of the music, voice acting and animation).
The thing people have to keep in mind is when you feel oda is okay with watuski doing all of that... remember. Oda and watuski's staff were only under his supervision at the office, not outside of it... use your head
Y'all think watuski or anyone in that matter who does things like smuggling or other illegal activity they actively bring it and enforce it around their workplace.

I thought I was good at absorbing one piece story and industry related information, but your research is insane dude, another phenomenal video!
I’m so late in the anime game I binge watch bleach, Naruto, demon slayer and one piece now I can’t even wait a week for a new episode
Jesus bro work on your life
Now kids running through school yelling "THE ONE PIECE IS REALLLL!!!" while holding a jump.....
The legend continues...
Nobody does that
that and I WANT TO LIVE!!! might be the 2 best OP lines
That would be awesome to do, I am pretty sure the school I used to go to would deffinatly allow it, it was so chill. Also the fact that it happened during Oda's school days about dragon ball I think it would be perfect, someone just as to recorded it so he can see it
My son do. A 5 yo. Haha
Oda is trully a tragic hero one might say. He sacrificied so much to bring One piece to this point and I hope one day he is gonna finish it and retire entirely to enjoy the rest of the time he has alive. He dedicated himself to see his fantasy come to life and be enjoyed by millions of people and generations to come. Even if he perishes One piece will be here. He will be remmembered and not forgotten. He might not be Alexander, but still having yourself immortalized is the legacy every man wish for.
😊perhaps the like of Ibn Battuta of 21st century ... Or dante
Just a clarification: Japanese is a tricky language. This "i hate oda" interview with Kubo was done in a Radio show, with light joking mood, like "oh man, i didn't believed it!" not like "I really don't like this Oda guy." It is the SAME Oda said in a recent interview with Detective Conan's author, he said he "hated other authors, that they didn't deserve to beat Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X in the ranking", also saying he viewed them as "enemies"
But again, just text translation doesn't get the nuances, tones, etc
Kubo isn't the most outgoing mangaka, he's very private with his personal life and friendships. They are not friends, but not also hate each other, Oda even invited him to eat bbq. Please don't stir drama between them...
More like friendly rivals.
All the failed pronunciations in the video didn’t exactly give that much hope for completely accurate representations of the quoted info in the first place tbh.
Oda is in the top 3 best selling fictional authors still alive! That's crazy!
many people think Oda is just locked in 1 room just drawing One piece while really he travels around alot and does interviews regularly.
My friend who got me into One Piece passed away. I think about him a lot, how he would love what is going on now.
Please be healthy oda. One of my purpose in life is read the one of one piece. Nice video and so detail
I can't imagine all the research that went into this. Well done man!
I thank oda for just dedicación he have and when he finished the story he can be rhe freest he can be with his family
what abt the editors ol
i mean he works with a team who do backgrounds and stuff too and editors who help him with the series
This was seriously such a well put together video with so many tidbits that I'm hearing for the first time here. WELL DONE!
my boi Roger 🙌
Thank you man that means a lot! I’v been watching you awhile, so it’s very motivational you enjoyed my video! I hope to keep improving. Can’t wait for your next art competition I love those!
Oda is the pinnacle of "fulfill your dreams"
The dude is the GOAT. He never hampered his series with vast filler arcs and to do that with over a thousand episodes is a testament to his absurd hard work. While so many series tend to wither into there final arcs OP has only gotten better. A true legend.
This was the best documentary that I never knew I needed! Thank you for this! Amazing work!
Wow the quality of this video!!
When one piece is over I hope there’s a trend on social media of people bowing and thanking Oda. To live in this age and read it every week. What a blessing.
I love that he’s taking many breaks now, i’m hoping he’s resting well now🤞
You are going to get the one piece brotha thank you thank you and thank you so much for taking the time to give us this information it is greatly appreciated and does not go unnoticed
I find it hilarious that Oda’s wife is a One Piece fan. I wonder if Oda asks her for advice on the story or if she wants to stay spoiler free? Haha.
Oda really said "if he does, he dies" and "i am your life insurance"
I'm proud to say that I read my first One Piece chapter in early 1999... 24 years later and it's still 🥶
Your literally a legend,I'm following one piece from 2020😅
Now that we're on a month hiatus this video is pretty relevant more than you prolly expected it would be
I I think there's a lot we can all learn from oda's career and work schedule it makes me wonder if someday someone will be able to make an improved version of that routine to get even better results by using the knowledge form oda's schedule to make one more suited for themselves which I think would be pretty cool to see.
If humans could someday find someway to survive without food and sleep maybe.
Trust me mate, there's nothing to learn from the schedule of someone who sleeps 3h/night and has to be forced to eat.
Holy Molly, the panel with the comparisons... Ace being S.Ray Vaughan and Hawkins being Joey Jordison, this is AMAZING
Timestamp plz?
Yamato is Honjyou kamatari from Kenshin
My guy I really enjoyed your video. Can't wait to check out more hopefully more One Piece videos.
Masterclass in your story telling and super detailed! Oda's story is inspiring
I believe this video truly made this channel go boom
Oda I appreciate everything you do thanks for this show
Really shocked me how you ended the video with the controversy thing with Oda.
Even though I may never get to meet this man. I’m glad I stumbled upon the story he’s created. The impact his work has had on the world is immeasurable.
Great video, taught me many things about the creator of the series I love so dearly!
Thank you for making this video. This world owes oda so much
He’s such a hard worker, I had no idea how much time he sacrifices for the series
In that case i hope we dont lose Hirohiko Araki soon 😢 he usually does monthly releases though so hopefully it helps with his health.
He definitely needs to spend more time with his family. I wouldn’t complain if he took like 3 months off.
If i were him, iw ouldd continue & end it then we can take a break
He needs at least 1 year off.
Make anime bi-weekly or seasonal
@@ssebasgooprobably to completely unwind
@@aleccampbell7707seasonal just doesn’t work with one piece, bi-weekly is the way to go I think
This documentary was fire 🔥🔥🔥
Nice to see, you hit the 5k!
Oda deserves all the credits.
Great video!
Thank you! I’m very grateful to all of you and Oda!
I have been about one piece from early 2000s. I was watching it before I even knew what anime was really. This and dbz are what ultimately shaped my love for anime. Love Oda I just wish he could have more to his life and hope once he’s done with his amazing story that he has plenty of time with his family.
I'll never be mad about a two week break again. Take your time man. Take your time.
wow, that conflict though.
It wont be too bad if the kid also watches his father work.
It wont be too bad if the kid also watches his father work.
Thats why you read the manga, the anime only has about 8 minutes of progress and the rest are stalling.
Your videos are so good man. I didn't look at your channel until after watching this video. I thought you would have had 100k+ subscribers already. I've been binging some of your other videos since. Good stuff man. Keep it up
Thank you for making this! I learned so much! 🎉
Just when i started looking up Oda-Interviews and other sources of information to get to know the creator of my lifelong-favourite anime series, you are coming up with this excellent video. What a timing! Thanks my dude. Have my like and sub
Dude, this video is so good! All of the time, research, and thought put into it really shows.
if only japan's work ethics were different. ichiro oda can still make one piece go on AND be with his family at the same time.
I hope your channel keeps growing, this was well put together and (im not gonna fact check you) seems well researched, I learned things, and it was a pleasant viewing experience
Ayo, this detailed and well made video from a channel with so little recognition?
Your narration is clear and calm, and your voice is relaxing. I believe you'll get big for sure!
Thanks for this indepth story about one of the best mangaka ever!
The statement of Oda visiting his home one once a week isn't technically correct, since his studio is in the basement of his house as shown in the legendary house and studio tour back in 2019.
Oda-sensei is an unreachable height for any creator. Thank you for your detailed video.
3 Legendary Mangaka that has no other rivals would be
Kentaro Miura ( Berserk creator ) RIP
Ichiro Oda ( One Piece Creator )
Yoshihiro Togashi ( HxH Creator )
Akira Toriyama ( Dragon Ball Creator )
These mangaka shaped why we love anime so much. And i consider all these 4 a Legendary Mangakas.
Berserk*
@@beirdo102 My bad i fixed that to Berserk your right.
This was such a great and well put together video, pleased to see more of your stuff
When you call yourself a One Piece fan but then you watch this video and had no idea the og version of Romance Dawn was actually animated. 🧐😱🤪🤦 Awesome video by the way.
Amazing video, very underrated creator keep it up
Thank you, Oda and the whole team behind the anime.
4:06 "and Practicing them is why He got so good at drawing leg- *CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER* -endary buff dudes."
Oda is a once in a lifetime genius and visionary
Y’all think Kuma becoming a mindless machine had something to do with Oda’s mindset?
Also, isn’t it odd how the main theme of one piece is “freedom”, but Oda is the least free man in Japan?
I thought about Kuma as well! And also Bonney's situation if you are caught up (I'm only caught up with the anime tho lol)
In a way, you indeed could say he is the least free man in Japan. Although, he's willingly chasing his dream and it's becoming a reality despite the huge sacrifices (kinda like some certain characters we know lol) I guess whether he finds it a priviledge or not is something we can't be entirely sure of
But it's actually quite hard to define freedom. Some people argue in philosophy that the mere fact of chasing your dreams and sticking to them inherently takes away your freedom. But I digress lol, thx for making your comment!
I can see the wizard of oz influence in one piece. Luffy picking up more people to join his crew as he goes that all have their own dream.
Oda is the only creative in history to not only have kept his project alive for close to 30 years but also in the top 5 throughout those years. Now let that sink in.
Pro tip: embrace loneliness and isolation first, _then_ become famous. That way, you won't lose anything you didn't already have.
When certain character appeared I couldn't help thinking that was Oda writing himself into the manga.
VP
Nothing wrong with taking a break… 3 years the Anime will catch up.
The work ethic is insane . I learned a lot from this video , thank you! I just wish there was a better work life balance .. and that animators got properly paid over there in Japan . I mean all the crazy work hours show , Japanese animations are leagues above ours
Dr Vegapunk is legit what Oda wants to be.
I wish I had at least 10% of his work ethic. It's amazing how he has managed to be so invested into his work for such a long time.
At 22 he become full fledge professional Mangaka to continue One Piece. GOAT.
Oda deserves a documentary after one piece is all said and done.
Looks like you crushed your 199 likes goal :) great video man ty
Can never complain about break weeks or break months. Hope he coasts and chills after One Piece wraps.
I wish Oda for good health and keep continuing the greatest work.
it would be awesome if someone make movies about life of Oda .
Such a great video. Thank you Future king of RUclips Pirates
I hope Oda finishes One Piece well and has some quality time with his family after. He deserves it more than anyone.
This was a great video! Informative, thoughtful and entertaining. Thanks!
I need to truly sit down an watch this show. Only reason why I haven’t due to sooooo many episodes I know it’ll take me a very long time to catch up.
I recommend watching the anime until timeskip, after that, just read the manga and watch the best moments in the anime (anime handles the best/emotional moments better imo coz of the music, voice acting and animation).
Imo post time-skip's pacing has been the worst on the anime.
What blows my mind is Luffy and the original idea of Death Note came from the same person. No wonder he makes such great villians AND heroes!
Bro, I can't believe how informative this video is, I only knew about some of stuff said in this video, keep it up, with whatever style of content creation in one piece u striving to master, make sure to keep up this kind of energy bro❤😮
Oda and I we are both born in 1975 but he is older than me by months because he was born in January. I was born in March. I feel envy of him but I am also a big fan of his work One Piece. Long Live Oda Eiichiro. Thank you for One Piece so much. God bless you always.
Awesome video. Thank you!
Oda still drawing in hospital and Kishimoto help him reminds of bakuman, even the scene almost identical.
