    This (and other more recent DVD players in general) seem they're designed for kid's room TVs. Parents often don't want their kids to be able to stream content and run into adult content, and constraining what one can watch to whichever physical media they provide is a great way to control that. The buttons being hard to press seems like deliberate design so kids can't easily press the buttons.
    These also seem very popular in hotels in rural or remote areas. Due to the low bandwidth in those areas, guests can't stream movies easily, so providing DVD players in the rooms along with (usually) complimentary movies in the lobby to check out is a great perk.
    You can thank demand from these two types of customers for keeping DVD players in production today.

      That's very cool! this player does have extensive parental control features. I'd be delighted to see a player in a hotel haha. I've stayed in rural areas where they offer something like a fire stick and it is quite literally unplayable

    I still collect DVDs and Blu-ray and 4K. I am big supporter of collecting physical media. I’ve been collecting movies for years. I really enjoy it. I actually own it instead of a streaming service taking it away when they decide to. I also do occasionally pick up VHS . I guess you could say that I stayed analog when the rest of the world went digital lol.

    I can’t believe the quality difference between the two players at the end, I mean it’s like day and night difference. My girlfriend bought that Sony little player and it’s been working great for us, we tend to watch a lot of physical media content, she has the Sony in her house, I’ve got a Pioneer DV-310, you should try that one too, pretty good player and it feels like well built quality.

  • @rbruce25

    Your leaning, good choice on The Sony DVP-SR510H, this has ports that most modern DVD's do not come with, like composite and coaxial (digital-output). Most players now a days only come with HDMI only. And you would be correct that most MFG of TV's are dropping every port but HDMI so us people with older electronics have to use converters or find an old stock TV or even worse purchase a whole new system. Most CBVS converters will make the image blocky and blurry, but you can get ones that do not but that comes at a price (like $79 and up). The DVP-SR510 has the same converter (CBVS) but it is a higher quality upscaler than those cheap $10 ones.

    So, I've got this DVD player in my cart but wanted to see a review on it before I purchase... I know it's not expensive but still, I didn't want a piece of ***t! Your review helped me to hit the "purchase" button, thanks! Now, your video was entertaining and I'm going to subscribe and see what else you have! I need to get a component cable for my Sony dvd player. Currently I can only use it with my Sony CRT via RGB scart. Which does look fantastic. My Britney dvds look incredible. But it'd be nice to have the option to use the player with my flat screen.
    Always a good idea to make sure the cable is fully pushed in 😂

    I got this at Walmart too back in 2022 before getting Lightyear and Jurassic World Dominion on Blu-Ray+DVD. Also I was the only person who showed everything but no other RUclipsr has ever done that and my guess that they were scared to get a copyright strike crap for showing on a TV. I did but I kept the volume on 0 so no one would hear the sounds. An you your the next person who showed it along with a comparison with the old DVD player. I believe that Sony DVD players are a lot faster then the old DVD players.

    I work at a company in the UK with shops around the country where we would have a TV in each shop playing a demo reel about our products on loop from a DVD. The model we would use was the SR170, which featured SCART which is more common in Europe. This model didn't have HDMI, which was fine as we only had little TVs connected to them. Not a bad player and was very cheap, about £30. Took one apart that stopped working, the belt had broken so the tray wouldn't open. It literally has such a tiny circuit board with one main chip responsible for its operation. There was a ribbon cable through to a board on the front for the buttons, LED, and IR receiver. The plastic buttons on top of the player when pressed kinda push down at a right angle inside against tactile switches on the circuit board which explains the cheap feel of the buttons.
    We're now replacing these for Raspberry Pi's running digital signage software.

    Thank you for the video.
    How do you get the set-up/menu to work. Sometimes it lets me do it, some other times it tells me to insert the disk. Then, after inserting the disk, it tells me that the disk prevents me to operate the set-up. catch 22?
    Also who do you turn captions on . I have disks that they say they have "closed captioning" - and they do when I put them into my computer. But when i try to player them on this DVD player they don't seem to have them anymore.
    Any help would be great.
    Thank you.

    Definitely a much better player for you for sure! I’m just curious though, since the whole point is to make it easier to play optical discs, why didn’t you get yourself a Blu-ray player instead? That way you can play any kind? I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of the show ALF from the 80s or if you’re a fan or not but I just picked up the brand new deluxe edition that has everything the uncut episodes and both of the cartoons and bo nes features on DVD that shot factory just put out and I’ve been really enjoying it!

    Looks like the aspect ratio might be off on the Magnavox. Might want to check that in the settings. Also, the Magnavox might have some video settings that would improve the washed out look the picture has. Something like Vivid, Cinema, Soft, etc.
    I 'm sure the Sony will still have a better picture though, with the 1080 upscale.
    I bought that same machine (The Sony) on Amazon a month or so ago for about $35. Didn't really need it as I have several DVD & UHD/Blu-Ray players, but I kind of collect them and you can never have too many lol

    The feed back is from GROUND-LOOP. Your getting ground-loop because you have different devices plugged in to different surge protectors plugged into separate outlets. If your going to use surge protectors you need to plug all audio processing signal electronics in to 1 outlet and only 1 surge protector so that they are all using the same ground. Not all wall outlets in apartments as well as home have all outlets on the same ground. 2 plugs on one wall may not have the same ground even though they are 6 to 10 feet apart. Some may have a grounding prong but it maybe only be grounded to the metal receptacle box and not true earth ground.

    • @YasmineCollects
      @YasmineCollects  10 месяцев назад

      Thanks so much! I don't have this grounding issue with my VCR which is on the same protector, so that makes a ton of sense. Always gotta be careful

    • @rbruce25
      @rbruce25 10 месяцев назад

      @@YasmineCollects VCR are not signal processing devices, and VCR have better insulation due to the higher frequency they processing. Anything that amplifies a signal is seceptable to ground loop, like turn tables, amplifiers and powered speakers. Just try moving the plugs one by one you will find the component that is causing the issue

Before my child was born we decided to buy an open box special Nikon camera to film our new child well the day arrived open the box everything was in the box except the camera I called Best buy immediately and talk to them and it was a pain in the butt but at least the local store went ahead and said you know what. They believe this and gave us the money credit towards another camera which we bought in the store. So I believe somebody at Best buy when they shipped it out and took the camera out of the box and shipped it FedEx or UPS I don't remember it was quite a while ago.

    Taking a quick glance, it doesn't look all that different from my Sony DVP-SR200P. In fact, the only major differences are that mine doesn't have HDMI, has a regular disc tray-loader, and a physical LCD time elapsed display. The buttons are a little better, but still garbage compared to the DVP-S500D I used to have.
    Alright, quick side tangent. I originally purchased my DVP-SR200P from Goodwill for the sole purpose of having a DVD player around in case I needed it. I practically never used it, and it ended up in storage until the CD player in my Sony MHC-EC55 failed, which the DVP-SE200P then entered service as a CD player. I quickly realized that it was horrible to use as a CD player, mainly due to the lack of physical track skip buttons, but also because the firmware or whatever it has seems to glitch up every now and then, leading to CDs randomly stopping and restarting. It's painfully obvious that the CD playing functions are purely an afterthought. I regret not snagging up the Sony CDP-CE500 I came across at Goodwill a year ago....
