Criminaly underrated channel ❤️. I think ever since Hollow Knight released my perspective on the value of games really shifted. There are some experiences i’d be willing to pay a “triple A price” for, such as resident evil 7 or the first last of us game on release, but nothing can ever replace the feeling that you’ve got every pennies worth from a game, like hollow knight, project zomboid or celeste. The higher the cost of entry, the higher the expectation going into it and the more likely you won’t get that feeling.

You’re too kind :) but agreed, there’s been a lot of games made by smaller studios that really do change your perspective about how much you should be paying for a game and when you’re able to get these genre defining games for a fraction of an annually released AAA game, I feel like the choice is clear. Right now I think it’s just about making these titles more visible to the mainstream public so they can hopefully see some of these great games they’ve been missing. I think we’re getting there slowly but surely

My friends and I have always held to the $1 per hour rule. If i spent $1 and got a genuinely fun 1 hour out if it, it was worth the money. If i spend $100 dollars but dont get 100 hours of genuine enjoyment, it was not worht the money.
And to be clear, thats time I spend Enjoying the game, just cause your game had 1000 hours of content doesnt mean it will be worth even a songle dollar if its not fun.

yeah it’s been a pretty reliable rule of thumb for me as well. like you said though, just because it theoretically has that much content doesn’t mean i think that’s time worth spending and in many instances i’ve walked away from games that hardly hit the $2/hr for enjoyment but i have still greatly enjoyed them and look at the game very fondly. at the end of the day it’s definitely a quality over quantity in pretty much all cases for games i play

I personally believe it should come to the amount of content for example a game like elden ring being $60 is a reasonable price(could honestly be $70) and its a one time purchase no micro transactions but cod being 60~$70 and having micro transactions is crazy with no way to earn them unlike helldivers being 40 dollars and have micro transactions but the micro transactions dont give any pvp competitive advantages(unlike cod) but you can actually earn the premium currency in hell divers and the bp is free with the premium currency included

yeah i agree with this sentiment, it is hard to enforce though and unfortunately with no actual laws or anything similar in place, companies like activision will be more than happy to charge you $70 while also pushing microtransactions

The price tag... Honestly I'm more in favour of some sort of standard price for a console/physical release vs. a pc releasse. That being said with current consoles being mostly digital (I've only bought 3 cartridges for my Switch) a fair price should be within a "reasonable" range.

Imo as long as a game is good, I'll probably save up to buy it. Right now, most of the games I want to play are indie/double AA games because they're what I'm finding fun right now. I've had way more fun playing Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, Ultrakill, and HellDivers 2 than playing games like Halo Infinite, Call of Duty, Assassins' creed, etc.
I won't lie, the more expensive games get though, the harder it becomes to justify the purchase, though. I was interested in playing the new persona remaster since a lot of my friends are super into it, but its really hard to justify buying a remaster for a game that's 70 dollars. I could get like, 4 indie games with that money.
Perhaps because triple A games are starting to falter for being too big to succeed, we might see more studios try to restructure how they work when making triple A games. In order to keep up with the rise of smaller studios/indie games, they may be forced into a more quality over quantity state. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't, though so the CEO's/executives can just try to maximize profit for a few years and abandon the company.

yeah it’s a tough battle but i think the market, much like yourself, is shifting away from AAA games because of these very reasons. it’s tough to say how much this will influence them as there’s always casual consumers who haven’t even heard about most of these smaller indie/AA games but we can hope
