    this is awesome. I was stuck not sure of how to render this in maya since its only setup for viewport dx11 with wrinklemaps and shader. I did develop a iphone to maya facial mocap animation baking to be used as first pass. Now that I can bring the maya made gui animation into unreal to render this is perfect! all the skin shading and normal wrinklemaps will work. Just need to be able to bring body animation now.

    Hey Lucas Ridley, this is Kaná! I am a student of some of your courses at Udemy> Your work and your experiences with Metahuman and Unreal Engine are very special. I believe that Epic Game will soon choose to give Autodesk, Psychology among other a headache, with a auta capacity to development of Unreal, Twinmotion and other acquisitions. At Unreal you can already do a lot of 3D work, films, VFX. In this way of improvements above expectations, I only see Blender innovating wildly. Congratulations and success to your channel, I admire you a lot, even if you don't have personal proximity. It cost.

    im getting an error code 13291 and wont let me export. i have maya 2020 but just a trial version. would this be the reason why?

    Thanks for letting me know that it doesn't work in Maya 2022 bc Im able to export to 2022 but the textures just don't wanna work at all, I'll give it a go in 2020 to see if it works properly

    The only problem with this process is that when I put it in Custom mode and load up a mocap on the body inside the sequencer, the face stays at 000 in world space, does not follow the body, do you know why is that happening?

      I’ve figured out the problem, need to add a track into the sequencer (selecting the body and pressing on the + ) “animation mode” and select “animation asset”. that works

    please how do I import the mesh with the clothes in maya, it only opens the body geometry.

    Thank you for the video, really helpful! What about the same thing but for the body? I've seen the documentation for metahuman exporting into maya and the body control rig is not exported, is there a workaround to apply mocap animation in maya and send it to unreal for the metahuman body? Thanks so much!

    Question, and maybe you already have a course on it: How would you export the Metahuman (full body) into Maya, put mocap on it through HIK (including head movement), and then import back to Unreal to add the facial expressions? If you already have that course available, let me know.

    Thanks for the video again. Is there a way to "add" a custom blendshape to the metahuman mesh in unreal? I want to add a couple of new blendshapes in maya and export it along with the control GUI baked fbx using your methods. is it doable to add a new blendshape to the metahuman mesh in unreal, then use the GUI fbx export method? Sound confusing right? :)

    When i export from bridge to Maya ,i have an error that --- Error
    Could not export asset with id l6xdhoCX to Maya because it does not have source assets My maya is 2020.4

      I've not seen that error before but it sounds like you skipped the part of the tutorial about the export settings and choosing the source assets in Bridge possibly.

      @@AnimatorsJourney very thank you and i really forget to choose source from UAsset to Source Asset in the download setting , if only download UAsset ,should delete the asset which only download UAsset and download the model again. And i also find the model i import into maya donot have cloth.

      @@木山春秋 你在Bridge里面下载模型的时候有个预览列表,列表找到那个素材点击右上角有导出,左上角有时候会出现一个X点击可以删除,或者还有种办法直接右键找到下载素材的目录直接去删掉之前的文件就可以了

    You didn't talk at all about Y up versus Z up. I've seen MetaHumans come into Maya Z up, which is clearly an issue. I really do wish they would document this stuff better, it's like they expect everyone to just "know" how to use their tools.

    I still don't understand why epic are pushing so hard to make people animate in UE, it's not animator friendly, it doesn't have the tools for it, even selecting controllers in the viewport is so painful. shame they ditched ARTv2 which was far more practical.
    Of course new comers and people who can't afford to have good character modelers and animators will rejoice because they think it's a good thing, instead of learning how to model or animate they'll just go for a ready to use character modeled rigged even animated in the near future and that's how you kill professions and art.
    Nonetheless very much appreciate your efforts into making those videos.

    is there anything that needs to be done in maya before exporting in bridge? it says"export to maya successful" but it's not showing up in maya :/ (i have the plugin installed in maya, and used the proper download/export settings in bridge)

      What version of Maya are you using? I've only tested in 2020.4

      Currently this workflow is only available for the face rig, it's mentioned in the first few seconds of the video as lower third text.

    Great video, man! You will help a lot of people to avoid some headache :) I would like to know if the model that you export to may is limited to animation only. I saw that the model has no clothes and no hair in the may viewport. So, I cant export let's say as an fbx from maya, right? And the textures for the clothes and the hair is not available in maya. Is that correct?

      Cheers. Grooms are specific to UE, same with clothes. Maya is meant to author the animation, as I understand it. I doubt they'll make it super easy to take the entire character to Maya, probably just not a priority, since the license for metahumans must end up in UE anyways.

    Thank you for this great video, even as a newb its nice to gaze at these more difficult aspects just to understand what I'm in for. Question...by including Maya in the workflow you are better able to control certain aspects of the animation. What I'm curious about is the ability to alter (sculpt, distort) the metahumans. I was thinking you might be able to do this (sculpting) in Maya as well, but after watching your video I'm thinking that might not be the case. This would mean there really is no way to convert a metahuman into say a precision model of Abe Lincoln, correct? Thoughts?

      Yes I'm wondering this also. From Epic they said that stretching the mesh beyond boundaries of their preset faces would cause the rig to break, but what if I want to sculpt just a small details to make likeness portrait and how to exprot it back to UE4?

    hey, thanks a lot for the video it got me way closer than before! Its still not working tho, only the rig controls are animated in my unreal scene, not the character tho, would u know a reason why that could be? thanks a lot in advance :)!

      Cheers, are you working on a blank scene. It sounds like you've got something else pointing your BP towards like a live link connection or something that would prevent the control rig from controlling the face. Try in a blank scene and don't change any other attributes.

      No Blender support for metahuman, and they mentioned on their live stream there's no plan to support Blender. It's only available in Maya (and Unreal).

    Which Maya version is required for running the ".ma file" from the downloaded source files ? As I can see , the dude is running 2020 version of Maya.
    Is there is any way of converting the UE5 Metahuman assets into .FBX for another redactors like Blender ? I think it's will be the huge pain in the a** , buying the Maya license for checking the mesh, it's would be nice marketing move ( like if u buying the Maya license, then u will earn the full rig of the Metahuman with 8K textures ) and if u are poor user - u can download or at least export the mesh to FBX with 2K or 4K res at least :\. .ma source file is pain in the a**

    Have you tried getting the body to work yet at all mate? :-) I can get the body keyframes into the sequencer using your method - but the issue is that they are just completely crazy. Because the positions are so different. For example, inside maya the DEFAULT position of the hip_drv is "TRANSLATE 0, TRANSLATE Y -2.24, TRANSLATE Z 93.354". So even if I rename that, as hip_ctrl, in maya - and then import it using the right-click "Import Control Rig FBX" method, those values once assigned in the Sequencer to the "hip_ctrl" are just wildly wrong. :-) They make the hips deform vertically etc etc.

      I haven't had time yet to give it a try, but I know they're planning support for it. With it still being in beta there will most likely still be issues, this could be one of them. If I can get it to work I'll make a video about it. Cheers

      That’s what this tutorial demonstrates, take a metahuman from Maya to UE. Do you mean, how do you bring the metahuman into Maya without Bridge? You can’t. Bridge is free.

      @@tamatikawha Hi Tama, I'm not sure I can explain it any better in text response in the comments than I did in this video already. It sounds like you're looking for a different tutorial: "how to bring custom modeled clothes into Unreal." This tutorial is about bringing a metahuman into unreal from Maya. They already have their own clothes in Unreal that come with the metahuman.

    I hope you read it and tell me how to export part of the body MetaHumans to UE4, from Autodesk Maya.
    Everyone can load MetaHumans into Autodesk Maya or into UE4. Via Quixel Bridge. That's all clear.
    But on the contrary, uploading MetaHumans FROM Autodesk Maya to UE4 is a mystery.
    Please help me

      @@ayoadeabobarin522 We we discussing this on Twitter? I think I responded there with you're using Maya 2019? or 2022? I am testing here with 2020.4 so I would stick with that. Opening the .ma that gets downloaded will not work, you have to use the bridge export to maya to get the correct maya file working.

    Thanks so much for this VID. Yeah, this back-forth and these gotcha moments with this "MetalHuman" UE4 stuff are just annoying. Honestly, I would rather just stay in "Maya" with this MetalHuman Rig stuff to be honest with you. And frankly, I really don't even like "Unreal Engine", I'm a straight-Up "Maya" guy, but I digress on that? But anyway, thanks so much for this Great vid on this process.

    Hey, I dont want to bother you, but how could I go about importing the character back into Unreal after I added a couple custom blend shapes (Viseme expressions for use with Oculus Lip Sync)? Its a little confusing. Great video though helped me so much to import correctly into Maya

    Guys, first of All, if you trying do that in maya 2021 or higher, this work flow will not work. Must be maya 2020 or 2019.
