Sarah was born in Germany and despite the amazing and rich culture of the country, because of it's history, and WWII, and the holocaust, there can be a lot of judgments and perceptions about Germans. But of course Sarah had no idea about any of that when she and her family moved to the United States when she was just two years old.
Her mother was super excited about the move and had studied all about America and its history and culture and she wanted to visit every sate and explore. And they finally settled in Atlanta, Georgia, and really liked it. A couple of years after moving, her mother gave birth to a baby boy, her little brother! They were so happy, a complete family and a home and place they wanted to stay in forever.
But, when Sarah was in fourth grade, at school, racism reared its head - but not necessarily in the way you might think. And, it was very surprising to Sarah, after all, she went to a Christian school where they were all taught that everyone is created equal. It was a bit shocking to her that this kind of evil racism could live and thrive in a religious school, in the classroom.
Sarah wasn't bullied because of the color of her skin, or her religion or beliefs, but instead, as the kids at school began to study modern American history, and WWII, they started to accuse Sarah of being evil, and a racist, just because she was born in Germany. They were actually being racists by calling her a racist. She was accused of being a racist bet she was not because she didn't even know about what happened in German during World War II.
It's true that Germany does not have the best past when it came to acceptance and equality, but that was over 75 years ago, and Sarah learned about it at the same time that her classmates did. Nonetheless, since they knew she was from Germany they made crazy assumptions about her beliefs and that she was evil and racist.
One day she came home from school with all these questions about Germany, and its history, and World War II. She only knew the modern country that was inclusive and accepting and did amazing things for all kinds of people all over the world - and this past Germany, this "not so nice" Germany, was something she didn't understand, and definitely didn't understand why her friends and classmates were holding it against her. But that's what they did. That's what they seemed to see when the looked at her - some German soldier from 75 years ago. And that really hurt her. She was being accused of being a racist but she not.
One day her father asked her what was going on at school that had her asking all these questions about the darkest hours of Germany's history and why she seemed so unhappy. She told her dad what was happening, how everyone was teasing her for being racist and evil just because she was born in Germany. Her dad was shocked.
So, Sarah and her Mom and Dad went into the school to talk to the principal about it and she too was shocked, and upset. She set up a whole school assembly about racism and equality and taught that nobody was in a position to judge anybody else, and that we all had to actually get to know people before we could know anything about who they really were.
This message got through to a lot of the kids and since then Sarah has had a much easier time, making friends of all colors and religions and beliefs, and, even though she still does sometimes get teased and bullied for being German, it doesn't bother he so much. She knows who she is and she knows that she is not a racist. "I am a good American of German decent and I while I was accused of being a racist, I am not one and I see everyone equally as people, none more human that the other."

The same thing actually happened to me, I’m Jewish and when I told people that I was they immediately assumed I hate anyone from Germany, and anyone associated with it. It’s shocking how many people are accused of Racism now, but it’s nice to see her case worked out well. It shows we are giving in an effort to better improve ourselves in society

Im jewish as well and im good friends with one girl who is foreign exchange student from Germany! People assume she is a nazi and that I hate her but they could not be more wrong. I think some people need to step back and chill most of the time
I find it so hilarious how the kids made fun of her for being a German due to the country's not-so-good past, but somehow ignored the dark past of the US. As if the US is an innocent country. Pathetic.

I've had a German foreign exchange student live with me and my family and I know for a fact that they are some of the nicest people you can meet so don't judge somebody before you even meet or talk to them.

I had this conversation with my dad the other day about world world two, since my history class is learning about it. He told me about how his grandfather (my grandfather's dad) who fought in the war, was traumatized by what he saw at the camps with the other soldiers, it left him with PTSD and a story for my dad to tell us. I then brought up how unfair that to this day Germans/Germany still faces backlashes because of the war and he agreed.
To me, it just seems people who mistreat nice Germans just want a reason to either be stuck in the past, be cruel, or just believe that nothing has change

My father have a chinese ancestry and my mother is javanese. I have slanted eyes, perfectly straight black hair, and a small nose but my skin color is brown just like my mother's. When i wear my glasses people don't realize my slanted eyes, but when i took it off, people ask me "are you chinese?" and then started asking questions abt chinese culture. The next thing that happened is i was getting mocked bcs i have a chinese ancestry. I'm so mad. I'm sick of that kind of treatment when people know I have a chinese blood.

Once upon a time my class was putting on a school play on the jungle book movie, remember how the panther has black fur? Yeah the person playing the panther was making her costume orange so I asked innocently "why isnt it black?" And she yells to me "THATS RACIST". That's when I asked her "what's racist mean?" And she refused to tell me, I asked my parents and they were shocked and didn't tell me either, luckily the internet explained enough and I still don't understand why she called me racist. Might I mention I was probably eight or nine at the time.

Yeah, I had this one friend who always made fun of the fact that I'm mostly German. One day, I was taking to her, and the conversation subject got stale, so I said, "Hey, wanna know something cool in Germany?" And she responded, "Nazi parties?" And started laughing. I told her that that wasn't funny, and she said that the only reason I didn't think it was funny was because I was German, so I "have no sense of humor".
I was going to tell her marzipan was the cool thing, btw. -_-

But if you call a black person ‘coloured’ that’s extremely racist because back in the days where slavery was a thing black people were referred to as ‘coloured’ which puts the fact that they have different skin before the fact that they are a person and equal. So please refer to black people as people of colour because that acknowledges that they are an equal person before that they are black. As someone who is Jewish even I know that modern Germans are not racist or anti Semitic in fact two of my close friends are German. I have been accused of being racist cuz I described my bully as black since I didn't know their name back then ,also we wear uniforms so I had no other way to explain, from that day when I told one of the popular girls, keep in mind my English wasn't that good I just came from another country but I went "I think that black girl is bullying me I don't know what to do" and then she looked at me with a shocked face and went running to tell her, now 2 years later I'm still being accused of being racist and people started making other rumors like I said the n-word, f word, that I'm fatphobic and I was just f*cking new in that school already first days were hell I got verbally bullied everyday and I still do, it got till the point that I feel suicidal right now, I'm literally dealing everyday with verbal bullying for something I can't control no more, even 3 whole grades know about it and I'm known as the racist girl, just this year one of the popular girls said the n-word and p-word and yes she didn't get just slightly slapped by a girl but after a week everyone forgot about it and then there's me dealing with all this shit t'ill this day just cuz I described someone's skin color, I think my reputation is ruined forever.
