When I was a kid Psalty came to our church, and when he asked all the kids to prance around the sanctuary with him my brother and I started crying. I remember being scared. And now I know those feelings were completely justified .
As a kid, I loved the Psalty cassettes. The first time I saw a live Psalty... I was terrified. I thought someone had killed Psalty and was wearing his skin...
"...which they ended with a cliffhanger and never made the sequel for it, which I am still very upset about."
I can see why. That sort of disappointment would make anyone feel a little...
*puts on sunglasses *
...salty.
Dang it! You beat me too it. XD knew I should've checked the comments before posting that pun.
To much salt will cause high blood pressure.
Autumn Sunset DELETE THIS COMMENT
Autumn Sunset YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH
"Dancing, that depends on your denomination" favorite line 😂
I never watched Psalty as a kid and that's why I always whine a lot when I climb mountains.
That dog... that dog....
It's ok. I didn't need to sleep tonight.
Sleep is for the weak...
For those who have not seen the horrors I have seen.
*BLOOPER.*
I guess why they used a man in a dog suit was because that a real dog would've got spooked at Psalty.
Kevin...I am Psalty's real life daughter, and stumbled upon your video...your comments were funny. I mean you have to be able to laugh at yourself, right? I will say in my parents defense...the video was filmed in the 80's...LOL! I will also say I that this album is one of the more popular ones....kids all over the world dig it, even today in 2015! So it can't be that bad. In truth it is actually pretty entertaining...which I think you would agree. All the best to you Kevin on your webseries.
erin rettino This is the most exciting comment I've ever gotten, haha. Thanks so much! Thanks for being so nice about it and knowing that my video is all in good fun! I really did grow up watching this VHS and probably watched it more than any other video I owned for a long long time. My sister and I knew all the dances. It was very 80's, which is a very funny decade to look back at. Again, thanks for watching my vid and for the encouragement. I wish you and your family the very best!
+Say Goodnight Kevin seeing that you know the dances, I for one would love to see at least one...or maybe montage of them video taped with you showing off your moves... I mean it is only fair...we want a good laugh too! P.s. I Also appear in some of the clips you have. I was 5 at the time of filming. I am the little girl in the pink overalls with the Dorothy Hamill hair cut....and my sister is in the red and white checkered shirt...you made a joke about her whining, I think, which was hilarious.
Oh, you're the little girl who pokes her head out at 14:29 from behind the bushes. haha.
Haha, Perhaps I SHOULD do a video like that. But you would have to join in! lol.
It's funny, I became friends with one of the people from Bibleman after I reviewed one of those. He's joining me in a review of the episode where he played the bad guy. It should be coming out eventually. I'm, also friends with the team over at Adventures in Odyssey partially thanks to a podcast I used to do, that was a bit tongue in cheek. At this rate, I'm going to connect with ALL my childhood heroes!
Were you in any of the HighTops Videos?
Say Goodnight Kevin I am in! Where do you film? Email me...erinrettino@gmail.com
And no, I was not in Hitops...I was was 6 when they filmed that.
erin rettino Oh my gosh its the daughter of the Rettinos, how cool! Yep I remember Psalty's camping adventure when I used to go to church back when I was kid in the 90's (they made us watch it)haha! That dog blooper sorta creeped me out. And did your sister played Suzie in that show? To be honest I had a crush on Lisa back then I wonder what she is up too? I bet everyone who went camping with psalty must of been a blast and everyone who was a part were all pretty cool too.
I guess it's to their credit, I was able to sing along with half the songs in this video. ...which kind of freaked out my wife.
"Throw the ball, praise the Lord!" We burst out laughing at the same time, hahaha!
The HOWLlelujah oh my word I'm dying!
"As a single tear runs down the set designer's cheek."
"Pose for me, Blooper!"
"I'm sure their dads are proud."
Kevin... I cannot get enough of these.
Bahaha "like the 80's threw up all over their clothes..."
Reminds me of studio c: "ahhh, the 90's. It's like the 80's ate the 70's and threw up"
Haha my uncle was actually one of the kids in this movie ^.^ I used to be obsessed with this movie when I was little!
Fashionbykiley Oh really? What's your uncles name?!
Say Goodnight Kevin Timothy. He's the kid with the long sleeved green-and-white-striped shirt
Really?!!!
+Fashionbykiley Was he also one of the Churchmouse Choir in Kids Praise 4?
that's most incredible thing I've ever heard. I'm just glad your uncle wasn't Blooper. any stories from on set?
" Throw the ball praise the Lord" (too funny). Kevin please do more of these a month.
I like that young Tim Tebow part!
I grew up on this and it’s such a wonderful trip down memory lane lol
Dude, thank you. I before I discovered you, there's a lot of modern Christian media that I refused to touch with a ten foot pole. This I grew up with, and was feeling somewhat nostalgic for it. All your reviews are really enjoyable, and I pray that future Christian artists will make media that challenges us rather than panders to us.
I was watching this with my 4 brothers and sisters and we were all laughing throughout. Greatly enjoyed this!
Their favorite show as a kid was Veggietales.
Moral of the story: always bring a ufilly belt.
I had Psalty's Praise Party on CD and I played it every day as a kid. I can still recite every word if I hear it now!!
honestly , I can't believe someone else knows this movie. I still watch this movie almost every day. I remember being little, grabbing my psalty tape and going on the camping trip with psatly in my room lol. I used to pack up my backpack and walk all around my room pretending to be hiking with him, then makes forts out of blankets and pretend to be pitching my tent lol. psalty has helped me though some pretty tough days .. and honestly you're amazing for knowing this !!!
It’s been a zillion years and I can still mouth along to every word of this. I’ve seen this and Kids Praise 4 a ton of times. Matter of fact, I was just singing the ABC song a couple of days ago 😂😂
I will have to check out this video next. When I was a kid, my church put on a full scale production of Kids Praise 4. We even had a costumed Psalty on stage. I still know some of the song. Make Me a Servant. I think I had a solo. My mom still has the pictures.
Girl didn’t we all lol
Also when those psychedelic random moose and squirrel things come out and dance there is a kickin' SWEET bass solo!
No matter what you say, I still like Psalty and his songs.
Also, all the works by the Rettinos, involving Psalty, have been pivotal in my growth and shaping as a Christian and my view of praise. Thanks for putting this up!
It never ceases to amaze me how similar our senses of humor are. I swear you take the words right out of my mouth.
"Somebody call the waaambulance!" I thought nobody had seen that movie but my family haha
Now THIS is something I haven't thought about in years.... now One Step at a Time is going to be in my head the rest of the day
Oh my gosh I remember Blooper! That memory just came flooding back! I named my stuffed dog Blooper after this dog. I don't remember him being so disturbing though…
The little quips throughout the video are the best part of Movie Night. If you ever ended up making something similar to Rifftrax I would buy every episode.
"Not the dooOOOoooog!..."
Never stop Kevin.
This entire show is like one big lipped alligator moment
David Umstattd A big-lipped alligator movie.
I had this one on cassette and hearing the audio again...flashbacks
I'm horrified.
Amen
Did not expect you to be here!
+movieunleashers We all are.
that firefly is the inspiration for Five Nights at Freddys
This is garbage. Makes Veggies Tales look good. So creepy.
I remember two of these Kids Praise videos. One had to do with Psalty driving around in some kind of music machine and had a sub-plot with Charity Church Mouse. The other was this. I never realized how terrifying Blooper was until now.
Kids Praise four was my favorite. I wore that tape out. I can probably quote dialogue from it today.
I agree with Kevin on this one. I had Kids Praise 4 and 5 on cassette. Didn't see the videos.
I imagined the firefly as a cartoon type firefly and the dog as a real dog. And I imagined they were camping in a real forest.
It is good audio. Kids Praise 4 is even better. I'm glad I never saw either of those with cheap sets and bad costumes.
Psalty: Well, we searched for about an hour... they're in god's hands now.
That is literally what people say when they're writing off a loss. Can you imagine him using that excuse on the parents if the children never came back?
"I know it *looks* like it's my fault... but I left it up to god... so... "
This is why kids should not be left with a singing cereal box in the woods 💀
Oh my gosh, the nostalgia levels are through the roof! I loved this video as a kid. I think it was the musical numbers that won me over. I've always been a sucker for song and dance numbers. While I still have a soft spot for it, it doesn't really hold up. I forgot just how scary Blooper looked! And I'd completely forgotten that ridiculous firefly. Did you ever see the Psalty video with Charity Churchmouse and Risky Rat? More freaky imagery in that one.
Looks like Liberace in a book costume. I don't think the intended reaction to Psalty was "AAAH! BURN IT!! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!"
I had Psalty's Salvation Celebration. Sometimes it still pops into my head. This happens basically once a month. I really wish it didn't.
Again, I love this review. I can tell all the jokes come from a good place. You're awesome as always. keep up the good work.
Clint Daniel Thanks so much!
thanks a lot Kevin. These songs are going to be stuck in my head all night.
"When you're walking with the Lord, you're more than able!"
"Alright. Cut the PC crap, Farley."
@Maggie Mize
That actually made me laugh.
We had several of the Psalty albums on cassette that my dad taped off vinyl. I know i saw the video of this at least once, and also the one with Charity the Churchmouse getting tempted by showbiz, but i heard them dozens of times audio only. Probably the weirdest one is when Psalty & his wife Psaltina go to pick up their new baby booklet from the bookbinding factory.
That said, the music is actually very good. Keith Green (RIP) worked with Ernie & co. on some early Psalty songs.
I'm surprised you passed up the chance to make a Pampers joke when the one kid said "I'm a big kid now."
Same!
Watch the dog at the beginning of the song of salty sings top of the mountain. She is saying "I need a adult"
Fiery mcfirefly, "HAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHHAH hahahahahahhahah WHERE ME LUCKY CHARMS!"
I'm so glad I didn't have this nightmare when I was growing up. The only thing I remember watching in my catechism class was the 1980 gold medal hockey game.
"I wonder what's behind that curtain Scoob." "A shower?" "No, it's not the shower."
"do you guys wanna join me?" he says, no i really dont wanna join you on this terrifying journey, but sadly im on a SGK binge right now and have to join you on this journey
You’re a brave soul.
not gonna lie its been a fun journey and binge, its interesting to see reviews of these movies and shows that arent just atheists bashing on them for being christian
@@saygoodnightkevinPsalty and His Demon Dog and Charity Church mouse are pure nightmare fuel what on earth where They thinking when They made Their very creepy designs?
I also remember singing these songs ALL THE TIME when I was little and annoying my older sister.....LOL PSALTY IS BACK! ^_^
“That depends on your denomination”. Hahah pentecostal here🙋🏼♀️😂.
Naked! Though, David did a lot of things we probably don’t need to replicate in church.
Say Goodnight Kevin David definitely did a lot of things we shouldnt replicate. I do believe in dancing but the joke about denomination was still funny😂.
I would probably "lose track of" these kids in the woods.
On purpose.
Seriously, I don't know how Psalty managed to keep from tossing them all off the nearest cliff.
this was quite the experience.
I only ever listened to the tapes when I was a kid. Didn't ever see these videos. Wow
+Adam Downing you can watch more videos on my channel.
I went to see Psalty live for my birthday when I was a kid- we were all about Psalty at my house. In fact, when my older sister was a kid, Psalty led her to Christ. Then she wrote him a letter telling him about her salvation experience that came about through his videos, and he wrote her back. We still have the letter!
Also, do you remember Risky Rat? He used to scare me so much!
And you should totally review The Donut Man! I saw him live twice....
I loved the donut man
Kevin, this was great! The references were beyond perfect! The Muppet Treasure Island joke had me in stitches! Another A+ from me! :)
Gotta admit though...Psalty got awesome pipes man! :0
I hear "My dog Blooper!" I see the Rake and have a panic attack.
PSALTYY💛💛💛I MISS IT SO MUCH.... I GOT SO ANNOYED ABOUT THE 10 CLIFFHANGER AS WELL THEY NEVER DID ANOTHER ONE😣😣😣
This series is the best that kevin does by far
I love Psalty! Except I had never seen the show, but had always listened to the audio stories.
I honestly needed tissues for this one...this is hilarious 😂
LOL! Kevin! You're commentary is so much fun to listen to man. I've never actually seen this growing up. I don't think I'd actually be able to watch this without it.
Gives a new meaning to "mountaintop experience."
Oh man I totally forgot about this... I must have been like 5 or 6 when I saw this!! I remember being disappointed that Psalty's face wasn't like the cover too
you are criminally underrated! love your videos, even this one
2:53
"Your head's poking out of your...."
Me: "Book hole"
I’m glad that I brought my ufilliy belt😂
Your comedic timing is better than mine, honestly.
We have to do this for a musical at my school. When my music teacher showed the video to my class we all couldn’t stop laughing at it. 💀💀
Update: I’m Lisa. I’m going to jump off a cliff 😭
Kids Praise series was also conceptualised so that church kids ministries and even grade schools could reproduce the shows themselves. With director's script books and instrumentals-only audios. The videos served as guides to these productions, too. Hence the affordable design.
I first heard about this show from the webcomic Dumbing of Age, where one of the main characters was once an extra in the alternate-universe Psalty expy.
I don't know where I was going with this comment.
"OR just listen to adventures in odyssey...."
me:*HAND raises, i have a whole collection!
Your quips and everything are fantastic- it's actually witty and it gets me to chuckle, I'm legitimately impressed good job man
Oh my goodness, loved Psalty when I was little. Never realized it was just lipped synced like that. My work will never be the same.
Psalty would have scared me when I was little tbh I know about him because I discovered that camping VHS at Goodwill when I was 8 but I didn't buy it. I watched it on YT 4 years later (in 2012) and thought it was hilarious as ever!
its funny how as kids, we never find these things creepy. Teletubbies was my show when i was younger, looking at it now....it just creeps me out...
This makes me happy to know that I was raises on Christian music such as bands like Mortification and Tourniquet. This is just... awkward
thank you for existing, I feel like each video I watch, I get a little therapy, lol.
I LOVED this!! It was so great :) My mom had Psalty on replay in our house when I was little. Thanks for reviewing this!
:) I thoroughly enjoyed this. I remember movie days in kids' church...
This was hilarious! Keep it up Kevin!
I remember when I was first introduced to this when my cousins mentioned they were doing a play on it in school.
Makes me glad that they changed schools
9:21-9:37--"Then they sing a song about memorizing scripture, using your ABCs."
"A! 'All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.'"
What a way to kick off a cheery song about Bible verses--"Remember, kids, we're all horrible, wretched sinners!"
I get what the verse is saying, everyone makes mistakes and no one's perfect, but still, it seemed like a weird choice.
OMG these vids were my childhood! I didn't even know there were other ones! I don't know why I wasn't completely terrified of Psaltys costume though....
that dog...
17:20 on had me cracking up. My cheeks hurt!!!
Nice review Kevin!!
Oh my gosh this gives me life! :D Good memories of watching Psalty when I was younger. My first Bible was even Psalty-themed and signed by Psalty. :) Thanks so much for making this! These reviews are fantastic ^_^
1:28 Would you say you were a bit...psalty about them not making a sequel? ;)
I'm dead😂😂
I always thought psalty was reminded me of my dad
this episode is about climbing a mountain, which reminds me about one my my dad's sermons about climbing a mountain, which uses the scripture from Genesis where Abraham climbs the mountain to sacrifice Isaac, but God stops him and provides a ram as a burnt offering.
Anyway...Psalty sure has a lot of kids with him.
Sixteen or so kids to one (non-human, at that) adult? It’s surprising nothing worse than some poison ivy and only 2 kids getting lost happened! Though they don’t show the trip home…
Psalty scared the CRAP out of me as a kid! I remember seeing him live as a child and being absolutely terrified of him.
18:57 I'm not sure why I thought that was an excellent Spongebob impression 🤣
That strikes me as essentially a Christian version of Barney, but with lower production values and much creepier. I have memories of a similar Christian show involving a robot that I think was named Colby. Anyone else remember that show?
magictoast15 Oh yeah, I THINK I remember it
We need Psalty
Oh, oh my gosh. I had totally forgotten about this but I had Psalty 4 on VHS! Goodness, I cringed so hard, this is easily the worst movie you've reviewed yet. And it's definitely where my fear of clowns was rooted in. I also thought the whole face on the spine versus human face thing was weird. XD I always got this mixed up with Colby's Club House, could you do that next?
Loved watching this video of you, Kevin! Reminds me of when my friend and I watch cheesy movies together. :D
I loved Lamb Chops as a kid. We had one tape of it and I'm sure I watched it a bazillion times.
These were the kids that were rejected by the people at the Barney casting team, and it shows.
McGee and Me...holy cow that's a blast from the past.
I always say that Psalty scared the Hell out of me as a kid so mission accomplished
This is the funniest thing I have ever witnessed n my entire time of living on this earth.
This was sooo funny!!
"Pray for us, Suzie!" Yes, Suzie. Pray for them. For they are at the mercy of a man who is convinced he is a book, who hangs out with furries, and puppets, and makes them dress like the Gap threw up on them, and if this DOESN'T end with a murder-suicide pact with the great Old One Yog-Sothoth, EVERYONE will be surprised.
The whining is annoying, but at least - AT LEAST - they aren't doing what most kids would do in this situation. Screaming.
Is it just me or does Psalty sound a lot like Kevin?
I thought the same thing. Lol
I thought it was kevins voice at least twice
