As a 22 year old going to school to become a teacher, and growing up watching Arthur. I can’t wait to share the Arthur episodes with my students and my own children. I really miss Arthur.
Hard to believe it’s been on 25 years, I remember in 1997 my 8th grade English and and homeroom teacher loved the show, so sometimes we’d watch episodes in class rather than book work. But the first book I read was Arthur’s Eyes in the first grade in 1990 and that’s also the year I got my first glasses.
Just think, if Marc Brown didn't let the merchandising happen the show may well have only lasted one season despite its success. It's just amazing that Arthur was able to last 25 continuous years and garner multiple generations of fans. It went out with a bang as well with the All Grown Up finale.

Came here because the show finally ended its run recently. SPOILER: The show ends with a grown up Arthur Read, now a author of a autobiographical graphic novel, previewing his book to his friends. First chapter actually explaining the very first episode. Meta but nice ending. (The original voice actor came back to reprise his role as Arthur in the finale.) I use to watch this everyday as a kid. Even though I'll miss it, I'm glad it ended on a good note as it didn't overstay its welcome like what the Simpsons is doing. I enjoyed watching this documentary! I thought it was really informative! Especially when it spoke about how Arthur went from being a book series to a successful tv show for many years! I’m glad I grew up on this PBS classic!
This show will always have a place in my heart 💛🤎🤍 no other kids show has tackled life issues that children ages 4-10 would experience and I could say all school aged children like Arthur. All the original characters are memorable and so cute! I’m 32 going on 33 and I was in kindergarten when the show first aired. I was excited because Marc Brown’s books were the first books I read. I’m rewatching (binge watching) episodes now it’s so much nostalgia and brings me comfort. Marc Brown’s legacy will continue on with Arthur.
I loved watching Arthur, growing up in the 2000s and 2010s, the show was a highlight of my childhood, I mean I watch episodes of Arthur here on RUclips, and I guess I subscribed to the channel and followed the show's IG and I hope that kids today will feel that feeling of Joy and Hope that we probably all felt while watching the show and I damn sure hope they appreciate it as much as we did.😃😃😃
I may be old now, but Arthur still holds a special place in my heart from my childhood. Pretty sure I watched every episode as they aired from Season 1 until somewhere around Season 13. From there I caught the odd episode now and then until the switch to Flash animation and totally abandoned it--it just looked so much cheaper and was hard to watch. But I'll always consider those early seasons as some of the best kid's programming ever.
The best PBS Kids show of all time. That and WordGirl are tied for my favorite animated show on the channel and had such a big impact on me as a child.
Arthur will always be the one and only legendary aardvark that's hit our bookstores/libraries and TVs. :) It's the end of the series, but it's not the end of the fun.
23:45 I’m kind of glad the show ended given the direction was going. Starting with the switch to flash-based animation, and some of the subject matter they covered I think I’m happy watching the OG seasons.
I am surprised that Arthur was still getting new releases into this year. From all the times I've looked at the PBS station here in the last 5 years, nearly all shows I see are nothing I recognize. Only time I would catch Arthur was late at night on the kids channel. Was very nostalgic to watch old reruns, and was happy to see a few years ago that the christmas special was still played. I'll miss the show. But so happy that the RUclips trend is going towards highlighting the amazingly humorous PBS kids cartoons like Arthur, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Martha Speaks, Word Girl, and hopefully others. Currently, I work at a library and my mother sometimes teases me with the classic "Having fun isn't hard"
Funfact: Various Arthur books had their illustrations redesigned so younger generations would recognize them more easily due to the population of the show. Books such as, "Arthur's Eyes", "Arthur's Valentine" "Arthur goes to camp", "Arthur's April Fool", And of course "Arthur's Halloween".
Fantastic documentary Arthur is my second favorite cartoon of all time this show is easily pbs’s answer to the Simpsons (which is my favorite cartoon of all time) As far as ranking is concerned Arthur is s tier alongside the Simpsons spongebob squarepants Ed edd and eddy nightmare Ned family guy South Park bobs burgers beavis and butthead king of the hill daria Futurama dilbert the critic Harvey beaks the grim adventures of billy and Mandy invader zim rick and morty and rockos modern life
I love Arthur. Today I watch it with my little daughter and she absolutely loves it. If more shows were like this instead of the garbage that kids are being fed over the TV and internet.
Really great overview of a show I still really love! ^v^ Also, I'm kinda surprised that you didn't mention the recent 1-hr special where Arthur and Buster have to deal with being separated in the 4th grade and DW and her friends experiencing Kindergarten. Other than that small oversight, this was a great vid, and I'm both excited and sad for the final Arthur season. Really hoping they create something truly special.
Yes we should have! The script and a lot of it was already completed when the special came out so that is why we didn't include it. But maybe we will come out with a video about the special and the rest of Season 25 later!
I’m guessing it was the Mandela effect, but I always thought Buster leaving for a season happened way later than season 2, closer to when Postcards from Buster started airing
Arthur has become popular in 3 forms of satire, Such as a robot chicken short , three adult Arthur videos by AOK and this is the most popular one- a vyond series called Arthur gets grounded
Also, in the episode April 9th, Muffy graciously offers Sue Ellen a new journal, with acid-free paper and a faux velvet cover, but Sue Ellen denies the gift. Muffy tries again with another personalized journal, bound with "genuine imitation suede" and its own pen. Sue Ellen accepts this one, and she continues using it as her new diary. And after the fire, Arthur and his classmates temporarily go to Mighty Mountain. And Binky pulls the fire alarm and triggers a false fire alert. And Binky does work with Mr. Frensky
I'm still reading Arthur books aloud to the children for "Storytime With Andrea" on Zoom, because they're beginning to 🤣 when I do the voices out loud.
I'm excited to see how the final season of Arthur will go, I think there's some potential to make the series finale really great. We'll just have to wait and see... Great video 👍
You created an excellent video! I was sad to see that you do not have more content.. but if you were going to talk about PBS, then Arthur is the only animation that should be used.
Arthur is one of the two shows (along with Berenstain Bears) that I liked as a toddler, that I still would watch now as an adult. But Arthur remains my favorite and I like pretty much all the episodes, even from the latest seasons. I think it should come back with the kids all grown up, based on the last episode, and it could be geared more to adults who grew up with the show with adult topics, but remaining wholesome, being more like shows like Full House or Friends.
cause im from australia, the ABC would broadcast episode's of arthur and I instantly loved the show. I hope that someday I can show arthur and the gang to my future kids

Season 1 includes classics such as Arthur's Eyes/Francine's Bad Hair Day, Arthur and the Real Mr. Ratburn/Arthur's Spelling Trubble, DW's Imaginary Friend, Arthur's Birthday, and Arthur's Baby/DW's Baby
My personal favorite episode was of Arthur and DW throwing their granny a party after sensing she was lonely. The parents told them to invite granny's personal friends only, but Arthur invited his entire class; I found that absolutely hilarious looking back on it.
Yeah I was one of those folks who wrote to PBS to get “ Lance Armstrong “ pulled 1. He’s a loser/ cheater / drug addict 2. To teach kids doing drugs is okay / not educational 3. To teach kids to cheat to achieve goals / not educational 4. To take steroids / can be influential and send a bad message Thank god that episode is pulled!
Well since you wrote to PBS about that they won't show this anymore but it's not like they care about it because it was for the Florida market basically: ruclips.net/video/KEU2JKEFmco/видео.html
I knew watching Arthur on PBS on KLRN-TV 9 cable 10 (the PBS affiliate in the San Antonio, TX, area (I lived at Fort Sam Houston)) on weekday afternoons during the time period when the program first came out in October 7, 1996. It was an weekday afternoon diversion.
I love arthur! This show taughts kids the meaning of life, when parents wouldn't. We're living in a time where parent are hindering their own childs education by censoring it. I love how arthur handle autism, disabilities, LGBTQ+ community, and other life learning lessons. "Bleep!" was probably the most responsible episode ever made to teach kids about the power of words and how some words are hurtful and disrespectful. This is Arthur. Not just an icon but also a mentor. This is also what makes PBS amazing.
The sentence at 5:15 alone sums up why the show still holds up, because it does what a lot of educational shows don't: not talking down to their audience.

thanks for bringing this to us it was fun to watch
Awww thank you!!! It was fun to make! :)
But not for 25 years!!!!!!!😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😨
Would love to see a documentary like this about "The Magic School Bus"
Agreed! Would love to see an episode about how it made the leap to television screens!
MY CHILDHOOD
So many good memories!!! :)
NO it's your manifest
@@pbsrewindWhat’s your favorite episode of Arthur
Arthur will always be the one and only legendary aardvark that's hit our bookstores/libraries and TVs. :)
It's the end of the series, but it's not the end of the fun.
23:45 I’m kind of glad the show ended given the direction was going. Starting with the switch to flash-based animation, and some of the subject matter they covered I think I’m happy watching the OG seasons.
This will surely brighten up my day!
We hope you have a wonderful kind of day! :)
In between the first and second halves of each episode, the show has a segment called "A Word From Us Kids"
This was amazing. I definitely want to see what other PBS shows you will cover.
As a '90s kid, "Arthur" was a huge part of my childhood. It's great to see it lasted so long, but it should keep going!
Wqtching this after watching the "All Grown Up" episode.
Thank you for this documentary.
Happy 25th Anniversary to one of my favorite animated shows.
Yeah, but sooner or later, it'll be time to say good-bye to Arthur.
@@mikesmemoriesfromthepast89 Well I am preparing for it. Especially since the last season will air next year.
I wanted Arthur to end before television changed!!!!!!!!!
Popular programs aren't immortal, I wanted Arthur to end before children's cartoons died!!!!!!!!
Why doesn't this channel have more subscribers?
Funfact: Various Arthur books had their illustrations redesigned so younger generations would recognize them more easily due to the population of the show. Books such as, "Arthur's Eyes", "Arthur's Valentine" "Arthur goes to camp", "Arthur's April Fool", And of course "Arthur's Halloween".
I really love the history of Arthur maybe you should make other PBS Kids shows history videos like this
Great job, loved the video.❤
We're really happy to hear that! Thank you for watching! :)
@@pbsrewindThe show has other characters such as Nadine, Fern, Prunella, Molly MacDonald, Emily, and Timmy and Tommy Tibble
DW played the Crazy Bus song a million times on the show
Fantastic documentary
Arthur is my second favorite cartoon of all time this show is easily pbs’s answer to the Simpsons (which is my favorite cartoon of all time)
As far as ranking is concerned Arthur is s tier alongside the Simpsons spongebob squarepants Ed edd and eddy nightmare Ned family guy South Park bobs burgers beavis and butthead king of the hill daria Futurama dilbert the critic Harvey beaks the grim adventures of billy and Mandy invader zim rick and morty and rockos modern life
I love Arthur. Today I watch it with my little daughter and she absolutely loves it. If more shows were like this instead of the garbage that kids are being fed over the TV and internet.
I remember watching this show all the time when I was a little boy 👦 I grew up watching all these shows when I was little
Really great overview of a show I still really love!
@@pbsrewindThere's an episode called "Arthur's Dummy Disaster"
Great job!!! I love the video!!! 😍
Awww thank you!!! We really appreciate it! :)
4:19 I’m glad they choose the normal small eyes like DW for episode 1
Arthur is my favorite anime
I’m guessing it was the Mandela effect, but I always thought Buster leaving for a season happened way later than season 2, closer to when Postcards from Buster started airing
Arthur has become popular in 3 forms of satire,
Such as a robot chicken short , three adult Arthur videos by AOK and this is the most popular one- a vyond series called Arthur gets grounded
We're really looking forward to it too!
And maybe we'll finally find out what happened to DW's snowball!
She still thinks that Arthur took it!
I want to go back to the 2000s, I don't want to live in the future!!!!!!!
Arthur was one of those shows that parents encouraged their kids to watch
You created an excellent video! I was sad to see that you do not have more content.. but if you were going to talk about PBS, then Arthur is the only animation that should be used.
My childhood show is coming to an end this year.
The end of an era!
here’s to the greatest show on the planet 🥂
PBG would love this
Omg! Is this actually the PBS Rewind I follow on TikTok? Hi hi hiiiiiiii!!!! Your content brings back so many great memories!!! :3
That scene in "Bleep" always makes me laugh.
Season 3 featured the classic episode "DW All Fired Up"
Arthur is one of the two shows (along with Berenstain Bears) that I liked as a toddler, that I still would watch now as an adult.
The theme songs brings me back to the kindergarten days. I remember spring days in my trailer park, sun shining, birds chirping and my mom cooking me food while this played in the background
Waiting for history of Angelina Ballerina, Thomas and Friends, Teletubbies, Boohbah, Jakers!: The Adventures Of Piggly Winks, The Electric Company(1970s series), Wishbone, Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego? Season 1 includes classics such as Arthur's Eyes/Francine's Bad Hair Day, Arthur and the Real Mr. Ratburn/Arthur's Spelling Trubble, DW's Imaginary Friend, Arthur's Birthday, and Arthur's Baby/DW's Baby
Arthur's Perfect Christmas was released on home video on September 12, 2000, two weeks before Season 5 premiered
Season 5 premiered September 4, 2000, so the home video release was a week later.
19:08 The episode in question was Big Brother Binky
My mom and my 3 Aunts along with my grandma and grandpa love the show
So heartbroken this is coming to an end. This is my childhood and I’d often come back and revisit it for nostalgic comfort.
My personal favorite episode was of Arthur and DW throwing their granny a party after sensing she was lonely. The parents told them to invite granny's personal friends only, but Arthur invited his entire class; I found that absolutely hilarious looking back on it.
It was the episode "Grandma Thora Appreciation Day"
Yeah I was one of those folks who wrote to PBS to get “ Lance Armstrong “ pulled
1. He’s a loser/ cheater / drug addict
2. To teach kids doing drugs is okay / not educational
3. To teach kids to cheat to achieve goals / not educational
4. To take steroids / can be influential and send a bad message
Thank god that episode is pulled!
There are also two other episodes with Lance or a character based on him that also no longer air after Lance admitted to doping.
Well since you wrote to PBS about that they won't show this anymore but it's not like they care about it because it was for the Florida market basically:
ruclips.net/video/KEU2JKEFmco/видео.html
What episode was it
Wow, nice to hear from someone who wanted the Lance Armstrong episode pulled! Now let’s hear from one of the voice actors!
The Great MacGrady replaced Lance Armstrong with Uncle Slam
Never thought I’d find this after the final episode. I’m glad I did.
I have been waiting all day to get home and watch this!
Awww, we hope it was the worth the wait! Thank you for taking your time to watch it! :)
@@pbsrewindIn Elwood City Turns 100, one of the multiple challenges was the Frensky's garbage truck breaking down
I love arthur!
This is still your only video? Please post more, I love your commentary
