    Love to see so many children able to access and explore their area independently and safely, without the obstructions and dangers of fast roads and excessive vehicular traffic. I will always admire the Dutch and their ability to prioritise people and space for people over vehicular space in their urban spaces and street designs, especially in residential and town and city centres, as well as the ease of access to places on bike and foot, safely

      We look out for each other. Some might call that socialist but to us it's just cost efficient. Happy people contribute to the whole and spread good vibes, sad/angry people cost money and spread sadness. I hope you have a nice day! Suggest the home gets a puppy or kitten. Those things eat stress like nothing else.

      It is both! By separating bicycle infra from car/truck infra both get safer and better.
      And if we would grand pedestrians their own, complete, infra as well, all means of transport will profit.
      @Jedediah Wright
      It makes infra more expensive to have underpasses and overpasses.
      And all infrastructures need lights, maintenance, snow and ice removal, autumn leaves sweeping etc. Separate equipment because a big snow truck cannot be used for narrow cycle paths.

    It is interesting to see a bit of suburban sprawl even in the Netherlands. I love the overpass devoted to pedestrians and bicycles around minute 9. I love how the path does not stop, but the automobile roads do. I am not too keen on motor scooter using the bike way.

    • @Michiel_de_Jong

      Talking about "urban sprawl" and 's Hertogenbosch .... they have a very interesting, somewhat experimental neighborhood just north of the city : 51°43'37.56"N, 5°15'7.44"O ... spots of very high population density in a park-like surrounding.

    • @dutchman7623
      @dutchman7623 4 года назад +1

      "a bit of suburban sprawl" is very underestimated. Two areas are famous for having grown into a continuous city: Randstad and Brabantse Stedenvork.
      The Benelux with bordering Nord Rhein Westphalen (D) have a population of more than 50 million. With Paris (F) and London (UK) very close by.

    • @Michiel_de_Jong
      @Michiel_de_Jong 4 года назад

      @@dutchman7623 | It might be that the term "suburban sprawl" bears the negative connotation associated with the low density, spread out suburbia, which creates long distances and high infra structure costs. In that respect there is little suburban sprawl in 's Hertogenbosch. Even Rosmalen to which Jonathan referred (which is a neighboring city), is within 5[km] from the major public transport hub, shopping centers, and industrial area's of 's Hertogenbosch. It's all high density, even the dutch suburbs.

    • @dutchman7623
      @dutchman7623 4 года назад

      @@Michiel_de_Jong Of course high or low density is relative. City planning differs from the US, every suburb has its schools and shops, and railway stations are created to accommodate travel by public transport.
      Nevertheless "De Groote Wielen" is situated near Rosmalen but a suburb of 's-Hertogenbosch. Rosmalen itself already became a suburb of the city decades ago.
      Every time the city doubled in size, the population only increased with 20 percent.
      The build-up area has grown 30 fold in the last century, population grew from 50.000 to 160.000. That is sprawl.
      And I do get it that my grandparents with young children, had to live in one house with three other families. This caused unacceptable situations. The same house is now inhabited by only one person.
      Suburban sprawl may not be as dull as in the US, more space per family was necessary, but now our cities are growing together into a big urbanized area.

    I've watched lots of your videos now and I still find it surprising what percentage of the (relatively few admittedly) roadside advertisements are in English rather than Dutch. • @BicycleDutch
