Great video as always! I have enjoyed the Ridgid Gen5X Stealth Force Impact Driver kit that I won on your channel about ten months ago. Thanks again for it and all of your great video's.
Great review, I bought the 7 1/4" miter saw because I was having to take my 12" w/stand out all the time for my job. The 7 1/4 is worth the money in just saving time alone. Great saw accurate and last me all day on one battery. The charger is amazing too! It charged my old Ni-cad batteries where my older charger wouldn't. You put a 5 Gen batt in old gen tools and it wears off that old tool smell quickly. Thanks for the top five review. I agree.
I got the 5pc kit a year and a half ago and will agree the circular saw is an awesome saw. In fact I find myself rarely using my corded saw anymore because its so nice to not have to deal with the cord when cutting sheet goods. and there is plenty of run time cutting 2x material also.
I have all of those tools except the Stealth Impact. I have the Gen5x impact and it's 10 times louder than the Stealth, buying it from Home Depot now :) Thank you for this video.
I am currently building out my 18V Ridgid platform, all of my tools are registereed with the LSA I've had no need yet to use the wanrranty I hope its there when I need it.
I needed a random orbital sander two weeks ago. I wanted to get the ridgid because it's cordless and I already have the ridgid gen5x set I won't on your channel. home depot was out of them. they were in the clearance section where the tools they're trying to get rid of are but they didn't have any more. I decided to get a different one and read a ton of reviews on the best random orbital Sanders and to my surprise the cordless ridgid sander got bad reviews. I went with the corded DeWalt instead.
Weird....I know my local HD was clearancing them out a few months ago & then they reappeared at the normal price. For the $69....not dragging the cord around & having good power levels is something that I like. The dust collection on this one is excellent....it doesnt throw a cloud everywhere like others that I have used. Most of the complaints that I have heard are people whining about the LSA (and need to register tools) or the size/weight of the sander.....for me, I have not had issues with it.
Real Tool Reviews The main complaints were how uncomfortable it was to use compared to the corded versions. I believe their corded sander has great reviews.
Hmm...I've been thinking of getting a cordless brushless miter saw...was thinking between the Milwaukee and DeWalt, but their both much more expensive and the Milwaukee only operates off of batteries, which makes me wonder how much of a long-term investment it will become. I'm now starting to think the Ridgid might be the best option (and certainly the most affordable) based on the lifetime warranty...I also really dig their Stealth Impact and BT radio...I'm a DIY guy so I don't really *need* a 10" or 12" saw...
Thanks for the video! Love the fan, other than the contol knob being backwards... Counterclockwise makes it slower and High is just before off??? I see the router in the Backgroung... where's the review???
Nice stuff man, I noticed that that circular saw has the blade on the right. Most other lines (18v) have left sided blades, do you have a preference? I see the new Flexvolt has right sided blade where the 20vollt max is left sided, and everyone has a preference it seems but no real reason behind it--do you have any insight to left vs. right sided blades?
+Steven Smith RH blades are typical with sidewinder style saws (common on the East Coast) & LH blades are typical on wormdrive saws (common on the West Coast).....basically whichever people grew up using is the style they stick with. I think all saws should come with RH & LH versions.
As a lefty, I agree. I'm on the Westcoast, but most of the saws I see are sidewinder's. Wormdrives seem popular with the older crowd, but as a lefty, I always get a bit off-kilter using sidewinders. Oh well, first-world problems for sure :)
As far as I've seen, 6 1/2" cordless saws are typically left blade and 7 1/4" cordless and corded saws are typically right blade, cordless trim saws are typically right blade, and corded worm drive saws are typically left blade. There are some brands that have left blade versions for 7 1/4" corded saws, but I've yet to see a cordless left blade 7 1/4". I prefer left handed saws and I'm right handed - it is considered improper because 1) less risk of cutting fingers and 2) the weight of the saw is off the drop piece when used properly. I still have my trusty left blade corded Makita from the 90's, still works like new.
Thanks for the replies guys. I have noticed the 'trends', left sided blades on trim and worm drives, right on sidewinder. I'm right handed but like the blade on the left. Not really sure why but I think it's because as I push it through it seems the back edge of the blade tends to pull away from the workpiece and there is no binding. Maybe a clearer line of sight. I haven't used a right sided blade in so long I can barely remember ha.
It can help a lot to consciously teach yourself to be somewhat ambidextrous as a carpenter - it works wonders in efficiency. 15+ years ago on one of my first jobs my boss made it a point to tell me that I should try to learn to be ambidextrous as a carpenter and I made it a point to do just that. Now, when using a right bladed saw I almost automatically pull from the right and cut on the left side of the horses with my left hand and can do it just about as well as with my right hand. I can do a lot left handed now pretty well but I'm definitely still more clumsy with it. But there's always situations that call for it and if I saw that old boss now I'd have to tell him he gave me some of the best advice ever.
after picking up the grinder and router yesterday I have all the brushless tools except the nailers. any reason you chose the brushed saw over the brushless?
Other than run-times, they are basically the same.....the brushless does last longer (more cuts per charge), but I have just been using the brushed for longer & will typically grab it. Side-by-side the brushless would "win".....but I dont use it as much.
RIDGID is exclusive to the Home Depot, so I am assuming that they release tools based upon the user feedback given at the store/corporate level.....if that is something you would like, I would suggest telling Home Dept --- it just might happen!
I don't think I've ever had an impact overheat and cut off on me running deck screws. Then again I've only used Dewalt, Bosch, and Makita. No doubt a Ryobi or Black and Decker would crap out completely halfway through screwing down the decking.
Sure......some manufacturers program tools to run way too hard in order to get higher specs (think of too many RPM in your car's motor to get more HP). In addition to this, certain battery platforms are prone to overheating under heavy loads. They will call it "thermal overload protection".....in reality is means the tool overheats & they want you to think that is a good thing.
Oh okay I see thanks for the reply. So which platforms are prone to overheating? How does it relate to NiCad versus Lithium Ion? Back when I was building a lot of decks I had Dewalt XRP stuff and didn't have any problems, I don't think those had overload protection. I have Makita stuff now and haven't really put the impact to that much of a test but I have triggered the overload protection in the grinder and the oscillating multi tool. I had a guy working with me back in the deck days with old Makita NiCad tools and he didn't have any problems that I remember. This is kind of making me think maybe Milwaukee ramps up their impacts in the way that you're saying. I have a buddy with Milwaukee stuff that uses the impact to screw down decks but I don't know if he has issues with it. Any insight? Thanx man. Good video btw.
Edward Zablocki would u care to elaborate on the issues with warranty. i am looking to purchase some rigid tools would love to have some info going in thanks
I use almost all Rigid power tools. I literally beat the shit out of these tools. Really, I hammer the shit out of my tools. Only twice did one fail. One was a corded 7" grinder that we used for grinding welds and everything in between for years. We were grinding concrete on a hot day and plugged it up with concrtete dust. If course it failed. We walked into H.D., told them my problem and they said just go grab another off the shelf. The other tool was a cordless recip saw. Once again, beat the living shit out of this saw for a 3 years. Walked into H.D. and they told me to grab another off the shelf. I truly work my tools and really abuse them. I can buy any tool I want, when I want without question. Money is no object. I choose to buy Rigid because they do the job for me, time and time again.
Yeah....you have to register them (for free) within 90 days of purchase. Funny thing, almost ALL complaints about it online are from people who never registered their tools, so they aren't covered.
Interesting, i saw many negative things about rigid and ended up going to Makita. A lot of people in my business highly recommended Makita over any other manufacturers.
the sander is straight up trash jumps all over the wood its so bad i dont even use for little touch ups anymore dewalt makes the best cordless sander its my go to every time i need to sand something even thought i have corded dewalt sander i always use the cordless one because of instant stop future and being able to use it wherever you are and you dont need power cord the ridgid impact is so bulky specially the part you hande i didnt use it twice bosch and the milwaukee is the best one when it comes to impact driver i also have a dewalt one but i keep it as a secondary one to my bosch impact driver i love the ridgit fan it was half the price and just as good as the dewalt one if not better i love ridgit led hybrid work light best tool i have folding one i am talking about i also just purchased the ridgit cordless belt sander i need to try that tomorrow its a good company and worth spend some money on their tools if you know what tool you should get they have crazy battery deals usually so you can save pretty good money by having some of the tools from ridgit
MUST buy from home depot if you want LSA warranty! This is lame. Other brands don't care where you bought it and honor warranty based on serial number although other brands have 3 and 5 yr warranties.
i gotta disagree with this list. i bought that sander and immediately returned it. sure it's convenient, but in my opinion poorly designed. i could never get a comfortable hand position with it. the dust collection is a joke and it's low powered. this is a rear miss for ridgid.
If you're looking to switch I would recommend the Makita cordless 5" random orbit, it's great. Ergonomical, powerful, comfortable, and good dust collection.
Great video as always! I have enjoyed the Ridgid Gen5X Stealth Force Impact Driver kit that I won on your channel about ten months ago. Thanks again for it and all of your great video's.

I still have dewalt 5 piece combo from 15 years ago...but i just purchased a stealth force pulse driver kit which is excellent so far.
I have all of those tools except the Stealth Impact. I have the Gen5x impact and it's 10 times louder than the Stealth, buying it from Home Depot now :) Thank you for this video.
Great Line ! Ridgid Gen 4X - 5X tools have always been good tools .
alan j Hornung I adore mine but since getting the 12v ones I barely touch my 18v stuff. Granted, it's just home repair and knifemaking for me
Love this series great vid as usual you set the standard
You and the Lockpickinglawyer have the same voice. Great video man!
Haha thanks!
Can you do a review on the Ridgid 1/2 Impact?
I am currently building out my 18V Ridgid platform, all of my tools are registereed with the LSA I've had no need yet to use the wanrranty I hope its there when I need it.
How is Ridgig stacking up to Makita, Dewalt, Hitachi and other name brands?
I needed a random orbital sander two weeks ago. Thanks I really enjoy the series!

can you give your thought on the new Milwaukee 2016 magnetic tape measure?
Can you do the Ridgid Impact wrench?
It's great.. Just got one two weeks ago.. Love it.. Powerful, battery life is great and well, it's ridgid.
Sorry replied in the wrong box before. Is Rigid honoring the service agreement for proffesional Techs in the Auto Industry?
Thanks for the video!
Love the fan, other than the contol knob being backwards... Counterclockwise makes it slower and High is just before off???
I see the router in the Backgroung... where's the review???
Thanks! Yeah, I wish fans started out low & ramped up to high ---- but as far as I know, this is typical for fan switches (i.e. -- box fans).
Excellent review. I will definitely check out the Rigid line of products...Abe Azar
Have you done any Panasonic tools ?

They have a collated drywall screw gun, hard to find I bought a used one and love it!!
Do you think Ridgid is coming with a brushless 1/2in Impact?
Out now
do the different amp hour batteries affect torque in impact wrenches or impact drivers?
+itsalltaken666 yes....check out the video that I made "Does size matter?"
Ok. I will check it out. Thanks.
I just wondering...ist support for recharging 220v or just 220v as in US ?
heemo jamal no, 110-120V in north America
Did Ridgid discontinue this miter saw because you can't find it online anymore or in Home Depot ?
Perhaps. Since it is only sold @ Home Depot....if they cut it, it’s gone.
Isn't Kobalt 7 1/4 saw brushless also
hi im planning to buy a transformer for ridgid charger, how many watts for a transformer is gonna need?
No clue....I assume one that works with USA plugs @ 115/120v.
Feels wrong having the five of them all lined up on a DeWalt toolbox.

Is Rigid Honoring the service agreement for proffesional Techs like me that work in the auto industry?
How do you register?
is brushless ridgid tools on youre video?
+Carlos Gama Contreras Aguilar two of them are.....the Stealth Force & cordless Miter Saw.
Real Tool Reviews thanks men
you talk like a reporter and say own instead of on haha but good video man and learned a bunch , great video man !
Gotta love accents :) haha

I like Ridgid quality but is it just me or are they a lot heavier than DeWalt and Makita?
Agree
Why aren't all the tool able to be "hybrid" using both wall and cordless, is this just so the companies are able to profit ?
Batteries die/become outdated = you have to buy all the same tools all over again.....what do you think?
why should be on the weather channel for the way you talk, back to you ken, thank you john

Real Tool Reviews loll loved the come back
The tools look decent. Would never purchase though due to horrible warranty experience.
