Fun fact: The Inuit and other First Nation peoples who used these snow houses actually call them snow houses. The term Igloo referred to any type of house they lived in including their summer tents, semi-subterranean buildings, and the snow houses!!
My senior year in High School we went on a wilderness trip to Craters of the Moon in Idaho in the Winter. Our Science teacher divided us up into 3 groups. Our group built an igloo, one built a snow cave, and one a lean to with a hugh boulder back drop. There were 4 people in each group. Our igloo was much smaller but very warm with just a candle burning and we didn't have to even wear coats in the igloo. We slept in it for 2 nights. The ones who built the snow cave were warm too but it kept sinking down until it was only a few inches from their face. I couldn't sleep in a snow cave I don't think. The ones in the lean to were not as warm. They had to keep a fire going all night to stay warm enough. It was a fun trip and experience.
I'm not 100% sure but it looks like you had cotton clothes on when you decided to sleep in igloo. As we say in Norway "ull er gull" (wool is gold). Forget about cotton in winter, especially as the layer closest to the skin, it just makes you cold (same as jeans). Small kids in Norway sleep (nap) outside year round, they wear thin woollen layer (leggings and long sleeves), thick woollen jumper and pants, two pairs of woolen socks (not too tight), woollen gloves and woollen balaclava. Lamb skin is used as insulation between sleeping bag and the pram. And this winter we had couple of weeks with -20 during the day. If you cannot stand wool, bamboo clothing has basically the same effectiveness. Good luck :)

A very applaudable attempt at an igloo! That said, I really enjoyed the video and the monumental effort! You guys rock and I look forward to each new "episode". The cabin is looking great! Thank you for sharing your journey and life with all of us out here in internet land!
Congrats on your anniversary, and also on completing your MASSIVE igloo. A little background, my husband and I have been snow camping for about 20 years now, (yes we backpack and sleep in the snow) and we also teach classes on how to build igloos. If you can imagine as we watched your video of the build over 3 days, we were dying and wanted to just step through the screen and help. With the right snow conditions one can knock out a 'gloo in about 3 hours, not large enough for a queen mattress (we laughed so hard at that!) but just large enough to fit 2 people and a dog comfortably for the weekend. It is an exhausting process, but can be very rewarding especially if you build during a calm day, and get to survive a raging storm through the night in the silence of your 'gloo snuggled in sleeping bags with 1L nalgene bottles full of hot water tucked into your bags by your feet and upper torso. If you'd like to see some photos of our classes click here: www.snowcamping.org/photos.php then the gallery link at the bottom. In the years 2014 / Alumni trips / Igloo 101 and also 2013 / Alumni Trips / Cut and 'gloo We love you both, and your team work and positive spirit in all that you do and look forward to sharing more of your new homestead journey. Peace.

Congratulations on getting that to stay up. After watching this I checked out the igloo building scene in 'Nanook of the North' (1922) to see how the pros did it. Nanook's igloo was much smaller and made of larger rectangular blocks. The clever bit was an added block of ice for a window complete with a sun reflector to direct light inside. If you slept separately that may explain why you got too cold during the night. Nanook's family huddled together under an animal skin. Would be interesting to know how their animal pelts matched up to a modern duvet for tog rating.

Awesomely worth it! I was amazed how you could just stick those bricks horizontally. Way to go Bec! I think you would have been warmer in a smaller igloo. Make sure you update us on the igloo melt!

A great anniversary video !. And the dog with the sweater was so cute and funny.
That’s a huge igloo. Way back when I was in Boy Scouts, they taught us, that we could heat an igloo with a candle. (Look up candle lantern.) 1-Ventilation is key. Everyone wakes up in the morning. Especially on one’s anniversary. 2-Trench to the entrance, & tunnel to the door. 3-Sleep on an elevated platform. Cold air pools to the lowest level. It create a cold well, if you sleep there, you won’t wake up. 4-Light your candle at the same level as your sleeping platform. 5-Snow is a great insulator. 1 foot = 30cm. The candle lantern, (the candle inside its aluminum housing.) Could raise the temp 20 degrees. If you do this igloo challenge again, please try out this simple heater. Cheers from USA.

The effort y’all put into your videos, podcast, COOKBOOK, business, personal life, social media, ALL OF IT is filled with such rigor and life and love and quality and compassion and LAUGHS. that for all the people who haven’t seen your content due to COMPLETELY JACKED algorithms there’s still SO many of us who feel truly inspired, uplifted and not alone right now because of you. Thank you for being true to yourselves and following your dreams. I can only hope to cultivate theses characteristics in myself as I grow.
Everything y’all put out is surely coming back to you, your insanely inspirational leaders of humanity’s most authentically beautiful aspects, to me at least and I’m so thrilled that y’all exist and do what you do. NEVER GIVE UP.
You had me cracking up...hope you enjoyed it. You know you're going to have to build one once the kids come into the picture...lmao
Wishing you both many more years of happiness.
Gooood morning Eamon and Bec! I gotta say lockdown has hit everyone really hard. We're in a non stop lockdown since November... It's really comforting to know that I get to spend my Sunday afternoons with you guys! ❤️
Are you in Germany too? :)
@@KristinaKk_xx120 no, I live in Greece. Really tough times for everyone! You're in a lockdown since November too? Cause a buddy of mine who lives there told me lockdown began in mid December in his town
@@marymour6211 Lockdown "light" began November 1st and a more stricter lockdown started in December.
Hang in there!!
@@KristinaKk_xx120 you too 🙂

I bought the t-shirt I wanted and a beanie and then my boyfriend was like “can you get me a beanie too?” IVE BROUGHT HIM TO THE EAMON AND BEC TEAM
AWEEEE!!!! This just made my heart so so happy!! Big love to you and your boyfriend Brie 🤗 !! Can't wait to see you both rocking the matching beanies. And boyfriend -- welcome to the team 😉
A very applaudable attempt at an igloo! There are factors involved that require a bit more finesse and would allow for you to have a heat source inside without worry of the structure melting and allowing you to keep it above freezing.
Peace.
“Do you want me to go to another room?” Too funny
Epic igloo! what's next?! the most amazing treehouse build! 🌳 + 🏠 = 🏡
What a delightfully fun vlog, I thoroughly enjoy the spontaneity of this creative build challenge!
I wonder if you might have made it past midnight if you made a tunnel-in door. But man, how spacious your igloo is! V impressed with your building skills! Stay warm y'all.
Why did I smile like a child the whole video? 🥰🥰🥰
Happy 8 years! 🎉❄️
How to know you're Canadian: "like a raccoon looking through trash" 😂😂😂Highlight of my week, love you guys sm!!!!
HAHAHHA yes 😂
Definitely stay out there when the temps are warm enough. That looks like genuine Canadian fun!
“Eamon is just like a lipstick” 😂 perfect comparison haha
Hahah that didn't come out exactly as intended but you get the jist 😂
@@eamonandbec I enjoyed it, made me laugh! Haha
Crazy Canucks! I think almost every Saskatchewan kid built and slept in an igloo/snow fort in their younger years. Looks like you had the best anniversary ever ♥
it was worth it guys /you not only entertained us ,just think of the memories alone when you get older ,isn,t that what life is about ..you two just fit ...thank you
1. I’m with Eamon. I can’t believe those top bricks actually stayed!
2. I’m tired just watching this video.
3. My teeth hurt after watching Eamon open that Bubly!
4. I was going to buy the merch until you you left the igloo in the middle of the night 😉
So worth it! Yaaasss! You guys built a mutha freezn' igloo! ... aaand you decorated it...aaand you cooked in it....aaaand you fit a real bed in it....aaaand you ate beans in it...aaaand almost slept in it....aaaand you filmed the entire process....aaaand you advertised new merch....aaaand you made it look super cool. Wow and wow.
It would have been so cute if they said “those friends” and pointed to the camera!
Well I'm not sure COVID restrictions would love that but you are our friends 🤗
Emon and Bec today was one of those days where everything just piled on my shoulders and I was having really bad anxiety. I called my mom just bawling my eyes out and I was hyperventilating, and honestly all day I felt like crying because there’s just so much piling on me recently. But watching your guys video today made me feel so uplifted and happy!! Like I don’t feel on the verge of crying anymore. So, I just wanted to thank you guys 🥺 I’ve been watching your videos for a while and I just really appreciate you guys for being so pure and authentic. It’s refreshing ♥️♥️
Your videos always put me in a good mood btw, but today it just really helped!
OUR FAVORITE VIDEO!!! So worth is for us, anyway. The best escape from life! Thanks for your humor, kindness, and sense of fun.
Love these vids every Sunday morning, good to get a change from renovations. Can't wait to see the kitchen continue next week
It was a nice break for us too! Back to the cabin this week and it's going to be the BIGGEST transformation yet! We are giddy with excitement!!
just got the crystal sand crew & i am SO excited! i’m almost done renovating my bus & honestly you two are my inspiration. thank y’all for constant genueineinity & adventurous souls that inspire so many!
Y’all are my favorite couple, my parents aside. Here’s to a great eight, and another million! 💕
P.s. the igloo seems worth the experience. I’d maybe build a bit of a smaller one for my 5’2” self, but still worth it!
Awwe what a compliment Isabella! We appreciate that love 🤗
You guys are funny, hilarious, full of energy and wonderful to watch and share the superb moments of your interesting, adventurous life. All the best in the cabin in the woods....
I set my alarm and already bought a t-shirt AND sweatshirt. I missed out last time. Love you guys!!!
AWE thank you so so much for the support Robin 🤗!!! WOW!!
when you pushed that bed through the door i was dying laughing wow
You two, and Moussa, are adorable! Love it.
You guys are the BEST! And happy anniversary to the cutest couple on youtube. Thanks for ALL the smiles and laughs over all this time.
21:43 Eamon cracks me up!! You guys were so funny in this entire video!!! This was just a great video and message. “No matter how much you have on your “to do list” make time for fun and quality time with each other”
That looks like a lot of work - Kudos to you for persevering!
Thank you Sheryl! Was definitely a wild ride 😜
When you said it's time to talk about today's sponsor, I was imagining some Harvard educated marketing manager watching this video and yelling to his or her subordinate "What the HELL have you gotten us into?". Then I realized the sponsor was E&B and the marketing manager is Bob shaking his head saying "Where did I go wrong with this kid?". Keep up the great videos! 🚐❤️🐕😷
Omg I can’t even believe you guys even tried staying the night in the igloo!!! Lmao y’all are crazy. my butt would be in the house sleeping next to the pups so fast. Love this video 💚❤️💚
Haha it was pretty insane!!
Awesomely worth it! I was amazed how you could just stick those bricks horizontally. Way to go Bec! I think you would have been warmer in a smaller igloo. It's hard to heat the Taj Mahal with body heat! Also... A few more insulated duvets and maybe even not the individual bags would have helped.
But what a WAY fun project! Make sure you update us on the igloo melt!
Omg. You guys are hilarious. That thing was huuuggee. You guys are very dedicated, love it. I thought you left because the top caved in. Congrats for 8 years.
Was waiting all week for this! You guys are hilarious
Haha glad you enjoyed it Kim 🤗
*Pauses video to go buy merch for the first time* I can't wait for it to arrive! Love your videos
AHHHH amazing! Thank you Casey 🤗
“You’ve had a booger in your nose for 3 hours!”
“I don’t care!”
Definitely a part of the conversation I would have with my boyfriend if doing this 🤣
Hahah things were gettting a little testy at that point 😂
Lol!
You guys ever been to the ice hotel in Quebec.. cause that's mind blowing
@@colourful64able I have been to the ice castle in Québec City, but I was so little, I dont remember much about it. Later on, we used to watch the parade of the Carnaval de Québec on tv and see the castle it's impressive how they rebuilt it year after year. I heard that toi could even rent à room and sleep there overnigth. That would be awsome although with my osteoarthritis I don't think I'd be too comfortable sleeping on an ice bed.
Not only was it great content to watch because of you guys making a sick igloo, but seeing you guys have such an extraordinary experience together was so wholesome to watch. I love you guys and I love your relationship. See you Sunday!
That was the funniest thing we’ve seen in so long! Absolutely LOVED it! Thanks for the laughs!
Bec "-7 isn't that bad"
Me "thinking anything below 30 is too cold lol"
My 3yr old daughter after seeing their igloo " Momma lets go to Nanana!
I live in California, if it's below 60 it's too cold. 😉
@@VeganSoulMama same! i was boutta say anything under 60 is freezing lmao
“Eight years and he still doesn’t listen” ha ha try 25 . They still do eat listen but we love them regardless. Loved the project xo
Haha got to love them for them I guess 🤔
Bec's laughing is so contagious 😂
you 2....good for you to stick it out....and work that hard to finish the igloo....even stressful and Eamon being a "know it all" and bragging about his knowledge of physics and Bec always being positive and laughing..... trying to put a fun spin calling him on it his way of doing things...lipstick! A great anniversary video !. And the dog with the sweater was so cute and funny.
That’s a huge igloo.
Way back when I was in Boy Scouts, they taught us, that we could heat an igloo with a candle. (Look up candle lantern.)
1-Ventilation is key.
I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw Bec sitting on the floor of this humongous Igloo emptying her tank of water 😂 Also, Bec I always wanted to ask you if you could tell us what brand your sunglasses are? I love them!
This was so cool guys! Love how adventurous you guys are! Coolest couple ever 🥰
Wow, the amount of work you both put into this video is crazy, thank you and great job guys!
A bucket with a board over it for the nighttime visits is all you need. The cold will filter any smells : )
One week later and Merch is sold out!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. Philanthropy looks good on you both! Good job!
Happy Anniversary! Your dog looks adorable in the sweatshirt. Thanks for making me laugh. It is so nice to see that you are so happy together.
Been looking forwards to this all week! thank you two for brightening my Sunday up❤
Awe thanks for joining us for this igloo adventure Zoe! See you Sunday 🌞
hilarious project, I laughed the whole time watching this, igloo looks amazing!!!
Thanks Georgina!! So glad we could bring some laughter to your Sunday!
Best dog ever letting you dress him. Great job building and a lot of work.
