Who else is listening to this song by Sir George Michael today? Miss him and his music so much, but I know he's at peace. He said so himself "...my soul will be free, they won't go when I go." The good ones leave us too early. RIP GM ❤ you loved people and the world so much, but the world and people did not show you all the love you were due, when you were on earth, and walking amongst us. Your music will forever live on, as you intended.
Back in 1991 I was 18 years old. I was in a very low place and trying to get clean. My counselor gave me this tape. I had never been a fan of George Michael but she said just listen to something other than what you normally listen to. (which was at the time a lot of metal) This song I believe was on the b side. I had heard Stevie Wonder sing this song because my mom was big into motown. I never gave it much thought but I heard this version and His voice spoke to me. I listened to this song on repeat for weeks. Worked through some really shitty stuff and came out on the other side feeling like I could beat it. I have not touched cocaine since then and this song still gives me chills like it's god speaking to me and giving me courage to get through another day.
Aside from the unreal, untouchable vocals, there are two other examples of George's incredible talent and genius here: (1) Lead vocals were recorded live in one take, and (2) George did all the background vocals, forcing himself to alter his natural rhythms, pacing and phrasing so it would sound like a real choir. GENIUS.
He actually did several takes but nonetheless it is still awesome! Here's a different version he did with some parts probably added from different versions to come together nice on the final release. ruclips.net/video/jDLVlEHlNjE/видео.html

It's one of the most powerful, soulful songs I've ever listened to. I'll never get bored of listening to it. Amazing lyrics and sung so perfectly by George Michael. Just stunning!
OMG!!! That voice!!! I remember hearing this for the first time in 1990 and just bursting into tears half way through because it was so powerful and moving. Over the years I'd forgotten about it, but it just now played on YT's autoplay, and after nearly 30 years, it still has the power to make me sob!!! Thank you for your beautiful song Stevie Wonder! I can’t get rid of the obsession - this memorial prayer has been haunting me for several years already .... This is our fate, our tragedy and the words we have not spoken ..
I have great respect for Stevie Wonder, both as a human being and as a songwriter. However, I never did get into his music much and I was so amazed at how GM's covers made me see SW's composition through new eyes. George, for this cover alone - much less Jesus to a Child, I Can't Make You Love Me, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, among many divine songs - your place in heaven is secure. And so will your place in human history. For as long as there is one person left in this world who is moved by the sound of your voice, you will remain ever relevant. I feel your absence in this world profoundly. Have never been a screaming fan of any artist so the depth of my feelings for someone I have never met ... are a testament of what true talent can do, how it can reach across cultures and global barriers to reach anyone who is moved by your voice and creations. You have reached immortality. Love and respect. How I wish we could have had more time ("Praying for Time" ... but didn't get it) but thank you for all that you have left us.
While I've been a longtime fan of this song and frankly all things Stevie Wonder, George's vocals and overall production here are fantastic. This is how you do a cover!

I was never a fan of George Michael. But i did like the way he sang a ballad. This is a great rendition of the classic stevie wonder song.R.I.P. George Miichael.
Wow. Theres alot of guilty people out there that dismissed him as a teenybopper making songs for kids. Alot of people treated him like shit or doscounted his enormous talents. Remember when he caught shit for singing with aretha franklin because he was white. Some average artist with a quarter of michael's talent complained that he didnt belong singing with her. Piece of feces. Cant remember his name as nobody cares. The guy was, and still is a genius.
I just found out recently that George Michael passed away in 2016. I also just found out that he recorded this beautiful Stevie Wonder song. I am just blown away by his performance, because this is not the kind of song that I ever would have imagined George M. would record. His voice was powerful enough to carry it off and his interpretation was just beautiful. RIP, G.M.
I'm speechless and full of tears! I've listened to this this 100 times and I am as affected as if I am hearing it for the first time! Mad love for this beautiful genius.
I'd be honored if some GM fans would view my acoustic piano & vocal cover (live, no autotune) of PRAYING FOR TIME on my channel in tribute to George. As famous as he was, our man hasn't gotten his due for all the contributions he made to modern music as a vocalist, songwriter and producer. But eventually he will get his due. THANK YOU GEORGE. WE LOVE YOU.
Chill inducing, spell binding. It's like you could feel his pain in his singing. Even though this is a Stevie Wonder song, he makes it seem like his own and it fits in so incredibly well with the LWP album. One of my favorite GM songs.
The best rendition of any Steevie Wonder song that I've ever heard. George Micheal (Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou) was truly a gifted vocalist. Join the greats in the pantheon of music my friend.

No more lying friends
Wanting tragic ends
Though they do pretend
They won't go when I go
All those bleeding hearts
With sorrows to impart
Were right here from the start
And they won't go when I go
And I'll go where I've longed
To go so long
Away from tears
Gone from painful cries
Away from saddened eyes
Along with him I'll bide
Because they won't go when I go
Big men feeling small
Weak ones standing tall
I will watch them fall
They won't go when I go
And I'll go where I've longed
To go so long
Away from tears
Unclean minds mislead the pure
The innocent will leave for sure
For them there is a resting place
People sinning just for fun
They will never see the sun
For they can never show their faces
There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner
Who will take more than he will give
He ain't hardly gonna give
The greed of man will be
Far away from me
And my soul will be free
They won't go when I go
Since my soul conceived
All that I believe
The kingdom I will see
'Cause they won't go when I go
When I go
Where I'll go
No one can keep me
From my destiny

Same here. When the album came out, freedom was my favorite. I skipped this song, because i didnt liked it that much, when i listened the album. The more i heard it later, the more i liked it. As you said, with headphones.... wow. When he sings ... my destiny......stunning ❤ greetings from Germany
Greetings from USA
The true ❤
George Michael the best for ever ❤😢
Die ganze Welt hat und Trauert immer noch über diese Jahundert Stimme. Mr. George Michael. 🇹🇷🇬🇷 TUNAY ZONE MUSIC
I was never a fan of George Michael. But i did like the way he sang a ballad. This is a great rendition of the classic stevie wonder song.R.I.P. George Miichael.
Everyone's regret in life is not appreciating this man. Myself included
BEST COVER EVER. SURELY STEVIE WOULD AGREE. I MISS GEORGE. A LOT AND OFTEN.
Incomparable timbre of the voice. Talented, troubled, taunted. But above all, brilliance among mediocrity and nothingness.
Merrin Buchan fair play great words
The truth spoken
Merrin Buchan wonderfully put. Thank you for your beautiful comment.
Its 2021 and GM is still the G.O.A.T. Rest in peace George Michael.
Amen
miss his music so much 😥
no english person calls another a GOAT
@@MARSBELLA1 it means Greatest Of All Time. G.O.A.T, not goat. 😂.
This is a masterpiece. We all should take this into our hearts! Just magnificent!
RIP, G.M.
He actually did Stevie songs frequently and sang WITH him a few times.
Vocal perfection.
This is still one of my top 10 covers of all time from one of the best voices of all time.
We haven't gone now that you're gone!! I love you George!! ❤️❤️
The power of this song ...
I really love This Artist.
I'm speechless and full of tears! I've listened to this this 100 times and I am as affected as if I am hearing it for the first time! Mad love for this beautiful genius.
song is surreal now. much heavier than before
Phillip Smith I agree devastating
I'd be honored if some GM fans would view my acoustic piano & vocal cover (live, no autotune) of PRAYING FOR TIME on my channel in tribute to George. As famous as he was, our man hasn't gotten his due for all the contributions he made to modern music as a vocalist, songwriter and producer. But eventually he will get his due. THANK YOU GEORGE. WE LOVE YOU.
💯🙏🏻
I'm still so heartbroken by his death
Melissa Ann
moi aussi, je ne parviens pas à accepter sa disparition, sa voix est si magnifique, tellement sincère. ..
Chill inducing, spell binding. It's like you could feel his pain in his singing. Even though this is a Stevie Wonder song, he makes it seem like his own and it fits in so incredibly well with the LWP album. One of my favorite GM songs.
Grew up listening to all George Michaels albums and gonna miss him so much. Rest in peace George Michael.
Perfection. George Michael.
2020 anyone?
Grateful for this one.
I love this man’s voice. So many great songs while I was growing up. Sleep in peace sir.
The best rendition of any Steevie Wonder song that I've ever heard. George Micheal (Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou) was truly a gifted vocalist. Join the greats in the pantheon of music my friend.
Let us all honour George,
by making this piece of art go viral ...
masterpiece, perfection, emotional climax
Greatest singer of all time. Period.
Takes greatness and turns it to perfection.
George I miss you!!!!
It don’t get no better than Stevie and George ❤️❤️
So incredibly beautiful.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
RIP George, there's no man that will have the kind of beautiful voice you have. 🥃❤
No other voice can be so powerful and so beautiful at the same time. No one can compare. Ever.
Rightly said. He became a ray of light after leaving this world...not fair
Angelic voice. R.I.P. GM.
My word. This song. From 4:03 it just completely blows me away. What a monument
Unreal. Unstoppable. Incredible voice and rendition of this masterpiece. Wow....
