    • @willpulford8893

She voted AGAINST an amendment, which if passed, would have killed the govt bill to introduce protections for children. The amendment failed, and so the bill was not stopped in its tracks.
The bill now proceeds to the next step, a second reading. Then there will be further debates and amendments tabled and voted on, and if it passes it then goes to the house of lords.
It's a tiresomely slow process for bills to become law, although being slow also allows for necessary checks and balances to prevent bad laws from being passed.
The tories and other opposition parties wanted this bill stopped, they say so that there can be another inquiry (even though the amendment proposed yesterday wouldn't actually have started an inquiry - it just would've stopped the bill)
They wanted the government to do nothing today, so that there could be a debate about perhaps passing a different law, which could then start another inquiry, which at best could allow for the introduction of safety measures (that have been reccomended for several years now), in a couple more years time

You know why? The experts said there wasn't need for further inquiries and instead they wanted those 20 steps implemented that the Tories ignored for years. There have been multiple inquiries. They have all the details they need. They now want to enact changes but cannot because the Tories pushed for more inquiries delaying even more justice. This scandal is so old because it's been inquiries and then years of Tories ignoring it or saying it's a waste of money (Spaffing it up the wall in Boris Johnson's words. )

The last report was about abuse against children as a whole and not comprehensive enough in regards to the grooming gangs. We still don't know how many victims of the grooming gangs there are, there were 1400 in Rotherham (reported, most survivors don't come out). That means that over all of the towns and cities there could be upwards of 100,000 victims, and thousands of perpetrators. And who covered it up? This is another question which can only be answered with another inquiry, and if we want to stop these grooming gangs permanently then we have to lock up the ppl who had authority and covered it up.

She is talking about violence against women, and she refuses to talk about the single biggest case of sexual assault against women in British history, which is still ongoing. Who is going to stand up for the survivors of the pakistani grooming gangs? In Rotherham alone there were 1400 victims, and we know most rape victims don't tell anyone what happened to them, so that number could be much greater. That means over the whole of the uk there could easily be up to, or more than, 100,000 victims. And who except the right wing is standing up for the victims? Where are the protests and campaigns from feminists and people on the left to stand against the grooming gangs? Does anyone care about this?
