That is certainly not how the local nail bar removes mine 😳 soak for a minute then file it off 🙈 Christ on a bike, I had no idea it could be done more gently.
I’ll be finding someone else to do it from now on

Shellac is less than $20 a bottle if you do it yourself you cant charge more since people are now learning how to do there nails at home

That's why some companies do not sell shellac unless you have done a professional manicure course

Different brands different prices. Plus you have to consider the person doing the service. To high a price for you learn it at home.

can't compare between a home job and a pro job and they have rents to pay and hence we pay for that service!

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have recently gotten into nail art stamping. It seems that the nail art youtube gurus use shellac to do their nail art on (correcting mistakes on regular nail polish can be quite time consuming, as I am finding out!). I am considering purchasing an led lamp to do my own shellac manicures at home so this was very useful. I checked out your website but see that you don't sell to the public. I'll have to figure out a place to buy a lamp and some CND polishes.

Edit: I forgot to mention the file they use is like something they bought from Home Depot for construction! It is super course and they don’t shy away from filing aggressively. Thank you for the video… super informative.

Very interesting video. Since shellac last up to two weeks, new nail growth occurs. Do you apply the fill to the new exposed nail or do you have to remove and start the whole process again?

Do you not need to buff off the shine before removal? I’ve seen this done so as to “break” the shiny seal to help the acetone soaks in faster.

I notice there was no filing of the nail bed. I hate going to salons because of the excess filing during shellac removal and then again prior to shellac application. I start to pull my hand away because I cannot take all that filing! My last 4 visits have been to a different salon each time because they all do it. When I object, they say “don’t worry, shellac won’t stick without filing!”

Despite purchasing from sweetsquared (reputable supplier) my CND Shellac is not this thin in consistency. Also, half way down the bottle the product becomes very ‘ claggy’ and not very usable. Is there a product available to thin the polish down please.

  • @Jiggalicious27

Dont you have to use cnd prime before adding 1st layer of color? And shouldnt you also etch the surface of nail so polish clinga to it?

Lincensed Nail Professional and CND Master....Short answers...No and No!
*You can certainly do both but why? Unnecessary. Read!
Part 1 - CND primer (or any primer) is not necessary. The base serves in two capacities. 1) Protects the nails from discoloration of color polishes and 2) Provides adhesion, by anchoring the color polish to the nail itself!
Part 2 - Etching is not necessary nor recommended and can be damaging to the nails (especially if not done properly). (Etching is often a practice seen at local Asian hood nail salons...no shade, prejudice, or racism...just facts as to what I have seen!) However, if you have completed a quick nail prep/mani then you should end up with clean, buffed and shaped nails ready for Shellac or whatever service! Also, Shellac is not hard like acrylic, where as “etching” may show through on finished job. You want a super sleek and flawless set!
My Shellac sets usually last me about a month!
Tip: IF I am going to do acrylic or hard gels, then I “etch” safely with a hand nail file (100 grit)...not electric....and only lightly a round the cuticle, a couple of times. My clients NEVER experience lifting!
Less product and less manipulation = healthier nails. Hope this helps!

4 years late on this reply,.... Shellac is not just gel. its a gel hybrid. it contains/uses solvents as well as acrylates to bond to the nail plate. Its much thinner than a pure gel and hence why it removes much easier

Good evening, I really need help. I made shellac or creative play at my business since a few years. The outfit was good for some people (2-3 weeks) Some other people ca not hold at all! On the other hand, since I changed my uv lamp for silkline, nothing is okay. It's been 1 year that I have the silkline and nothing to do, shellac and creative play, all the varnish easily raised. I'm desperate. I have a lot of clients for a few months now. My question is, does it really take a specific lamp for the shellac to hold up? (2 weeks)
