Throw him/the kid a hundred bucks and you're still ahead and actually feel good about the exchange. This had that "feels bad man" vibe for what should've been a joyous one.
@@TideWalker45 Well, only he knows 🙂. But the point is, and I don't have a pony in this race, he is spending the money. Nothing wrong with asking for a clean flip. 2 out 3 would have worked. Pricing it in the middle also. Not a huge amount we're talking about.

Looking at the sea of mostly old guys, and really REALLY old guys at this show for the majority, I wonder where vintage card collecting is heading. Let's face it ... it was all white guys. That's where the money comes from that drives this hobby. And with kids not really getting into sports nowadays, and by that I mean white kids, where will the connection be between sports and collecting cards in the future ? I don't see the hobby going away, but I also don't see enough new money coming in the hobby to keep supporting the continued rise of all the vintage prices, or all prices across the board, except with what is / will be happening with the ultra modern. I'm wondering if we're at the peak of the hobby.
My question is why are these cards so expensive? I was watching another video of this same card show and there were stacks upon stacks of Babe Ruth, Mantle, Cobb, etc. Prices were 10k and north of that for low grade slabs. I don't know about you, but there's no way I could afford 10k for a baseball card. You're right about who's driving the hobby and the same rich white guys are pricing us out of the hobby. I hope the bubble bursts soon.
@@LarryDickmann Well, I wasn't trying to say it was intentional. There will always be people with money that can afford things. I can't throw stones. And I really don't think, unless incredible circumstances occur, that cards of Ruth, Mantle, Cobb, etc will crash. Maybe a dip off their peaks. Maybe a good size dip. But nobody will be giving them away. I'm referring more of will there be top money for guys like Kaline, Mathews, guys of this statue. The hobby as a whole is HUGE. Too much for all of it to get feed. Some will always go up, but will some not see the the interest they once saw. I have a vote in this matter, as I'm turning 52. Forecasting is my line of expertise, and I'm a collector, but I see the winds and tides changing. Most don't, that's why the world always seems to be caught off guard.
that coin flip made me sick. sorry mike but that was flat out wrong. you lost. and then you lost again on the second flip but in another way all together.
i should have kept my opinion in me. it was wrong of me to say it was wrong of you. and presumptuous to believe any two people have a moral compass that points in the same direction, let alone true north.. i respect you mike, been watching your show with my wife for along time, and know are a good man, and conscience driven, + i am lucky to know you-without knowing you. be well friend. and enjoy the jackie-i cant think of a more deserving collector of such a fine piece of cardboard-and it really is a fine piece.
You should have given the coin flipper $100. Everyone would have been happy.
The coin flip debacle had me cringing so hard i couldnt watch anymore lol. But looks like a fun gathering for the old vintage youtubers.
Not sure why that first flip didn't count...I would have at least given the dealer $4300 after.
Yeah that was a bit uncomfortable for me. I thought the only solution was best 2 outta 3...
Agreed. Kinda pathetic

It looked like the kid intended to catch it but missed it. An adult should have flipped the coin if it meant that much.
Wait, why did you demand another flip??
Because it wasn't a smooth flip. It was touched mid-air, and it could have possibly had an affect on the outcome.
@@CVMGAMso had it landed in Mike’s favor he would have said “flip again”?? 🤔

Little jealous. Enjoy the show
Looking at Ebay, your 49 Jackie Robinson looks undergraded. Stellar centering and color. What do you think? Are there creases?
No creases. We all think it is undergraded
You overpaid, but you’re still my friend
I picked up 1947 Bond Bread J. Rob SGC 5 for 6,200.....hope I didn't overpay
Isn’t VCP over 42 ?

@@breakingmania8927 The Exhibit, Round corners......think I overpaid a little
You lost the coin flip bro
Pretty much.
Overpaid for the jackie but you really never overpay for that beauty
VCP is over 42. He did ok
If vintage doesn't come to me, I don't go to it. Mike cry? Never.
I assume the show was week on vintage autographs again this year? See you hopefully your next trip to Ohio
Can’t let the person with the coin also call the coin 😂
Kid cost him 400 bucks. Should have stayed in school lol, great Jackie card Mike.
cliffhanger
