Drago: "I must break you." And he did.
In Rocky 5, the beginning shows he was broken. He was shaking, every time when he saw the look on Drago's face whenever he took down Creed. His best friend. It's something that'll haunt him
So why isn't drago and Rocky friends? Yeah he killed Creed 1 but that wasn't his fault.
Rocky sounds almost like Mickey in Rocky 3: “No he ain't just another fighter. This guy is a wrecking machine and he's hungry! Hell, you ain't been hungry since you won that belt!”

Yeah Rocky now kinda does sound like Mick that time ago in ROCKY lll
One of my favourite lines out of all the rocky movies
"He ain't gonna kiss ya, he gonna kill ya."😂😂😂 Loved that line too.
This scene is an absolute masterpiece. Poor young Creed has no idea the trauma that Rocky lives with and he's making him relive it. He watched this dude kill his best friend and now he wants him to watch his friends son be killed by the son of that man who took the boy's father. You can't even comprehend what Rocky is feeling.
Rocky wants to protect Apollo's son by getting in the ring again the son of the monster that not only defeated but also killed his father.
Drago family is no joke. They WILL break you. It's not a game and Creed is letting his ego eat away
Exactly!! I vividly remember at the beginning of Rocky 5 of him sitting in that lockeroom and couldn't stop his hands from shaking. Yeah it felt good beating Drago, for about 20 mins. "That man broke things in me that aint neva been fixed!!!" And Rocky shudda been retired anyway because of his eye. Compelling scene this is!!!!

This scene gave me goosebumps when Rocky was talking about his back story in Rocky IV
Me to. Its like he never talked about that horrific day till now. Its like he tried his best to try not to think about it.😪
Thats what made the film a masterpiece
"That's the same thing your father said and he died right here in my hands"
"So that's it, you walking out on me? At least you don't have to worry about throwing in the towel this time"
I felt that Rocky 😥
Donnie trying to provoke Rocky into training him again was just... well, a youngster not knowing what he was going into. He wants to risk death? Fine. But let him not try to play on Rocky's guilt into following his foolishness.
Briseur De Lance i’m pretty sure at that point rocky would feel guilty anyway even if he didn’t train him for this fight he probably would have been”i should have stop him in some way"or "maybe if i trained him harder he wouldn’t be dead”
That was a cheap shot by Adonis.
Yeah that was cold. 😞
@@Briselance He probably felt guilty not training him regardless
Great chemistry between these two
Rocky not only fought Drago to avenge Apollo, but also to seek forgiveness for having been indirectly responsible for his friend's death by not fighting that night and throwing in the towel. His reason was more solid and authentic than Adonis's at the time. Adonis was only looking to prove he is the best. *Rocky was right. It was different.*
I don't think it was only because of that; he got angry when Ivan Drago mentioned his father so he does have a very personal motive. Donnie still wants to avenge his father like Rocky did but like you said Rocky also did out of personal guilt that Donnie just can't have.
"That guy broke things on me that ain't never been fixed"

@@larrybarker1674 Nah. I knew it was a Rocky V reference. Just didn't bring it up earlier for some reason. Lol

We don't talk about Rocky V....
To be fair, rocky probably had brain damage before the drago fight, but going 15 rounds with Russian superman damn sure made it worse
“That’s the same thing your father said, and he died right here in my hands.”
Best line in the whole movie IMO. I remember the first trailer and that line gave me goosebumps.
Like father like son he gonna wanna fight like his dad
Same dude, reason I'm watching this now 😢
Reminds me when adrian told rocky "YOU CANT WIN"...just powerful
Rocky’s grown wiser since then
I love how rocky not only turned to Mick, but he also is resembling Adrian. He’s trying to stop Creed from hurting himself like Drago hurt him. Adrian was in the same spot and it’s this moment he realizes Adrian was trying to help him.
It's a lot like Rocky V where Rocky tried to warn Tommy not to sign and go with George Washington Duke. It's the scene where Tommy and Rocky are talking outside of Paulies house, and Tommy told Rocky he is going to sign with Duke because he's tired of Rocky (as his manager/trainer) taking too long to get him a title shot. Rocky tells Tommy that Duke is only using him to make money and to turn them against each other and Duke doesnt care about him as it will only hurt Tommy in the end if he goes with Duke. Tommy leaves telling Rocky he can either train him or not train him but either way he's signing with Duke. Creed here tells Rocky either way he's going to fight and Rocky like with Tommy lets him go at it on his own. Both learned a hard lesson from it, but Creed had the heart and understanding to realize why Rocky was right and rebound from it where as Tommy...well we know what happened to Tommy.

Out of all the fights Rocky has had, Drago was the one opponent he wished he didn’t have to face.
Adonis has to understand that Rocky is harboring alot of guilt and regret for letting that fight go on with Apollo and Ivan. Remember, Apollo didn't want Rocky to throw in that towel, and because Rocky let Apollo have his way he died. Now Rocky is faced with the same exact situation 30+ years later with Adonis and Viktor. It's not an easy choice to make whether Rocky would've stood with Adonis or not... ultimately Rocky made the right choice and let Adonis be his own man, stand on his own, and make the decision....
To be fair, both of their cases are relatable. That's one of the biggest reasons why people love the Rocky/Creed movies so much. You can literally connect to any of the characters within the movies.
It's not Rocky's fault tho. A warrior wants to die on his shield. He doesn't want to die while herding the sheep or milking the cows. He wants to lay his life down when he gives it his all
@@snakevenom4954 I agree 100%
Even if Rocky had thrown in the towel, it wouldn't have stopped Drago from killing Apollo. Not even the ref could stop Drago since he pushed him out of the way.

Love this scene, exactly how Micky was when Rocky wanted to fight Clubber Lang, and Micky wanted to protect Rocky. Crazy how it came full circle how Rocky trying protect Adonis.
Brilliant Scriptwriting
The Rocky saga was just as much a spiritual introspective movie as it was about boxing and about one man and one fight that changed his life, and the remaining fights that changed everything about him.
Beautiful, never thought of it like that
Not stopping Apollo’s death has always been his biggest regret and nobody has ever scared Rocky like Drago. It’s a powerful scene for sure.
“He ain’t got nothing to lose that’s what makes him dangerous”
I never understood that saying until I saw it with my own eyes how hungry a man can be to get what he needs to survive versus someone who already have.
Makes the blood run cold, doesn't it?
1:39 Rocky learned his lesson with Clubber Lang
"Because you can't win Rock! This guy will kill ya to death inside of three rounds!! He ain't just another fighter, this guy is a wrecking machine, and he's hungry! Hell, you haven't been hungry since you want that champ belt! They were all good fighters but they wasn't killers like this guy! He'll knock you into tomorrow, Rock!"
Rocky definitely sees a lot of Apollo in Adonis, he has his determination and will. But he also has his stubbornness and ego, and it was those very same things that led to his death. He loves Adonis like a son, and he doesn’t wanna see him make the same mistakes his father made.

Hey gotta defend against the colonizers....
Ever since Adrian died he has never been the same. The acting is truly amazing.
Don't forget about Mickey.
I loved Creed III, but it really was missing the serious heart of Rocky . Rocky is an insnanely complex, beautiful, and immensely relatable character. Only Sly can bring that amazing depth to him.
That guy broke things in me that ain’t never been fixed - I mean, I had an entire *sequel* that was basically retconned away because of that fight.
Actually, the case is that he never got a second opinion, plus there's the possibility that the requirements changed down the road.
Thank God
@@Sal_Sal27 Yeah, Stallone said that today, Rocky's condition would be identified as a severe concussion, normal among boxers.
I think he doesn't only mean physically, but also mentally as well. Seeing Drago kill Apollo Creed probably changed Rocky forever, it affected his relationships and he has to live with the guilt for the rest of his life.
I love the relationship between these 2. Rocky Is like the father Adonis never had and he's more like a son than his biological one is. You can see how much they care about each other. It's more than just a teacher/student bond. It's a beautiful thing.
"At least you ain't gotta worry about throwing in the towel this time."
And I thought punches knocked people out! 😲
They took the most outrageous movie of the series, and made it into a very deep, serious story. Crazy to think.
1:43 after he said that, it was like Rocky was looking at a personified version of Apollo’s pride. The very pride that got him killed.
Surprised him too. Made Rocky back up for a minute
Sly acting so good at this moment, his backing up and looking at Adonis face is more like he see Apollo's pride at that moment, which made him killed.
This should have been Stallone's Oscars' moment.
That it went to Mark Ryland for a role I can't even remember...

Poor Rocky, getting caught up again in a feud between two families.
Too bad cause he's part of one of the families because Apollo was his best friend, the guy bought him out of retirement.

Yeah and when Donnie said “well at least you don’t have to throw the towel this time” I’m sure rocky was very tempted to go back and train Donnie but he couldn’t watch, not again...
“We don’t need that kind of man in our life”

Pay attention to 1:13 - when Rocky tells Adonis about how Drago broke things in him, Adonis looks at Rocky with a hint of fear and doubt, wondering if Viktor will do the same to him.

I think Rocky will pass away in Creed 3 and I hope it's a great scene because this is the house that Balboa built baby!
@Stugots666x I hear they are doing Rocky 7 now and Sly might not even be in Creed 3. I think it would be perfect for Adonis in the movie to try and come back after Rocky's death. I think it's good for drama and will definitely pay tribute to Rocky 3 like the other 2 Creed's have paid tribute to Rocky and Rocky II.
b24jackson Don’t need a Creed 3. Don’t need to see him fight Clubber Lang’s son. This was the right way to end the franchise. Do what the terminator franchise should’ve done. End it on a high note

Is it wrong that I don't want him to die ?
Adonis is too young and brash to understand that Rocky is still living with the guilt every day, knowing if he could have thrown in the towel, and losing his friend by doing so. It was a no win situation for Rocky.
Yeah. If Rocky did throw in the towel, Apollo never would've forgiven him. Most fighters don't want to quit. They want to fall on their sword.
Reminds me of rocky 3 Mickey and rocky scene
Yep just like his father years ago when he made up his mind to fight Drago and there was no stopping him
This movie was great.
The fights werent as dramatic as I thought they would be. Didn't seem to carry weight like how Rocky 4 fights were it's hard to explain why, but maybe it has to do with us knowing how the fights would turn out ? Drago wins the first one and then Creed wins? It's like we all expected that to happen, but how it happened did t have alot of weight.
Weren't as dramatic? The fights were bullshit. More like mma without the kicking.. Its almost all headshots. Too sensatiinalist.
Really love how rocky in this scene basically had nothing at old age just like how Mickey was.
When I did get in that ring, that guy broke things in me that ain't never been fixed! Depiction of rocky acknowledging drago's strength when they fought each other in 1985 rings a lot of bells n brings back glorious memories from the 80s!
*Rocky:* He's dangerous!
*Adonis:* I'm dangerous!
*Me:* Yeah, you're dangerous but Viktor Drago is VERY dangerous

Who won
What's cool about that exchange is that it's a nice callback to a near identical exchange between Tony and Apollo in Rocky II during the match.
Rocky had suffered brain damage immediately after the Drago fight. He had intense headaches and hallucinations. He wasn't sure he was gonna get better.
It took Rocky YEARS to recover from the Drago fight. And he never recovered fully. We still don't know if Rocky got rid of the headaches and hallucinations.
He takes medications to retain his wisdom.
Michael B Jordon is a sick actor
You could just tell at the beginning that Rocky knew exactly what Adonis wanted to talk about based on that look
It's not the fact that he doesn't think he can win the fight, but Rocky is trying to tell Donnie it is not worth the cost even if he wins. That is just... wow.
That's deep.
Really apt, but maybe could have said it better though, cause i feel that if Donnie had truly believed he could win he would have
“He broke things in me that ain’t never been fixed”
That’s what happens when you block hits with your head
These movies are the PERFECT example of how to continue a masterpiece of a film series and do it justice.
“At least you don’t have to worry about throwing in the towel”
Damn Donnie low blow
Every time I see this, it makes me feel like Adonis was stubborn by not listening to Rocky, that's why he lost the 1st fight. Rocky sounds like Mickey in Rocky 3. Difference is I think Adonis is sounding a lot like Apollo in Rocky 2 and Rocky 4.
Rocky wasn't lying... Drago was the last time Rocky stepped in the ring for 20 years..

“You don’t think I can beat him”. Same thing Apollo said to Duke. “Man I won but I didn’t beat him”!

Rocky became Mickey.
I think there was a line in Rocky 1 where apollos trainer told Apollo that Rocky was dangerous and Apollo snapped back the same way Donny did "I'm dangerous!" Got chills.
That was Rocky 2
Hehe 😅Rocky was once young and stupid like creed , he knew the answer before creed gave it
*he was raised in hate u werent* best take heed to that. That boi different
Pride over logic, Adonis just didn't get why rocky couldn't do it
Creed is dangerous because he took all those hits and still came in one piece
This is probably MBJ's best role to date. Him and Sly played off each other so well.
Did you watch creed 3
Rocky explained to his student that not to fight Ivan's son Viktor Drago because it was gonna happen to his dad Apollo in Rocky 4, when Apollo Creed died in Rocky's hand
The Rocky movies do callbacks the way they should be done: Subtle, that you might not pick up on the first time through. Contrast that with Predators or Force Awakens which had giant neon signs almost every scene which read: "THIS IS SUPPOSED TO REMIND YOU OF THE FIRST MOVIE"
These performances by Sylvester are oscar worthy!
When a fighter has something to lose, he's dangerous!
Rocky told what happen to Apollo and Rock Adonis didn't care he wanted fight
But you don’t think I can beat him!! Does words hurt specially to a fighter when talking to his mentor, Adonis wanted his blessing and needed it more than anything else.

Actually, he has one thing to lose. Only one, his father's love and respect for him. Thats what makes him dangerous.
Something tells me Donny has a bit of Apollo's stubbornness and pride in him. In this scene, Rocky was basically telling Donny "you can't win" without actually saying it.
