Predicting that point of failure is often impossible so one system like this could have something like a mars rover last 80 years instead of 8 years with only a few kilos of welding wire sent with it from Earth. The issue is one system like this would only become worth it if it maintained multiple systems or rovers in an accessible area. Something plausible down the line but not currently. The truth is there will be machines like this on other planets before there are mining and refining facilities for metal, and these systems already being present is one of the reasons those mines will be built

LOL There is only 4 seconds of animation! 0:14 - 0:17 It is easy to see that everything is real. This is all the more true if you have welded or worked with robots to ANY degree. It is easily possible. The hardest thing about the process is programming the robot to move properly in patterns without bumping into another part of the build, overheating the part, or outright melting the part by welding on 1 place too long.
Perhaps a slight, similar charge on nozzle and powder to keep the powder away from the inside wall, and an opposite charge on the workpiece to attract the stream of powder.
welding gas amps /volts/ travel speed how fast metal is fed to work/also type of gas/ pressure of gas all this comes into play here but don't let this fool you the damd nozzle will get clogged up after some time of use /either clean or change that's all
